Is it possible to look in the direction of colliding trains and not spare a gasp, or a frozen look of terror as the sound of scraping metal tore through the air? Cecil hadn’t partaken in any of the studies related to this phenomenon, if late evenings spent staring - absently, emptily, bordering consciousness yet never toppling over the edge - a hole into his ceiling weren’t taken into account. 

“Well,” Nothing could prevent his deflation, save a lopsided smile and a dismissive gesture, “Well!” It kept getting worse with each reiteration - temporarily decommissioned, he clung to the one thing he could: ground, and leeway. 

“It’s hard to miss! Its mandibles, as angular as they are ferocious, are of an impressive height! They would formerly graze the clouds - they still would to this day, if it hadn’t been for one especially determined lightning bolt. I’m sure you read about it,” A glance over his shoulder, prideful, “It was quite the story! No citizen could provide an accurate account of the night, nor was any insurance taken out as a result,”

A look upward, a hint of aluminum -

“Ah! See? Unfortunately, it still has a few… reminders.”

It wasn’t difficult to drown out the various ramblings and repetitions of Cecil, if anything Laila considered herself a master in the art of ignoring. T He seemed to indulge himself more than others in conversation--though she wasn’t sure if such an interaction could suffer that definition. “You ever considered writin’ a book?” A hypothetical that Laila was sure would receive a serious answer. Gaze followed his, unsure of what exactly she was looking at. “What reminders?”
