Lately I've been thinking about how fandom headcanons can sometimes feel almost as "real" as canon when they're repeated often enough.

There are a few characters I enjoy selfshipping with, but because certain interpretations of them are so common in fandom spaces, I sometimes find myself wondering if I should even bother making content for my own version of the character. Not because anyone owns the character or because I think headcanons are bad, but because it can feel a little isolating when you rarely see anyone else with a similar interpretation.

Does anyone else experience this? How do you balance enjoying your own version of a character while being surrounded by a very different fandom consensus?

I don't have experience, but I had seen about it while researching

Ok so what I'm talking about, I ship Monika x Senpai which is a ship that got that "siblings headcanon" and turn into a whole thing just because someone thought it was canon.

I wasn't there when it happens so I never experience it

As you said that rarely see anyone with similar interpretation and if you should bother making content for your own version of the character

I'm not sure if it's the same in my case, but I feel that. Like the ship I mentioned, I worries about my own Headcanons, cause what do you mean they are in a healthy relationship yet still toxic?

Like mind you Monika x Senpai was very hated because of one misinformation headcanon

And plus it was very niche, it was popular for a short time and ended ( I wasn't there when It happened so idk)

Especially when you used to be in either both /one of the fandom, used to be a shipper, etc.

Just for years later, found a shipblog of that ship

If anyone ever talk to me and mentioned the whole ship thingy, at least say your thoughts on me (⁠｡—﹏—｡)
