The Goldenlake Triathlon is about to start - come join us! What The Goldenlake Triathlon is a fanfiction challenge in which authors attempt to complete a triathlon of three fic events for their chosen character, with options of summer and/or winter events. THIS. This is exactly what I’m talking about. And that’s not even accounting for the minor characters!! Like, if Alanna wasn’t banging Liam in the last book, she would have been all over Thayet. Or Buri for that matter! Two short, fiery women who give no fucks and take no shit? (Aka my new favorite ship) And Delia would 100% have gone after Alanna regardless of gender - hell, she probably would have pushed harder.

Slight blog overhaul ahead

Hey all, just wanted to announce that we’re gonna be doing some blog maintenance pretty soon! Nothing too serious so don’t get worried (we’re not going to be changing the focus of this blog or anything like that) but we’re going to be modifying the content we host. 

To put it simply, we’re no longer comfortable hosting content pairing characters under 18 with characters over 18 (ex: Aly/Junai used to be featured a lot here) , content pairing foster siblings together (ex: our current blog icon as of today, 8/8/19, is Daja/Sandry), or explicit content featuring characters under 18. We are also no longer comfortable hosting content that pairs characters who meet when one is an adult and the other is a very young child, even if as adults they grow to see each other as equals (ex: Alanna/Kel - they technically do not come face to face until Kel is an adult knight but Alanna is certainly aware of Kel from the start of her training and watches over her/gives her gifts for years before they meet). Because of this we will be removing ALL submissions, posts, reblogs, and fic recs that fit these descriptions.

Expect all of that to be cleaned out within the next week, and thank you for sticking around despite the very infrequent upload schedule we keep!

It’s (almost) our tenth birthday (we know, we know, we can’t believe it either)! To celebrate, we’re having a throwback event where you can write for one of the many previous themed events hosted by Fief Goldenlake.

Do you picture Briar as a fairytale prince? Try it out in the Fairytales Challenge! Have a plot bunny where George is a famous Vegas magician trying to win the heart of his lady-love Alanna? Check out the Harlequin Romance Challenge! Or maybe you’re feeling spooky, and want to write a fic where Kel and her friends battle ghosts as well as bandits. In that case, consider Supernatural Week.

Whatever theme you are in the mood for, you can find it in the archive of Goldenlake Themed Events. For this event, you can write for any of our previous themed events, except 100 Words Week, Twitter Weekend, or Wyldon Winter (sorry, guys, it’s just not winter).

Guidelines for each event have been linked below. Original word limits (if any) do not apply for this event, though there is a blanket 100 word minimum rule. Please use the event’s original tag (e.g. ‘AU Week’ for Alternate Universe Week, or ‘RRW’ for Role Reversal Week). All tags are listed below.

This month’s Malorie’s Peak Prompt is: The Road Not Taken.

We often encounter our characters at a turning point in their lives. What if Alanna had gone to the convent? What if Daine hadn’t met Onua? What if Kel had refused to be put on probation? Then, there are the paths the story might have gone down. What if Yolane’s rebellion had succeeded? What if Roger had beaten Alanna in their duel? What if Sarai had become queen? Of course, this poem is actually Robert Frost teasing an indecisive friend, so feel free to take the prompt as literally as you wish!

Malorie’s Peak Prompt #134: Disappointment

This month’s MPP is disappointment. The disappointment of unrequited love. The disappointment of hopes and dreams dashed. When things don’t go as you hoped they would. The disappointment of an opportunity lost. Being let down by someone you admired or respected. When someone you expect better from behaves poorly. Disappointment with yourself. When expectation fails to match reality. How do our characters deal with disappointment? Do they wallow in self-pity? Dust themselves off and try again? Take it personally?
