When he suggested this, he was sure Giovanni would say no. Here they were, laying on a plastic sheet to protect his workshop’s floor. He’s been at this for over an hour, carefully painting Giovanni wherever and however he wants. He’s let Giovanni done the same. There hasn’t been much spoken between them this night, but they’ve crossed that line past friendship. Donatello never believed that he’d be here, getting the chance to express not just his art to the writer, but his heart and soul as well. “Everything led back to you.” He repeats, lifting the paintbrush and creates a heart where Giovanni’s heart is. He shivers at the attention to his own chest; this was a side of Giovanni he only dreamed about. The selfish writer taking what he wants and the artist would willingly give it to him. He’s loved the man for nearly a couple of years now and hid his affections. He doesn’t have to hide anymore. “Everything led back to you.”
@patronodellearti { continued from x )
Seeing that look in his eyes, Donatello’s mouth shuts quickly. Perhaps he was wrong. He’s never seen Giovanni date anyone in the time he’s known the writer. He assumed he hadn’t found the right woman. Maybe it wasn’t women that Giovanni was into. But, he’s never shown any interest in men either, so maybe Donatello was wrong about the whole picture. He shouldn’t be sticking his nose where it didn’t belong, but to hear Giovanni said he did better alone? That got the artist’s hand to stop mid-sketch, feeling his pencil scratch against the paper. He’ll beat himself up for that later. He looks at Giovanni, a longing in his eyes to heal this hurt that the writer carries. “Everybody needs someone. It does no good to be alone, buried with your own thoughts and pain.”
The moment her honey hues cast their first glance at the banker, her breath was taken away and her heart skipping a beat. Her ladies didn’t lie about his attractiveness. The fact that he bowed before her and kissed her hand was enough to make her blush. A soft, shy smile tugged at her full rosy lips and she returned a deep curtsy. Allowing both her hands to take his as she still held it, she kissed his ring and pressed her forehead to his knuckles. This was an Ottoman tradition showing respect for a superior. The lord, by gender alone, outranked her.
“Your grace, the honor is all mine. Thank you for welcoming me into your villa. From what little I have seen so far, it is utmost paradise.” Her melodious soprano ranged voice replied.
As he looks over at the princess, she was beautiful. His brother was not wrong in his words, yet he knows that the banker cannot ruin things. This trade route was important for both kingdoms and he doesn’t wish to do anything impolite. He smiled softly when he seems her own shy smile. He’s relieved that the kiss to the hand didn’t offend her. Feeling her hands in his and as she did an Ottoman tradition that he had read about, he gently does give her hands a squeeze. He knows this was a sign of respect and he’ll have to make sure that he gives her the same respect in return.
“We are all at your disposal, my lady. I hope that you will be able to see more of our city and enjoy your time here. I look forward to showing what Florence has to offer.”
BAMBINO * ( @tangledsperanze )
Lorenzo always wanted to come into the study, but never did unless it was for rare occasions. Even from a young age he knew that this was his nonno’s and there were many things that he shouldn’t touch. In his own way, Lorenzo never wants to lose the memories of his nonno by placing his hands on the many volumes that the study holds. Yet, he knows that Cosimo’s memories will not be tied to books, it will be tied to his character and all that he’s done for Florence. He was glad that nonno didn’t come with them to Careggi, everything could have ended in tragedy and he’s thankful that his father only sustained an injury. Things could have been far more worse. He feels weak for expressing sadness over someone who has tried to kill his family. He knows he must be better than this.
Gone due to his own actions. He supposes that is the truth and his eyes never leaves the his nonno’s. But at his words that it was a planned attack, Lorenzo nods in agreement. He can’t doubt that it wasn’t an attack. “We found a gold coin, it bears the seal of the Pazzi. We think they might have been behind the attack on father.” Hearing that he had no choice, Lorenzo nods slowly, running a hand through his hair. It’s hard words to swallow, but it’s the truth. It was either his own life or someone else’s who tried to attack him. “Giuliano wants to take this to the Signoria and those in the Priori. But we can’t, we need more proof to prove they are the ones behind the attack.”
COSIMO HAD LEARNED A LONG TIME AGO NOT TO PUT HIS LOVE IN OBJECTS , but instead to place it within the ones who surrounded him , his family. For all his restrictions when it came to his study ; never could he foresee himself ever being angry at his children , or grandchildren for being curious about this room. HE HAS HIS RULES - he is no longer the head of this family but this room was sacred , it was a place of solitude , a place where had lived quite a bit of his life. STILL , never has he raised his voice when a grandchild has entered without permission , he has simply explained. This was Nonno’s room & so you must be respectful. IF THEY WISHED TO SIT THEY MUST TREAT EACH BOOK , each painting with respect. He listens , each word only causes the elder’s expression to darken. Is he surprised by the involvement of the Pazzi? Not at all , but he wonders how long they have been waiting for such a moment. Jacopo’s brother had been easier to deal with ; HAD SOUGHT TO UNITE THE FAMILIES WITH THE MARRIAGE BETWEEN GUGLIELMO & BIANCA. Jacopo had no such desires , he only sought their ruination. He leans forward. “You are right to be cautious bambino , as Giuliano is right to be angry. Sometimes anger clouds our judgement.” HE UNDERSTANDS GIULIANO’S WISHES , but Lorenzo is right. Caution must be taken here. “You cannot afford to accuse Jacopo without proof. We cannot afford to be reckless.” He hopes his nephew will take his advice , but again he has no power over him , nor does he want it. LORENZO IS HEAD OF THIS FAMILY , Cosimo trusts him to make the right decisions.
Lorenzo had often been curious as a kid, he was the one to always go where he shouldn’t, his mind constantly running. He probably spent more time in Cosimo’s study as a child than anywhere else. It was there that he formed his love of books, reading and of all the art that had filled the study. He’s always asked about Donatello, he knows the two men have been lifelong friends. Any book he touched was delicate, with the respect his Nonno would expect from Lorenzo. But he understood boundaries young, he didn’t enter unless he was given permission and he didn’t linger too long as to take time away from his Nonno’s alone time. He’s gained much of his wisdom and the way the world works from asking Cosimo questions.
He’s known since he could walk or speak the issues that Medici have had with the Pazzi. However, since he was young, he had always been close to Francesco. Until the day that had all changed, Jacopo had practically ripped his friend away from him and Lorenzo hadn’t been strong enough to stop him. He was only a child then, now he’s a man and too many years have gone by. That hope lingered to be friends still, he has to hang onto that hope and see what happens next. He understands Giuliano’s anger, he had the same type, but he buried it down with responsibility. He couldn’t go around accusing Jacopo with the attack. Not now, it would only backfire against the family. “He can be angry, but that anger must remain within these walls. I won’t be reckless Nonno. I will make sure that I have proof before I bring any of this to others.” It’s what his Nonno would have done and it is the advice that’s been given to him.
DONATELLO * ( @tangledsperanze )
Art has been the one comfort in a world that Donatello felt very much not a part of at times. He often feels as if he’s been born in the wrong time. He knows that Giovanni feels the same as him, they bonded over that and many other things. His colors, paintbrushes and all the canvas’s around him have always claimed his heart more than a person could. Well, expect for perhaps Giovanni. Donatello hasn’t dated anyone in a long time, he has one night stands. He knows he wishes to be good enough for someone like Giovanni, but Donnatello knows he’s not good enough. He’ll help distract the writer since he is modeling for him. He knows that Giovanni often has a lot of worries. Hearing the laugh, the artist raises an eyebrow, curious to see what he’s going to say.
“If no one have described you as a true beauty then they don’t know what beauty is.” Donatello countered. He knows that the man he’s sketching is the most beautiful man that he’s met. His soul aches every time they spend time together. He pulls his eyes back to the sketch. He must concentrate, otherwise he will mess things up. “I am honored that you have time for a humble artist.” Truly he does mean it, a Medici could spend his time anywhere, yet shares it with him.
THEY HAVE FOUND SOLACE IN ART IT WOULD SEEM ; Giovanni has been surrounded by it for most of his life. He lives in a Palazzo that is decorated with pieces from the Renaissance itself ; some that had belonged to Donatello’s ancestor. HE HAS FOUND HIMSELF DRAWN TO THESE IN PARTICULAR , although he did not know why. He shifts ever so slightly , fully aware the others eyes are on him. THIS GIVES GIOVANNI A THRILL HE DOESN’T WANT TO ADMIT. He loves the feel of the others warm brown eyes upon him. He flushes ever so slightly.
FOR A MOMENT THE WRITER IS SPEECHLESS , his stomach knots in an almost uncomfortable feeling. Compliments were one thing but when he was bare? his clothes upon the ground? GIOVANNI FEELS VULNERABLE - exposed and he is not sure he enjoys it. Still , a smile pulls upon his lips. “How could i not?.” An eyebrow arches at the other mans words. “You speak as if you are not talented Donatello.” A SCOFF LEAVES HIS LIPS. “I will always have time for you , i am surprised that you’ve not yet gotten bored of sketching me , it is not as if i change with each day is it?.”
He supposes he likes art as much as he does because art doesn’t betray a person. People betray people everyday and he wants nothing to do with that. He’s found a love of Giovanni’s home however; the Palazzo is decorated with beautiful creations from his ancestor. Looking at those creations a few times, Donatello felt that wave of being unworthy. The pieces were breathtaking and it took everything in Donatello not to burn some of his own sketches. Though, he knows he’d never be able to destroy the ones he’s created of Giovanni. He sees those dark eyes on him and Donatello has to swallow hard to force a blush to go away.
The silence almost feels unbearable and Donatello has to wonder if he’s said too much. He’s always been blunt and speaks the truth, but knowing this is a vulnerable situation, Donatello clams up. Besides, he’s being stupid and flirting with someone who isn’t even into men. He needs to pull back and be professional about this, unless he wants hired men who work for the Medici to come rough him up. His eyes stay focused onto his sketchbook, barely lifting a shoulder at Giovanni’s words. “It’s not about talent, it’s about finding one’s soul in their passions.” His hand stills for a moment, there is no way that Donatello could ever be bored sketching Giovanni. “I could never be bored. You do change from day to day. You wear different colors everyday, some days your hair may seem longer or shorter, or your face is more troubled than before. Everyone has subtle changes, Giovanni. You just have to know where to look.”
DONATELLO * ( @tangledsperanze )
Florence was always better for the wealthy, that is not who Donatello would be. Not that he couldn’t survive, he has. But he’s more likely to share his money to those who needed more than himself. Those that worked for him needed the coin for their own families and Donatello is more than willing to provide. He wonders if he will see Cosimo again when the banker leaves. Or perhaps he will find himself wandering back to Florence to visit him. Surely there will be times Cosimo might call upon him to create something. He doesn’t want things to end with just letters. Leaning into fingers against his cheek, his warm brown eyes stare up into cerulean orbs. “I will see you again Cosimo, I promise you.” He doesn’t want his dreamer to worry about them, about his past.
“Then I’ll always have to reassure you, so you can relax.” They are as close as two people could be, and Donatello wonders if this is what it means to find his soul? Because his feels his soul lifted when he’s around the other man. “I will continue to keep it that way.” If he had known what the future held for them both, he wonders if they would carry regrets. Everytime he wishes to say those three words, something stops him. Saying any declarations of love would make the departure all the harder. But this is what Cosimo needs and he shouldn’t be left with questions about his feelings. “Never forget, what you mean to me, Cosimo… I, I love you.”
FROM WHAT COSIMO HAS LEARNED , DONATELLO CUTS HIMSELF OFF FROM THE CITY THAT HAD HOMED HIM IN THE BEGINNING , why? Cosimo cannot be certain. There are still many things that he has yet to learn about this man and the banker is not yet comfortable enough to push. IT IS NOT AS SIMPLE AS SIMPLY ASKING. This , what blooms between the two is still very new ; Cosimo is has never ventured into such waters before. The artist leans into his touch and he smiles. THE WORDS HOLD WEIGHT , a promise whispered on the lips that he has kissed at least fifty times. Each kiss is precious , each touch. “I will hold you to that promise.” He speaks with conviction , his gaze is firm.
A laugh spills from Cosimo’s lips as he pulls the sheets up around them ; he hardly fears being walked in on. THE ARTISTS IN THIS WORKSHOP KNEW OF DONATELLO’S DESIRES - they were discreet and so Cosimo does not fear being found. He moves , pressing his forehead against the others for a moment. Until Rome , Cosimo’s soul had felt so lost , now he is found. EVEN IF THEY MUST TEAR THEMSELVES AWAY FROM ONE ANOTHER. He has an entire city to explore , yet all he wants is to remain between these sheets with him. “You…..you…” He has never lacked confidence but the banker is now stammering ; WORDS THAT HE CANNOT QUITE BELIEF , falling upon his ears. “I love you too.” Such words are hard for him , difficult but for the first time in his life , spoken in a romantic fashion , he manages them. Cosimo means them.
The artist has his reasons for abandoning the city that he was born and raised in until he left it for Rome. He doesn’t know if he’ll explain his feelings for why he struggles with the ideas of returning to Florence. Donatello keeps that distance from his past and no one knows much about him. He likes being a mystery to everyone, even to Cosimo. In their short time together, he does wish to show more of himself to the man who has captured his heart. Things between them were still knew and he doesn’t know if they will be able to stay in contact after this. He caresses his cheek, smiling at all the kisses he’s received. “I know you will Cosimo. That I don’t doubt.”
The sheets up around them almost conceal the secrets of their nights together. They would never get caught or would anyone say anything to the guards here in Rome. His desires are well know here, this workshop is safe for everyone. Shifting, his eyes look up at Cosimo’s feeling their foreheads pressed together. He’s always wondering what Cosimo is thinking. Cosimo came into his life when Donatello was beginning to struggle in his muse. They met and it was like everything began to made sense to Donatello again. They may be separated from one another, but he knows that he won’t forget Cosimo. He also knows that they would see each other again soon. “Never forget that, we will see each other again soon.” He knows Cosimo means his words of love and Donatello feels the same.
DONATELLO * ( @tangledsperanze )
If he was a believer in fate, he would have said that when Giovanni walked into his workshop, it was all meant to be. In Giovanni he’s found a muse, something he had been struggling to find, a friend and a crush. Though, the young artist would never admit this to the man, how could he? The man who has become someone Donatello cherishes, a writer and a damn good one at that doesn’t need a fickle artist hanging around them. If this is all the time that he will receive with Giovanni then it will be enough for Donatello. He wants to put the sketches on display, but he can never show the world that beauty that he sees when he looks upon the man in front of him. He’s curious to see what he might be thinking of during their time together.
“True beauty takes time, my dear writer.” He retorts, not once looking up from his sketchbook. “Maybe another hour or so. Are you able to stay?” He asks, hesitant as dark eyes look up at Giovanni.
HIS HEART HAS ALWAYS BELONGED TO THE ARTS - as a child he’d even toyed with the idea of being a painter like his father. Still , his heart had called for words , he had enjoyed burying his mind in books , in stories. GIOVANNI HAS EVEN FOUND SOLACE IN THEM , historical fiction had always been his favourite , especially when it was centred around the Renaissance. He’s often wondered if he was born in the wrong time. DONATELLO’S WORK REMINDS HIM VERY MUCH OF PIECES HE HAS SEEN FROM THIS TIME PERIOD , they sing to his soul , distract him from his thoughts. A laugh escapes the writers lips and he affords the other man a somewhat amused look.
“I don’t think true beauty has ever been used to describe me before.” GIOVANNI COULD ALMOST SNORT ; he hardly thinks of himself as beautiful. Warm brown eyes linger upon the other , true beauty he thinks , lies in the man before him but he keeps such comments to himself. INSTEAD HE CLOSES HIS EYES FOR A MOMENT. “I have the time.” He admits , there was no-where he needed to be. “Even if I didn’t , I’d make it.”

HERE HE FEELS UNBURDENED - away from his worries & even reality. He’d been on his way back from the library , taking a detour that he was so often fond of. IT WAS NOT UNUSUAL FOR THE SECOND SON TO FIND HIS WAY TO THIS ARTISTS WORKSHOP. This was where Giovanni came to distract himself ; a proud model who for once in his life was not afraid to bare himself to another’s eyes. THERE IS NO NEED FOR CONCERN , FOR ANXIETY. Donatello’s eyes watch him almost reverently , sketching every detail. Giovanni is not entirely sure what the other man does with these drawings - nor does he care. IT ALLOWS HIM A FEW MOMENTS TO JUST NOT THINK , to not care.
“ How long will you continue to need me for?” Words slip his lips , gentle , a smirk etched upon the young mans features.

DONATELLO * ( @tangledsperanze )
Art had been what brought them together, and their shared loved of their home. Though they had both met in Rome when they were younger, it had been more than just a love of art. It took some time for Donatello to admit that it was a finding of one’s soul. He had bonded to Cosimo and when he left to return home, to their Florence, it was the first time that Donatello wanted to go. He was ready to chase after this man and continue their love. He didn’t, he had heard that the other man was to marry, Donatello should have known better. He didn’t compare to his now ex-wife, he still feels this way. He ended up in Florence for work, reconnecting with Cosimo only a few years later. They had stayed in contact with phone calls and texts, and this time he stayed. Donatello never thought that he would get the chance to explore these feelings he’s had for Cosimo since he was in his twenties. “You are a cruel man, Cosimo de’Medici. Looking at the man bathed in the amber light, Donatello couldn’t help but to look at Cosimo with awe. “You were busy, I cannot fault you for that.” Besides, he feels lucky to even get just a little of Cosimo’s time. He sits carefully beside Cosimo, humming softly at his words. “He’s younger than us, he has all the time in the world to perfect his art. Being nineteen is a wonderful age to develop ones art. Bertolo is still learning what he likes best of course.”
IT WAS THAT MEETING IN ROME THAT HAD INSPIRED COSIMO ; that had pushed him to choose his own career regardless of what his father had wanted. Giovanni’s anger had been softened of course when Cosimo had agreed to marry Contessina ; BUT EVEN THEN , his father had reminded him constantly of the life he had ‘thrown away’. It was out of spite that Cosimo had succeeded , making a name for himself in the art world. Yet it was also thanks to Donatello. For the other man had ignited a spark inside of him ; a spark that had developed into a flame that was still burning to this day. THERE HAD BEEN A DIVIDE BETWEEN THEM FOR A WHILE AFTER COSIMO HAD MARRIED ; an unspoken tension but it hadn’t prevented their friendship. It is only now that he is able to look at things with a clear mind and know. “Cruel?” Lips form in a pout but it soon becomes a smirk. “Tell me , how am i cruel?” His words are uttered in a teasing tone. HE GLANCES UP AT THE STARS THAT GLIMMER ABOVE THEM. He hangs on the artists every word about this Bertolo , telling himself it would be ridiculous to be jealous. “I wonder if an artist ever truly knows what he likes.” He muses , the thought has crossed his mind more than once. “I must meet this artist you favour so. He must be quite the talent if you are praising him.”
He’s never told Cosimo, but meeting him changed Donatello’s life for the better. When he met the artist, he was twenty-one and already he felt lost in the world. His passion for his art had begun to wean and it felt him in a state of fear that it was the end for him. Normally, that should have sparked something inside of him to continue his love of art, yet it had left him empty. In meeting Cosimo it was as if his soul was returning to his heart. He never got the chance because he didn’t want to seem he was reaching for something that wasn’t there. But Cosimo had reached into his soul and made him want to be a better man. It hurt, to see him marry and he wanted to close himself off to Cosimo. He never did, he didn’t want to lose him. “You are cruel in making me watch you underneath the moon’s light.” He points out with a smile on his face. “I don’t know if we ever do, gods know I’m always changing my mind when it comes to my creations. You’d like Bertolo, I’d like to introduce the two of you soon.”
DONATELLO * ( @tangledsperanze )
Their love has never been an easy one. If anyone knew their true feelings for one another, it would have caused so much trouble between the two of them. It could have led to Cosimo and his family being exiled sooner or worse. Yet, neither one of them could ever deny their feelings their have held all these years. The letters that have passed between them over the years have held them together for these many years apart. He’s gone back and forth between Florence whenever he was able to hadn’t been easy. He was grateful that he made it to Cosimo’s side after his poisoning. He didn’t know what he would have done without the other man, even if the situation was very dangerous. “Think of the fun we will have finding something new together.” It has been time since they have been together.
The artist knows that this exile wouldn’t last forever. Cosimo was far too clever to take something this and hide in Venice for the rest of his days. The Medici would return to Florence, stronger than ever and he’ll return back to Rome. “I always find peace when I am beside you as well love.” Donatello spoke. He hopes that Cosimo would recover and not have any permanent damage. “I will not leave your side until you order me to go. Even then, I will stay, because I’m too stubborn for you to get rid of me.” Donatello teased. He could busy himself with work, but he’d much rather spend his time with his dreamer.
SOMETHING NEW - the younger him might have seen this as an opportunity of freedom and grasped at him but the Cosimo that he presented himself as today could only see his own failings. IT IS HIS PRIDE, it has always been troublesome , preventing him from seeing things with a clear view. When he is with Donatello for a moment he feels unburdened. He misses the day he could sneak off to Rome and they could spend nights between the sheets. THAT HAD BEEN A DIFFERENT KIND OF RISK FROM THE ONE THAT HAS BEEN TAKEN NOW. Exile. The word alone is a knock to his pride. Cosimo had been willing to die , but the shame that came with losing his place in the city? He could hardly bear it. WHAT DONATELLO PROPOSES IS UNTHINKABLE , to go into exile together. Cosimo should refuse this offer but he cannot. As the other helps him , an arm around his waist , to his study , he knows this is what he had needed. TO SEE HIM AGAIN ; it is as if his soul is returning to it’s true home. Donatello was that home, “It pleases me to hear that.” He admits with a pained smile. He knows he will love this man until his lungs give out ; until his life leaves him & even after then. “I could never order you to do anything.” HE LAUGHS. “Donatello does as Donatello pleases , this is something i have always known my love.” They finally reach his study and he feels as if he can breathe. As he settles into the chair he closes his eyes for a moment. “It is….good to see you.” Has he said this already? Cosimo cannot remember.
Everyday was a grand adventure of Donatello. One never knew what they were going to see or learn and that constant unknown was exciting to him. Once, it could have enticed Cosimo to stay a few more minutes with him. This isn’t the Cosimo he first met in Rome so many years ago. The years had taken away the dreams of the young man he once fell in love with. Now Donatello is left with the banker, who the artist tries his best to unburden his soul. He misses the days when Cosimo would surprise him in Rome and they would spend their nights together. He knows that exile is a blow to Cosimo, one that with time, would be fixed. But he knows Cosimo, this is something that will always stay with the man no matter what happens next.
Donatello knows that he’s asking for too much, even for him. To go into exile together with Cosimo is the biggest risk that he’s willing on his own life. He always played it safe, but this needed to something he does for the one he loved most. He used to claim that Rome was his home, but it wasn’t Rome at all. It was Cosimo. He was his heart and soul. He knows that in every life he lives, only one man could truly claim his heart. The banker that stole his heart. He laughs, it was the truth, Cosimo could never really tell Donatello what to do. “Well, maybe not during the day. That says nothing for us during the night.” He teases; surprisingly feeling more relaxed in the study. There were few that could interrupt them. “It is good to see you, my love.” He returns the affection with a kiss to Cosimo’s forehead.
BAMBINO * ( @tangledsperanze )
He doesn’t know what Cosimo would say to him. He’s always wanted to make his nonno proud and sometimes as a child, he felt that he wasn’t doing enough. He pushed himself harder and faster, not caring if he ended up exhausted. He did his best to carry his Cosimo’s strength to lead their family as everyone expects of him. On the other side of the coin, he tried to follow his grandmother’s wisdom. That he should do good, and he knows that taking a life is not something good. But he had to protect his father, his brother. If he ever lost them, his heart would be broken and he’d be shattered for good.
Lorenzo is quiet for awhile after Cosimo speaks to him. He gathers up his thoughts and emotions to everything that happened. There’s so much to think about, but he doesn’t make Cosimo wait long. He gives details about how they were on their way home when they were attacked. Him and Giuliano had gotten their father safe and chased some of the other men. With a little struggle, he tells his nonno how he had one of the men on top of him and he used a dagger to end his life. “Everything that man was or ever would be is gone.”
As organised as the study was ; some of these volumes of books had not been touched in years - this was a sign of the respect he’d had from his family. NONE DARED TO TOUCH , without permission. Cosimo’s office has always been a private place. The palazzo was large , with many rooms yet this one was the one the elder banker had always favoured. FOR NONE ENTERED WITHOUT HIS PERMISSION EITHER. Lorenzo takes a seat & Cosimo watches his grandson with tired eyes ; he had been supposed to join them in Careggi but had been too ill for the journey & so had remained home. NOW HE COULD SEE HE HAD ESCAPED ALMOST CERTAIN DEATH , yet there is guilt at not being there , at Lorenzo having to face this on his own.
Lorenzo was no longer a boy , Cosimo knows this and yet it is hard to see him as anything else. Each detail only causes further worry and guilt and for a moment he says nothing. IT IS SILENCE AS COSIMO TRIES TO FIND THE WORDS. “He is gone due to his own actions.” The banker finally responds , cerulean blue orbs locking upon the others. “This not your fault , these men were clearly prepared which only leaves me to believe this was a planned attack. They knew what they were getting themselves into.” TAKING ANOTHERS LIFE HOWEVER IS NOT EASY. “Bambino , you had no choice.”
DONATELLO * ( @tangledsperanze )
Donatello has been surrounded by art since he was young. He had found a love of sculpting and creating things from a goldsmith. He had been born in Florence and knew he that he could not follow his father’s life. He couldn’t be tied to wool. That wasn’t to say that he didn’t appreciate his father. His father helped set him on the path to work with trade. Though life had its own disappointments and Florence could never be what he needed. It’s why he left to Rome, he wanted to be with the artists and found a new home here. He never wants Cosimo to feel life’s disappointments, he has a love for the banker. “I’m alright my love, I never got hurt badly and never got into too much trouble.” He murmurs, brushing his lips back.
He loves that grin and knows that until he leaves the artist will lavish more and more attention. He will start his creation, tonight after Cosimo is asleep. He only has a few days to do this and will need all the time in the world to create it. “I’m glad, that you trust me as much as you do. You are very precious to me Cosimo de’ Medici.” He hopes his actions and the small words he says can convey an emotion that Donatello has avoided. Love. That he loves this precious dreamer above him, chasing kisses as he is pressed against the bed. “I hope, I never wish to be a cause of pain for you.” Though that pain will come, when they are to be parted.
THEY COME FROM THE SAME CITY , yet it has treated them so differently. From all that he has learned of Donatello ; it is that Rome was the artists true home. Florence had held nothing for him , yet Cosimo cannot help but wonder if that has changed. WHEN HE RETURNS TO THE CITY , will Donatello visit? Or will it simply be letters back and forth?. It’s clear to see that the banker is worrying about it , for as he trails fingers against the others cheek , his own expression seems to fall. HE THINKS OF DONATELLO , brawling in the streets , defending himself. Their lives were different indeed. “I’m always going to worry.” He murmurs , holding himself close to him. IN ROME HE DOES NOT HAVE TO THINK ABOUT WHAT IS EXPECTED. In Rome he only needs to think about Donatello & spending every waking moment with him. “You could never cause me pain.” He is so naive ; he has no idea of the trials that await them both - OF WHAT IS TO COME. He thinks not of his departure , but of this moment. Cosimo does not ask for declarations of love , he fears he would never get them. Instead , all he asks for is a few hours of the artists time. “As you are precious to me.”
LORENZO * ( @tangledsperanze )
Lorenzo’s glad that he was able to express how he felt for his best friend, he’s also glad that Sandro felt the same way. It would have been painful to be rejected by your best friend. “Me? I’m never ridiculous, I’m being perfectly sane.” He teases, but chases back from another little kiss. He hums softly as Sandro plays with his hair; he loves this feeling more than anything. He wonders if he couldn’t sleep tonight, if he could get Sandro to play with his hair. “You are very good at persuading, but I think now that we are taking, you might get me to do what you want.” He grins, pressing a kiss to the other man’s nose.
Sandro makes a sound torn between amusement and derision. “You’re always ridiculous.” he mutters but he’s smiling. FINGERS SLIDE THROUGH CURLS AS THEY HAVE BEFORE , caressing each and every one. “I am it’s true.” He adds as an afterthought. A kiss is pressed to Sandro’s nose and he smiles, bringing his head down to rest against the others chest as they movie plays. HE SWEARS THIS IS HEAVEN. There is no other. “So are you gonna tell me whats keeping you up at night?.”
Lorenzo looks at him horrified at his words. He knows that Sandro’s joking, but it doesn’t stop him from pouting. “You are being very rude to someone who came all of this way to see you.” He teases, as he leans into the fingers in his hair. This was a perfect feeling, one that Lorenzo could always get used to. He wonders if Sandro could feel and hear how loud his heart was pounding for the man that laid here in his arms, watching the movie beside him. This was better than any poem that he could have written. “The bank is keeping me up. Father has overextended us by giving people too many loans and they haven’t been paid in return.”
—Giuliano—
He brushes hair from his eyes, knowing exactly who has taken his goblet out of his hands long before he ever had to look up. “Well you must forgive me, brother. You have been so busy, I decided to start without.” Humming, he leaned onto his elbows, as he looked over at his older brother. “You being my brother is not a fact that I have ever forgotten.”
Swiftly he moved to claim a seat by a wooden chair nearby, leaving his back against its smooth surface with an audible sigh. “ Well, perhaps if you’d help me more I wouldn’t be so busy. ” A teasing undertone echoed in the depths of his voice as he took another deep sip of the wine, finishing the portion in the goblet. “ Oh do look more PLEASED when you say that, Giuliano. Being your big brother has been one of the few joys in my life. ”
Sighing in response and perhaps the tiniest bit of mocking, he leans forward, elbows resting on his knees as he stares at his elder brother. “Here I thought that you didn’t need my help. You’ve lovingly pointed out that you have others more capable to help. You know I’d help if you truly wanted me to.” He’s trying not to pout, knowing that most of the wine in the goblet will be gone soon. He’ll just get more when his brother isn’t looking. “Yes, Lorenzo, I forgot that you’ve always preferred the company of our sisters, rather than with your only brother.”

Just take a deep breath, Mahfiruze… This isn’t Constantinople anymore… It’s Florence…
The young sultana fumbled with her slender, manicured fingers as she was escorted down the hall to meet with the Lord of Florence. Mahfiruze Hümaşah came to the grand state on behalf of her brother, Sultan Mehmed the Conqueror, to discuss diplomacy and trading between the ever growing Ottoman Empire and Florence. Why Mehmed chose her to go was beyond her, but he knew that with her beauty, she could easily sway anyone, man or woman, into doing whatever she asked them of. Her kind and gentle demeanor were a plus. Who could say no to an almost ethereal young woman?
Yet, the princess was quite bashful around the opposite sex due to her Islamic faith and status. Her only interaction with men were her sultan brother, their late father, and the eunuchs who worked within the Imperial Harem. It didn’t help that her Florentine ladies-in-waiting were constantly gushing over the magnificent Lorenzo, about how charming and strikingly handsome he was. This only made her more nervous of excelling in her brother’s request.
With a gentle rap on door, a guard announced her presence the moment she halted in front of the meeting room.
Her Imperial Highness, Mahfiruze Hümaşah Sultan, sister of Sultan Mehmed, is here, your Grace.
The young banker, he knew that he would entertain nobles from different lands. He took many of the weeks before Mahfiruze Hümaşah was supposed to come to Florence. He didn’t want to insult her by not knowing much about her home and about the Ottoman Empire. He knew that it was important to impress the sultana, Florence needed the support of the Ottoman Empire. He knew too well how strong the army was and Lorenzo knew it would be smart to have that an alliance if Florence ever needed to be defended.
He had heard how beautiful the princess was and knew however that he must tread carefully. All he’s heard from his brother about how beautiful Mahfiruze Hümaşah was. Yet, he knew that she wasn’t here to be flirted with. He knew of her faith and read up about it. He was curious if she had ever seen many places past her home, or if this was the first time that she’s been away from home? Regardless, he knew that she would be treated with the respect she deserved.
Hearing the knock, he nodded his head and when she entered the meeting room, be bowed and took his hand to press a kiss to the back of it. “It is an honor to meet you, your majesty.”

While he only knows the true pain of death, from his father passing, he’s never known losing a wife. He does understand the need to withdraw and keep oneself away. However when it was Beatrice who asked the banquet, in order to help get her brother out of their own palazzo, who was he to refuse? Beatrice was quickly becoming a friend to his family and he understood her wanting to help her brother. When he sees Alessandro look towards him, he gives back a polite smile and bow of his head. He’s aware of the whispers as well and it would do no one any good to listen to idea gossip. A good man has lost his wife, he should allowed to look as sad as he wants. However, he didn’t want Alessandro to look alone, in doing so, he leaves his companions and his mother to weave his way through the crowded room. He’s doesn’t believe he’s ever spoke to Alessandro before and only hopes the other man have a good time. When he reaches him, he politely calls out his name. “Messer Mannini, thank you for coming tonight.”
When he notices the younger man approaching him, Alessandro quickly takes a sip of his wine and steels himself for the imminent polite conversation. He nods in acknowledgement. “Thank you for inviting me, although I have a suspicion that is my sister’s doing.” His eyes find the familiar figure of his sister across the room, who offers him an approving smile. His attention returns to the host and he smiles gently. “My apologies if I ruin the mood of the night, however. It has been a while since I’ve attended a banquet.” And he was anxious to return home, so that he could make sure his daughters were doing alright.
He understands that this must be a difficult situation for Alessandro to deal with. From what he knows from the other’s man sister, that he probably would rather return home. Having his own son made him wish to not stay at the parties as long as he used to. “I will admit, it was your sister who begged me to extend an invitation to you. She can be very persuasive when she wants to be.” He returns the gentle smile, nodding his head to Alessandro’s sister. “That is alright, I do hope you have a good night and if you wish to return home at any time, you can. You don’t have to stay here for a long time. You coming tonight was enough for me.”
