Something I think people learning to draw black characters or just generally any nonblack artist should really think about is like, do you engage with Black artists? Like outside of looking at their tutorials and tips, do you follow black artists? Do you look at, and study their style and the way they draw black characters? I think thats a really important aspect for nonblack artists, you can say x y z, but are you like actually engaging with black art especially outside of the public eye? This of course goes for any artform but i here was specifically talking about art in the sense of painting, drawing, animation, etc.

*Cronan’s reaction time is a little slow and he barely manages to catch it. He briefly stares at it like it’ll explode before slowly going through it. If Declan is paying enough attention he might notice that Cronan’s hands have a tremor, but it’s worse with his right hand*

“I don’t suppose you’re armed, are you?”

*he notices and he looks over his face with a little less anger as he takes his knife out of his boot and slides it across the floor in his direction silently*

*He eyes the knife warily, but visibly relaxes a little once the knife is out of Declan’s reach. He finishes searching the bag and holds it out for Declan to take back, shifting a bit uncomfortably in his chair*

*Declan snatches it back quickly, checking to make sure nothing was taken*

"And now thats been established, I'd like to know where exactly it is ive had the misfortune of winding up at."

"Righttt. You got me! I'm actually sending my pet fleas to probe your little brain for information as we speak."

“You say you don’t know where you are or how you got here. What’s the last thing you do know?”

*he lifts up his shirt a bit to reveal a large nasty bruise on his side for a moment before dropping with a bitter smile*

"Cute right? Anyways, that happened and... I dunno anything else."

*Cronan’s expression is unreadable for several long moments before it seems to soften further, if only marginally*

“Do I even want to know the series of events that led to you being in that predicament?”

*he reaches for his cane and stands with a grunt*

*he squints at him, though most of his usual attitude is gone *

"I just realized I told you my name but you've never said yours. Doesn't seem very proper an introduction. It can be a fake one for all I care. "

*Cronan raises an eyebrow, his lips curling slightly as his smirk returns. He shuffles over to a small cabinet and rummages around in it before tossing a small jar of salve to Declan*

“Try that for the bruising. Works like a charm, believe me I know.”

*he then bows slightly*

“Cronan. I’d say it’s a pleasure, but that still remains to be seen.”

*Declan catches it stifling a smile as he gives a head nod in return*

"I also might have gotten caught... stealing something."

“I figured there was more to it. What were you trying to steal?”

“Essentially. A very recent development, I might add.”

“This is one of few places that the Creed doesn’t know about, which makes it one of the very few safe places left in this part of the continent.”

"So how long have you been stuck here?"

*He looks at Declan for a long moment before blinking as if he just realized he's been standing this whole time. He vaguely gestures at the other chair in the room*

"You can…sit if you'd like. Or not."

"So how long have you been stuck here?"

“We’ve been here for about three weeks or so.”

*he squeezes his eyes shut, counting under his breath as he begins to rock*

*Declan crunches up into a ball in corner in the room, staring blankly at the wall ahead as his eyes dull in glow*

*The tremor in his hands gets visibly worse*

*Declan seems to come back from whatever it was as the fading dims, though he looks slightly disoreanted and doesn't take his eyes off the wall*

“What just happened?”

*he tries to maintain his usual expression, but he's clearly shaking*

"Its over now and its not happening again."

*After a moment, he sighs and his expression softens again*

“Sit down. I’ll…make tea.”

*he stands back up with a huff and rummages around for some teabags.*

"I....Thanks."

*Cronan nods gruffly and puts the pot of water over the fire to warm up and he grabs two mugs and puts the teabags in them. The mugs clink together a little from his hands shaking before he sets them down*

"Its like... what that was.."

*Declan hesitates*

"I.. I get these things sometimes. Almost like visons. They suck and it feels like my brain is going to bleed out my nose and stuff and-"

*he shudders*

"Well like I said they suck."

*Cronan’s expression goes stormy and he nods along, pouring the hot water into a mug and putting a teabag into it before holding it out to Declan with shaking hands*

“Like your mind is shrinking and expanding at the same time?”

*he asks with understanding as he eases back down into his chair with a mug of tea of his own*

*he accepts the mug, squinting at him*

"Lucky guess or you have em too?"

“Yes, and no. I highly doubt our respective afflictions come from the same source. If I were a betting man, I’d bank on it.”

*he smirks mirthlessly at the mug in his hands*

“Mine is less an affliction and more…Well, an entity intentionally messing with my mind. And the rest is the residual effect of having that connection forcibly severed.”

*Declan sniffs cautiously at the mug before taking a tiny sip*

"Does it have something to do with whatever happened to your hands?"

*he cringes slightly realizing it might have come off as offensive*
