Name: Caitríona (Ríona) Royeaux
Age: 20
Gender: Female
Sexuality: Bisexual (male preference)
Hometown: Lumiose City, Kalos
Occupation: Trainer
Badges: Eight Kalos League Badges, no Tannum League badges as of yet
Ribbons: none
BACKGROUND
Born to a wealthy Kalosian family, it was expected that, when the time came, Caitríona would take over her family’s business. For a time, she believed the same and never thought much about it. As she grew older, however, the girl realized that such an idea might not appeal to her- though what she might do instead, she did not know. True, it was not the only option present, and her family’s fortune meant she would be secure in almost any route she took- but it was what everyone thought she would do; why fight it when she was still uncertain?
It was when the young heiress turned fourteen that this line of thought began to change. Ríona, as she liked to be called, had never truly had a Pokemon to call her own until, on her birthday, she received the gift of young Eevee. The young girl quickly became friends with the little creature-soon named Mia- and in the process of raising her, discovered a passion for training. Why not consider taking on the League some day?
Her father, at first, dismissed the idea as a flight of fancy, but in time relented, and when Ríona was sixteen, she was permitted to set out on her journey around Kalos. Eventually, she was able to earn the eight badges of the Kalos Pokemon League, and returned home in triumph.
However, when one is a member of the upper class, rumors almost always surface eventually. She had not truly earned her badges, some unsavory circles liked to say- daddy’s money probably did the trick instead. Ignore them, she thought, pay them no mind and they will go away. And they did- but the thoughts still remained. Eight badges still weren’t enough- they still saw her as a spoiled princess, and it was absolutely infuriating.
How best to solve this? Perhaps make a name for herself outside of the Kalos League? She could go anywhere, really- Kanto, Hoenn, Unova- but to the stubborn young woman, the best choice seemed to lie to the far north: Tannum, as it was known, one of the harshest and most rugged provinces. Surely, if she could pass the trials of the Tannum League, she could earn the respect she sought.
And so it was that Ríona packed and made arrangements to travel north, Mia and the rest of her team in tow. She has no illusions about the Tannum Journey being an easy one- but that is exactly why she has come here, and she would have it no other way.
POKEMON
Name: Mia
Gender: Female
Species: Espeon
First met: Lumiose City
Nature: Modest
Ability: Synchronize
Current moveset: Psychic, Dazzling Gleam, Shadow Ball, Psyshock
Background/Personality:
Mia is Ríona’s first ever Pokemon, and the one who has been with her the longest, through thick and thin- though she is more of a friend than a pet, in truth. Her psychic abilities have also proven useful in Ríona’s personal life- combining them with the pair’s close bond means that Mia usually has a very accurate read on her trainer’s feelings and knows when she needs help or reassurance.
Generally collected, if playful, she is very friendly and can often be seen walking alongside Ríona instead of resting in her Pokeball. Watch out, though- if Mia decides she likes you, she can be very affectionate, and may try to fit herself in your lap.
Name: Gizmo
Gender: Male
Species: Delphox
First met: Lumiose City
Nature: Calm
Ability: Blaze
Current moveset: Flamethrower, Calm Mind, Psychic, Grass Knot
Background/Personality:
Gizmo is Ríona’s second Pokemon, having met her as a Fennekin when she was given permission to set out on her Kalos Journey. He is quite composed, almost seeming icy at times, and functions somewhat like the team’s big brother, often the one to help Ríona keep Dante in line should he try to get into mischief or lose his composure.
Amusingly, Gizmo also has a bit of a vain streak- when let out of his Pokeball, he can often be found grooming himself. Should you decide to help him with his routine, it’s an easy way to win his affection.
Name: Dante
Gender: Male
Species: Absol
First met: Kalos Route 8
Nature: Impish
Ability: Pressure
Current moveset: Play Rough, Night Slash, Swords Dance, Knock Off
Background/Personality:
The story of how Ríona met Dante is rather an interesting one- and one Ríona was probably lucky to have survived. Traveling the cliffs of Muraille Coast in bad weather is never a wise idea, and Ríona would have lost her life to to doing so- were it not for a certain Pokemon dragging her back. Taking it as a sign, Ríona and her team engaged him in battle, and he has been a member ever since.
Despite his intimidating appearance, Dante is quite playful, and often likes to play pranks on the other members of Ríona’s team, much to Cosette’s distress- usually harmless, unless he’s been aggravated, in which case he will usually be returned to his Pokeball. Nevertheless, the Absol has a good heart, and will not hesitate to protect his friends should they be in danger.
Name: Cosette
Gender: Female
First met: Kalos Route 12
Nature: Timid
Ability: Static
Current moveset: Dragon Pulse, Thunder, Rest, Sleep Talk
Background/Personality: When Ríona met Cosette, the Ampharos was still a young Mareep- and a tiny one at that. So much so, in fact, that Ríona was surprised to find her on her own- had she been abandoned by her herd because of her size and fearful personality? For a time, the miniature Pokemon seemed to be watching the young trainer and her team, but was difficult to coax out- and when she did find enough courage to come closer, she was not the strongest of opponents. Still, she was so little and so clearly begging for affection, that Ríona could not even think of not taking her along.
Even as an Ampharos, Cosette is quite small, her growth never really having caught up. She has overcome much of her shyness, however, thanks to Zelda’s training- though she can still be somewhat skittish at times, which makes her an easy target for Dante’s pranks, even with the occasional shock in retaliation.
Name: Zelda Shanae “Sheik” Harkinian
Age: 20
Gender: Genderfluid masculine-leaning. (He/Him when presenting as Sheik. She/Her when presenting as Zelda)
Sexuality: Demi
Hometown: Rustboro City, Hoenn
Moved to Pinefield Town
Occupation: Team Astra Grunt
Badges: N/A
Ribbons: N/A
Team Astra Rank: Grunt
Recruited: 2 years ago
Loyalty: double agent
BACKGROUND
Sheik is a relative newcomer to the Tannum region, originally hailing from the industrial hub of Hoenn, Rustboro City. In fact, he wasn’t always known as Sheik, and to this day his parents are unaware of the location of their child, ‘Zelda.’
Zelda’s parents had placed high hopes of achievement on their only child, a pressure that eventually made her resent them and the high-paced city life that she associated with them. She studied hard in school, for their sake, worked diligently to train for pokemon battles, for their sake, and applied to internships at the Devon Corporation, for their sake. It was when her parents took away the pokemon she had trained (so that they could be traded out for rare collector species) that she realized that she deserved to start living for herself rather than for them. At age seventeen, they rid themself of the identity ‘Zelda’ and instead took on an identity that was, for the first time, theirs: “Sheik.” Sheik left Hoenn without telling a soul, cutting all ties with his past life and seeking a new one in a distant region.
Upon moving to the Tannum region, Sheik settled in Pinefield Town, a complete antithesis to the city he’d grown up in. Here, he reached out to the local JL Agency to receive his second starter Treecko (his first in Rustboro, a Mudkip, had been among those confiscated by his parents). Sheik accomplished very little his first year in Tannum, spending most of his time exploring the surrounding forest for soul searching, and trying to adjust to a life that was no longer structured. Aside from Treecko, only one other pokemon, a Nincada, was added to his team during this time.
Sheik found purpose again when he encountered a man recruiting for Team Astra. Knowing how troublesome the ‘Teams’ of Hoenn had been, he was naturally wary of the one of Tannum. He stayed long enough to listen to the man’s fervent assertions regarding Astra’s goodwill, and then went home that night to do some research on his own. While perusing through any information he could find on the team, he concluded that their goals were reasonable, and that he needed to see for himself if there was any truth to the rumors surrounding their illicit activities. The next time he encountered an Astra recruiter, he immediately expressed interest in joining their ranks.
It took no longer than a month for Sheik to realize that he completely disagreed with the methods employed by the organization. However, he also recognized that the threat predicted by Astra could not be ignored, and while their methods were crude they were the best resource to learn more about the legendary beast. Thus sparked Sheik’s newfound determination to climb the organization’s ranks and he worked harder than ever to impress his superiors, all while helping alert the authorities to some of Astra’s more heinous crimes when he could.
He began to train his pokemon seriously again, something he hadn’t done since leaving Hoenn. No stranger to long work hours and rigorous study in both academics and battle, his past experiences in Hoenn have become valuable in his efforts to impress the Astra admins. The only thing stunting what would have been a quick ascent were, though mild, some suspicions regarding his loyalty.
As a double agent, Sheik corresponds with Team Astra as ‘Sheik,’ and corresponds with the authorities as ‘Zelda’ in situations where face-to-face communication is necessary.
Sheik is a thoughtfully quiet individual. However, he can prove to be talkative and pressing if he finds reason to learn more about a person (be it for friendship or for assessing threats).
Although his past experiences have left him rather disillusioned and somewhat cynical, those he feels comfortable with may see the rare glimpse of his playfully teasing side.
POKEMON
Name: Chance
Gender: Male
Species: Grovyle
First Met: at 17yo. First arrival in Tannum. Pinefield Town
Nature: Serious
Moveset: Mega Drain, Leaf Blade, Agility, Detect
Ability: Overgrow
Hold Item: None
Background: As Sheik’s second starter, and the first upon restarting a new life, Chance became an important member of his current team. The Grovyle had provided a sense of stability during his initial year in Tannum when he was still trying to find some direction in his life. Having stayed by Sheik’s side through both his best and his worst, Chance has proven to be a loyal partner who could adapt quickly to situations with or without Sheik’s direction. Chance is sometimes serious to a fault, and is the first to refocus a distracted team back to their main objective.
In terms of Sheik’s work as a double agent, the Grovyle’s keen sense of nearby threats as well as their agility have been invaluable in avoiding trouble. He usually remains outside of a pokeball.
Name: Arrow
Gender: Male
Species: Ninjask
First Met: at 17yo. Everscape Forest.
Nature: Brave
Moveset: Swords Dance, Baton Pass, Double Team, Cut
Ability: Speed Boost
Hold Item: Focus Band
Background: Sheik encountered Arrow as a Nincada while he’d been resting at the base of one of Everscape Forest’s titanic trees. It had been an empty time for Sheik, then, as he was still struggling to find a way to define himself in this new region, and he’d caught the Nincada with as much purpose as he’d had with his own life.
Arrow, who had burrowed out of the ground nearby, had been caught simply as battle practice for Chance, as at this point the Treecko hadn’t had any battles for months. Sheik couldn’t have anticipated how valuable Arrow would be in the years to come. Arrow’s strongest characteristic is his mettle against opponents vastly more powerful than him: The Ninjask blindly follows Sheik’s orders even in fights where they are clearly outmatched, and fights with more fervor the higher the perceived threat of the opponent.
Outside of battle, Arrow’s ability to Cut through overgrowth has been useful in navigating areas with thick vegetation.
Name: Snitch
Gender: Male
Species: Mightyena
First Met: at 18yo. Immediately upon joining Team Astra.
Nature: Relaxed
Moveset: Thief, Crunch, Roar, Take Down
Ability: Quick Feet
Hold Item: Black Glasses
Background: Sheik was introduced to Snitch upon his entry into the Team Astra organization. The Poochyena was skeptical of the newest recruit at first, especially considering how the other two pokemon in Sheik’s team were not the most impressive. Over time, however, Snitch was able to observe Sheik’s change from a disillusioned youth into one with a fiery passion to make a difference in Tannum. It was something the pokemon could appreciate, and Snitch now maintains a close bond with the rest of the team as well as with the trainer.
With a generally lax attitude, the Mightyena is often responsible for easing the nerves of the rest of the pokemon, especially Arrow, who is known to have a tendency of boldly harassing those deemed dangerous to the team.
Snitch is also known to be skilled at swiping possessions off people and pokemon alike, though Chance is sometimes able to see through his tricks.
Name: Avys
Gender: Female
Species: Xatu
First Met: at 18yo. Pinefield Town.
Nature: Modest
Moveset: Confuse Ray, Teleport, Psychic, Ominous Wind
Ability: Synchronize
Hold Item: Bright Powder
Background: Sheik encountered Avys as a Natu while he was on his way to leave Pinefield Town for one of his first missions for Team Astra. Recognizing that he needed to expand his team if he wanted to become a valuable member of the organization, he decided to catch the pokemon as his first wild pokemon encounter since joining Astra.
Avys is extremely shy regarding compliments, and may teleport away if she believes she is receiving too much praise. Sheik has learned the hard way not to overdo it with the encouragement for this Xatu.
While her Teleport ability can be troublesome in this regard, it has helped Sheik quickly travel from one location to another. This has become useful whenever he needs to slip away to report Astra movement to the authorities.
Name: Cleo
Gender: Female
Species: Joltik
First Met: at 19yo. Underroute Caves Entrance.
Nature: Impish
Moveset: Thunder Wave, Electroweb, Signal Beam, Gastro Acid
Ability: Compound Eyes
Hold Item: None
Background: The most recent member of the team, Cleo, was added on accident. In one of Team Astra’s missions in the Everscape region, Sheik slipped away briefly to rendezvous with an officer near the Underroute Caves. After the meeting, he quickly rejoined Astra, but had not noticed that a resident Joltik had dropped and clung onto his back.
The presence of the Joltik had not gone unnoticed by the Astra Agent he’d been following for the mission, and Sheik was interrogated regarding its sudden appearance. Thankfully, with some clever improvisation and creative storytelling, Sheik was able to convince the agent that he’d always had the Joltik on his team.
Cleo was caught promptly after the mission ended and the grunts were dismissed.
The Joltik remains fond of clinging to Sheik, and can be found sitting somewhere on his person at any given time.
Name: Boreas Vaati
Age: 22
Gender: Male
Sexuality: Asexual
Hometown: Camphrier Town, Kalos
Occupation: Astra Scientist; prev. trainer, independent researcher
Badges: N/A; never challenged.
Ribbons: N/A; never challenged.
Team Astra Rank: Scientist
Recruited: 5 years ago
Loyalty: Conditional. Depends on Astra for protection and power against the law; if offered a “better deal,” might desert or turn traitor to.
BACKGROUND
At a glance, either from within the ranks of Astra or to those flipping through rap sheets, Vaati seems contradictory. Wide swathes of time stretch between activity ticks, and outside of them lies a story of mild manners: someone who’d never aspired to the glory of the league or contest fame, who traveled often in pursuit of eclectic research and a personal fascination with the world and the Pokémon who call it home.
Those who know of his stunts—few in number as they are—figure him a very different man.
Born in the sleepy Camphrier Town, a younger mind spent his days hatching dreams far bigger than he could’ve ever hoped to become. As he grew, so did a small contempt for his city and the ones who shared it; a place he felt was backwater, smothering for someone with aspirations that soared above its quiet forests. His guardian, wise and experienced—but old, retired from making strides by the way of Pokémon research—was the one to initially sow an interest in the potential Pokémon held when paired with human minds and human hearts. So too was he the one to equip Vaati for taking the first steps of his Pokémon journey—
By having that equipment stolen.
With Sigilyph he left Camphrier, and with Sigilyph he watched Kalos shrink from the passenger deck of a southbound ferry.
Tannum was not his first stop, nor his second or third. Independent work, a slowly-growing but compact team and a flirting interest in the illicit business of Sinnoh and Unova kept his momentum up, and with his first hesitant steps into the outside world he began to make viable, vile plans. He knew, was ever sure, that there was power to be found in every Pokémon—that it could be brought to light only by the cleverness and will of those commanding it. The question of how to best acquire that power, however, left him aimless.
His goals were clarified when he crept along on his first “investigation” of Sinnohan ruins, only then awakening a burning desire to understand and covet the vast power of ancient Pokémon; to know their potential as only they, themselves do.
Tannum became home after near a quarter decade of searching, and Astrashortly thereafter. The resources and protection it provided, if only in numbers, offered major advantages over the places he’d abandoned; and years later, having risen to the rank of scientist, he spends his days consuming and dissecting knowledge that would’ve been impossible to obtain without Astrasupport.
Still—though grateful—he remains a fickle man, volatile and selfish in his methods and in their aftermath. Any research personally headed has a tendency to turn violent—desecrating nature and attempting to take by force what he feels might benefit his cause, leaving the rest to rot where it lies after he’s through.
POKEMON
Name: Ira
Gender: Female
Species: Sigilyph
First met: On Route 10, Kalos; fourteen years ago.
Nature: Serious
Ability: Magic Guard
Hold item: N/A;
Current moveset: Air Slash, Psyshock, Fly, Roost
Background/Personality: If asked, Vaati can’t be certain whether he’d caught Sigilyph or she’d caught him. Away on one of his first trips to study the Pokémon living among the fields of western Kalos, he’d grown as bold a boy of eight could; it didn’t take long, having snuck away from the protection of his old man’s old team, to run into trouble.
Or—he’d expected her to be, at least. Ira had seemed as interested in his wobbly exploring as she was unthreatened by his tiny attempts to “defend” himself when she came too near. When he was finally found and drug back by the ear, she came with him.
Despite the stoicism she regards most everyone with, she still seems to think of Vaati as the scared little boy she’d known all those years ago. Perhaps it’s because she’s so ancient that it seems as if no time has passed at all; Vaati, personally, thinks she’s just “always been that annoying.”
Name: Renato
Gender: N/A
Species: Starmie
First met: Route 13, Unova; seven years ago.
Nature: Calm
Ability: Natural Cure
Hold item: N/A;
Current moveset: Rapid Spin, Scald, Psychic, Recover
Background/Personality: Caught on impulse during a time made up of growing pains, little Staryu quickly proved itself an invaluable addition to the one-man-band of a team that’d been struggling to stay afloat. What it lacks in expression, it makes up for in presence; just as stubborn as its teammates when either encouraging or demanding that everyone take a break and think things through. Whether its desire to maintain order is born of affection or frustration is…something he’s has never been sure of.
Name: Fig
Gender: Male
Species: Castform
First met: Astra HQ, five years ago.
Nature: Impish
Ability: Forecast
Hold item: N/A;
Current moveset:
Background/Personality: When Vaati’d first been presented with his choice of Astra partners, he’d been conflicted. Put off from four-legged friends due to an incident of unfriendliness when he’d been very small, he’d resigned himself to curiosity of Castform’s uniqueness and ties to the weather—which didn’t sound so bad, he’d thought.
Fig is Fig. Fig is not particularly good at battling, or really anything else. Fig is, however, very practiced at knocking things off his desk, hiding whatever it can carry wherever it can carry it, wandering out in the open while trying to stealth away from authorities, and breaking favorite coffee mugs.
It’s hard not to be endeared to something after spending five years with it, but Vaati does wonder, sometimes.
Good day, Tannum trainers! We are very happy to announce with the release of Pokemon Sun/Moon that we’ll finally be adding Gen 7 Pokemon to the verse! The Tannum Pokedex has already been updated with the locations of all the new Pokemon.
“But wait!” you say, “where are the Alola forms???”
We’ve decided that the Alola forms will simply stay in Alola, for the most part. It made more sense that way, but if your muse is lucky, they might find them in Tannum. Thieves like Team Skull and what remains of Team Rocket will occasionally throw them into the black market, while some may be found as a game prize in some sketchy, unchecked game corner. You never know! Please note that we will be carefully monitoring how Alolan variants are brought into the verse though; we don’t want Alolan Vulpixes (Vulpixi...?) found by five rookie trainers who ran into the black market, grabbed one, and ran out without a hitch.
Adding Gen 7 Pokemon to your team is simple: just send us a message with the changes you wish to make, and we’ll update your bio as soon as we can!
Name: Twilight
Age: 20
Gender: Male
Sexuality: Asexual
Hometown: White Forest, Unova
Occupation: Ranger
Badges: None
Ribbons: None
BACKGROUND
Twilight grew up not knowing his parents and was raised by his grandmother in White Forest. Growing up around the pokèmon on her ranch and in the forest, he’s learned to understand pokèmon based on their body language. As a child he didn’t have much interest in the league challenge and enjoyed the peaceful life in White Forest, helping his grandmother with her ranch so he was content to just live his life the same in the future. Until he met his future partner on Route 15.
Route 15 was known for its sharp cliffs and dense fog so of course he was warned by the others in White Forest to stay away from it. But his curiosity got the better of him and one day he snuck away to the route, seeing a troop of mankey attacking something. Seeing as whatever it was they were attacking wasn’t fighting back, he’d gone over to try and stop them only for them to turn their anger onto him instead. He’d been fury swiped a few times before a ranger had heard and came over, chasing the mankey away. The ranger scolded him about how dangerous what he’d done was but congratulated him on protecting the poochyena, which had an odd colored coat.
The poochyena was extremely injured so Twilight and the ranger, Shelly, took it back to the ranch to take care of, as his grandmother used to be a nurse. He stayed by the poochyena’s side during its recovery and he’d asked Shelly about what her job was like. Upon hearing about it, he became infatuated with the idea of working to help people and pokèmon in need but was torn between becoming a ranger or staying and working on the ranch. His grandmother, of course, encouraged him to go become a ranger if he that was he wanted to do. Eventually Twilight relented, staying on the ranch until he was 16 and enrolled into Unova’s Ranger School. A mix of fieldwork, mock rescues with rental pokèmon and studying directly under an experienced ranger
After he graduated, Twilight was considered a rookie Pokèmon Ranger and was stationed in Kalos for two years before he received a letter saying that his grandmother was going to pass soon. He was granted a trip back to Unova and spent his time by her side until she died. He stayed on the ranch taking care of the pokèmon until he was called back to Kalos, he was worried about the pokèmon he took care of but with the assurance from the others in White Forest that they would take care of them, he left once again.
He remained in Kalos until he heard of Tannum and became interested in the region after reading up on it. He requested to be stationed there instead of Kalos and after much debate, he was allowed to but was told to not go near any of the more dangerous areas of the region unless a more experienced ranger was with him. A place he frequently visits is Passend City, he enjoys seeing the way the people there live their lives so when he’s not on a mission, he’s more often than not there.
Generally a very laid back person, Twilight will act childishly if someone mentions the fact that he looks younger than he actually is since he looks around 17-18. He takes his job as a ranger seriously though and, even though he enjoys battling, he won’t hesitate to throw a battle if he gets a call in the middle of one.
POKEMON
Name: Quin
Gender: Mightyena (shiny)
Species: Female
First Met: Met as a Poochyena on Unova Route 15
Nature: Impish
Ability: Intimidate
Hold Item: Liechi Berry
Current Moveset: Assurance, Dig, Incinerate, Return
Background: When Quin was born, she had 2 brothers and 2 sisters and they all looked the same except for one glaring difference between them; Quin’s fur was brown instead of gray. Because of this her mother abandoned her and she was left to fend for herself, which was going decently well until she stepped into mankey territory. Completely helpless to the pig monkey pokèmon, she simply huddled down and endured the barrage of attacks until suddenly they’d stopped. The last thing she saw before she fainted was a young boy being attacked by the mankey. She woke up a couple hours later with her injuries treated and the same boy, who’s name she later learned was Twilight, happily watching over her. Her original plan was to just stay until she healed up enough to leave but she ended up enjoying Twilight’s company, eventually becoming his most trusted partner.
As her nature suggests Quin loves to mess with the team when they aren’t on a mission, whether it’s taking Twilight’s hat or stealing food when no one’s looking. Despite this, she’s fiercely loyal to him and the two always have each other’s backs.
Name: Courage
Gender: Male
Species: Dewott
First Met: Given by Professor Juniper when he was leaving for Kalos
Nature: Brave
Ability: Torrent
Hold Item: Wacan Berry
Current Moveset: Razor Shell, Rain Dance, Ice Beam, Rock Smash
Background: Courage was one of the three starter pokèmon that Professor Juniper gives out to new trainers. He’d seen a lot of trainers but no one ever picked him and soon he got desperate to travel around the region, running from the lab and ran into Twilight a couple towns over. Courage had panicked upon seeing Quin as a mightyena and tried to run away but Twilight managed to calm him down. He then asked the oshawott if he was one of Juniper’s pokèmon to which Courage nodded. He called Juniper at the Pokèmon Center and was going to return him when she asked him if he minded taking Courage along to Kalos, feeling bad that he was never picked by a trainer. Twilight agreed instantly happy to have another partner and, after receiving his pokèball, named him Courage saying that “he had a lot of courage to run away from the lab like that.”
Courage is the youngest on the team and quite enjoys being a Pokèmon Ranger’s pokèmon rather than a normal trainer’s. He takes great pride in using his scalchops to rescue those who need help.
Name: Fenta
Gender: Female
Species: Skiddo
First Met: Met while visiting Baa da Mer Ranch in Kalos
Nature: Gentle
Ability: Sap Sipper
Hold Item: Sitrus Berry
Current Moveset: Strength, Bulldoze, Razor Leaf, Nature Power
Background: Fenta was born and raised on Baa da Mer Ranch, living an extremely peaceful life and while she had no problems with it, she wanted to see more than just the same scenery she’d seen everyday of her life. Twilight had come across Baa da Mer while he was stationed in Kalos and decided to visit it to see if it was similar to the ranch he’d grown up on. Unlike his grandmother’s which raised many different types of pokèmon, he was shocked to see this one raised skiddo exclusively. He made quick friends with the owners of the ranch and frequently came back to come see them and the skiddo they raised. One time while he was there, he’d gotten a call about a group of trainers that were stuck behind a rockfall and when he’d gone to help, one of the skiddo wanted to come so she could help. Not one to pass up extra help, Twilight let Fenta tag along and with the help of her Bulldoze, the trainers were rescued much quicker compared to how long it would’ve taken if she hadn’t come. Upon returning to the ranch, Twilight asked if it was alright if Fenta became a part of his team. The owners had no problems with it and Fenta was happy to join him.
Fenta is the most level headed of the group even though she’s the only one that hasn’t evolved. She and Quin tend to butt heads as she’s always scolding the mightyena about the pranks that she pulls.
Name: Pit Hetheas
Age: 16
Gender: Male
Sexuality: Bisexual
Hometown: Norbeach Town
Occupation: Ranger
Badges: None
Ribbons: None
BACKGROUND
Pit grew up in Norbeach Town, and begun a journey to become a Contest Champion. His carer was a retired Champion herself, which made the boy want to follow in her footsteps. She took care of him so it was only natural that he also saw her as a bit of a role model However he didn’t quite have the same knack for it, plus it wasn’t as enjoyable for him as he first imagined it being. As a result, the boy felt lost and without a cause. He didn’t have plan to take down the League, but he also didn’t enjoy contests. Yet he still wanted to have a journey with Pokemon, so was at a loss for what he could do. However one night, he found his cause. An event occurred which made him want to train in becoming a Ranger. Norbeach is known for being rather mountainous. And it is also home to many dragon type Pokemon, one being Bagon. While without a real cause for adventure, he simply stayed local. But one day he saw a Bagon atop a cliff jump, in an attempt to fly. Instincts took over within the young boy as he leaped out, saving the Bagon’s life. Once he had his life saved, the small dragon noticed that it had been heading for an impending doom, and was thankful to Pit for the save. Similarly, Pit felt a rush of excitement, fear and adrenaline mixed all in one when he jumped out into harm’s way to risk his life for the Bagon’s. Moreso than that, he felt a sense of accomplishment and fulfillment when he noticed just how happy and thankful the Bagon was. Fulfillment he’d yet to feel when he entered contests or tried his hand at Pokemon battles. That was the inspiration which struck him to lead a life in the role of a Ranger. He now lives in Goldhaven due to how central it is; it allows for him to go anywhere in the region quickly.
POKEMON
Name: Pistachio
Gender: Male
Species: Chespin
First met: Starter Pokemon via his Journey Leader
Nature: Sassy
Ability: Overgrow
Hold item: None
Current moveset: Pin Missile, Take Down, Seed Bomb, Mud Shot
Background/Personality: Pit didn’t expect to pick Chespin when given the choice of starters. His live hear the sea made him assume he’d pick a water type, but when the choice presented itself, he couldn’t back away from the little guy.
It was likely due to their similar personalities. Chespin being a curious and naive Pokemon certainly fit Pit well. He was peppy and full of energy, much like Pit himself And sooner than he could imagine, he felt close to his Pistachio.
Name: Bagel
Gender: Female
Species: Bagon
First met: Norbeach Town
Nature: Rash
Ability: Rock Head
Hold item: None
Current moveset: Dragon Breath, Dragon Claw, Zen Headbutt, Flamethrower
Background/Personality: While Pit was lost and without any particular calling, he was wandering around his home town. It was one particular day where he saw a Bagon falling from the sky; apparently it had jumped from the top of the volcano to attempt flight.
The sight of it pulled him out of his slump and instead shifted him into gear to jump out and save the Bagon. The thrill and enjoyment he got from saving the Bagon, along with how happy the pokemon seemed to be from being saved made something click in his brain and made him want to protect people and Pokemon. Him saving the Bagon from falling is what inspired him to become a Ranger. The two instantly had a bond, and Pit named him Bagel after his cravings from the time.
Name: Macaroon
Gender: Female
Species: Luxio
First met: Staracre City
Nature: Bold
Ability: Intimidate
Hold item: None
Current moveset: Thunder Fang, Crunch, Discharge, Wild Fang
Background/Personality: While surveying the local area and the city itself, Pit didn’t realise the night fall upon him. Not only that but he was still out when the curfew hit so he was plunged into darkness aside from the twinkle of stars. Through sheer luck, he managed to wander his way to Starfield Valley.
He was actually taken aback, paying more mind to the view of the stars than the path in front of him. Unfortunately that meant he unknowingly stepped on a Shinx’s tail, due to not seeing it. It took some time but he was able to calm the feline down eventually (it certainly helped that he had a stash of berries on him to help). And after calming said feline down, he grew attached to having the company around.
Name: Jalapeno
Gender: Male
Species: Arcanine
First met: Goldhaven City
Nature: Hasty
Ability: Flashfire
Current moveset: Thunder Fang, Crunch, Flamethrower, Flare Blitz
Background/Personality: Rather similar to how he met his Bagon, Pit was going back to Goldhaven after a long day of working. He noticed a Growlithe running along the stretch of land used to separate the two lakes, and he noticed it running a little too close to he edge of the land.
It became apparent to him that things were going to take a turn for the worse for the little puppy if Pit didn’t at least try to intervene. Luckily he managed to stop the Growlithe from falling off before it even occurred, as he dragged the puppy back from the edge. For the save, the Growlithe became fond of Pit.
Name: Henry Umbra
Age: 20
Gender: Male
Sexuality: Asexual
Hometown: Wyndsea City
Occupation: Team Astra Agent
Badges: None
Ribbons: None
Team Astra Rank: Agent
Recruited: 7 years ago
Loyalty: Very loyal. Extremely likely to follow orders, but not if he thinks they’re counterproductive.
BACKGROUND
Henry’s parents were among those who refused to leave Wyndsea City. Henry was only a newborn when the disaster hit. As soon as they could, the couple, who evacuated to Blackhaven, moved back to their home city with their young child. However the new parents were more concerned with restoration attempts on their beloved city then taking care of their child. Once Henry was old enough to not need constant attention from his parents, he was frequently left alone for long periods of time. Being a lonely, bored, and curious child, Henry soon took to leaving the house to explore the ruined city. He very quickly became friends with the many of the local pokemon. In particular, a pack of Mightyena started taking care of him when he was away from home. The neglect at home got so bad, his parents would frequently forget to check up on him, feed him, or even notice he was there at all. He started to leave for days or weeks at a time, preferring the company of the pokemon. Eventually, he started living exclusively with the pokemon, even learn to talk to and understand them. His parents hardly noticed, practically forgetting they ever had a child in the first place. Over time, he became very good at avoiding other humans, who might try to take him home to this parents.
One day, when Henry was about 13, another storm hit. Not nearly as bad as the one that destroyed the city, but still bad. Before the storm started, Henry had wandered to the outskirts of the city. The storm started suddenly, catching him by surprise. He tried to get back to the pack, but the cold and wind quickly sapped his energy and he passed out. One of the Mightyena, one who practically raised him as her child, was searching for him, and upon finding him collapsed in the snow, took him to the nearest shelter she could find, which happened to be an old abandoned cottage near the city. She lay close to him, hoping to keep him warm and, hopefully, alive. Though the cottage was sturdily built, this storm was the one to finally do the weathered building in. It collapsed on the pair, but Mightyena kept the majority of the debris from falling on Henry. Henry made it through the storm, injured from the collapse, and cold, but alive. Mightyena, however, succumbed to the injuries and the harsh cold.
When people came to inspect the damage caused by the storm, they were surprised to find the long lost child, holding the cold body of the Mightyena and sobbing. When they tried to take him away, he lashed out at the rescuers. He wanted to stay with Mightyena, he wanted to go back to the pack, but these people were taking him away, taking him back to the people who neglected him to the point they didn’t even look for him when he left. When he saw his parents for the first time in years, they seemed almost disappointed he had returned. Sure, they fed him and let him sleep on the couch, as they converted his room to storage, but they acted no different than they did when he was young. No ‘oh thank goodness you’re alive!’, no ‘where have you been all this time?!’, nothing. This confirmed what he had suspected all this time; his parents didn’t care about or want him. He left the next morning.
Henry didn’t know where to go, but he couldn’t stay here. It hurt too much. He held a little burial for his Mightyena, said good-bye to the pack, and set off. One pokemon chose to stay with him, a Murkrow who had been friends with him ever sense he first joined the pack.
While traveling, Henry was approached by a Team Astra agent, looking for new people to recruit. Upon learning of their goals, and considering he had nowhere else to go, he joined on the spot. After being blindfolded and given some training, he was given the rank of Grunt. Though he was assigned to work with an Agent, he tended to keep mostly to himself when he didn’t have to work with others. He never really grew close to anyone other than his own pokemon. However, his ability to talk to pokemon made him a surprisingly good trainer for his level of experience. He was eventually given some test assignments to complete on his own, which he did much better at then when he worked with someone else. In 3 years, when he was 16, he was promoted to Agent. He isn’t looking to climb the ranks, he’s pretty happy where he is, but he won’t say no to a promotion.
Henry tends to be sent on missions alone, as he works better alone then with others. He is very active, often sent on research and theft missions, but sometimes helps with recruitment. Because he was raised by Mightyena, his morals aren’t quite the same as most humans. He is not opposed to crime, though he knows to do his best to not be caught, simply because he doesn’t want to get in trouble. He will follow just about any order he’s given. If someone asked him to kill, he would do so without hesitation as long as he could see why it would be necessary.
Despite his lack of social skills, he is rather friendly, especially to people who are friendly to pokemon. When not on the job, he is surprisingly kind and likes helping people and pokemon. He spends most of his free time with pokemon, both his own and wild ones. But when on the job, he won’t let anything stand in his way.
POKEMON
Name: Merle
Gender: Female
Species: Murkrow
First met: Wyndsea City
Nature: Impish
Ability: Insomnia
Current moveset: Wing Attack, Thief, Dark Pulse, Perish Song
Background/Personality: Merle is Henry’s long-time partner. She was one of the pokemon that played with him when he was young, though she was only a fledgling at the time. On long nights, when he was with the pokemon and couldn’t sleep, she would sing him to sleep (though really she just knocked him out with Perish Song) and they fell asleep together. The two are inseparable.
Merle is a bit of a trickster, often messing with those who are not Henry. She doesn’t really care to be kept in her pokeball, but will stay in when she has to.
Name: Ruin
Gender: Female
Species: Mightyena
First met: Astra HQ
Nature: Adamant
Ability: Moxie
Current moveset: Crunch, Sucker Punch, Thunder Fang, Ice Fang
Background/Personality: When given the choice of what pokemon he wanted when he joined Team Astra, Henry instantly knew he wanted the Poochyena. Ruin is Henry’s second most trusted partner, he absolutely adored the creature. Merle was a little jealous of the puppy when when she first joined the team, but now the two are inseparable.
Ruin is as loyal as a pokemon can be. She treats Henry and the rest of his team as her pack. She is fierce, protective, and determined, but also kind and gentle to those on the team.
Name: Vex
Gender: Female
Species: Banette
First met: Wyndsea City
Nature: Naughty
Ability: Cursed Body
Current moveset: Shadow Sneak, Phantom Force, Snatch, Will-O-Wisp
Background/Personality: Vex was one of Henry’s pokemon friends from back when he lived in Wyndsea City. She was still just a Shuppet back then. She was one of three pokemon to join him when he was sent on a mission in Wyndsea City, early on after he joined. When he returned from the mission, he had three new pokemon.
Vex fits in well on Henry’s team, as most of his pokemon are mischievous little guys. She is the most likely to approach others to play a trick on them. She is the least likely to get along with others.
Name: Shade
Gender: Male
Species: Zoroark
First met: Wyndsea City
Nature: Rash
Ability: Illusion
Current moveset: Night Daze, Thief, Focus Blast, Sucker Punch
Background/Personality: Shade was another one of Henry’s pokemon friends. He joined him during a mission in Wyndsea City, back then he was just a Zorua.
Shade is quite a trickster, using his illusion ability to disguise himself as whatever he pleases. He is one of the most useful pokemon on the team for pulling off thefts.
Name: Winter
Gender: Male
Species: Phantump (Shiny)
First met: Wyndsea City
Nature: Timid
Ability: Natural Cure
Current moveset: Forest’s Curse, Confuse Ray, Destiny Bond, Energy Ball
Background/Personality: Winter is another pokemon who joined Henry’s team during his mission in Wyndsea City. Unlike the others, Henry didn’t know this pokemon, it seemed like he came around after Henry had run away. The little pokemon was rather shy and timid around others, scared by those who come after him because of his rarity. Henry managed to get through to the small ghost and befriend him. Winter quickly grew attached to the kind trainer who didn’t just chase him down for the bragging rights of having a shiny pokemon.
Winter sticks to Henry like his life depended on it. If he is out of his pokeball, you will find him clinging to his trainer. He doesn’t fight much, nor does he leave his pokeball often, as Henry doesn’t want him to attract too much attention. Around Henry, Winter is like a small child, kind, curious, and a little silly, but if for some reason Henry isn’t around he becomes scared and may lash out at anyone who approaches him.
Name: Fade
Gender: Male
Species: Sableye
First met: Summerbridge City
Nature: Naughty
Ability: Keen Eye
Current moveset: Thief, Shadow Claw, Knock off, Shadow Sneak
Background/Personality: Henry and Fade met in a rather unusual way. During an assignment in Summerbridge City, the Sableye managed to relieve Henry of a very important item; the device he used to communicate with Team Astra. Henry managed to steal it back from the pokemon, but it wasn’t long before the Sableye had it again. This went on for the entire assignment, but rather than getting frustrated by the mischievous pokemon, Henry saw it as more of a game. When the mission was over, he felt sad about leaving the pokemon, who had endeared himself to him, so he asked Sableye to join him.
Trainers can, at any point, choose to challenge the Tannum League. To do so, they must register for a Trainer Card, a service that’s available at any Pokemon Center.
Trainer Cards record and store a trainer’s information, registering their current team and number of badges. They are used to distinguish dedicated trainers from casual pokemon partnered individuals. Trainer Cards can earn someone access to restricted areas, and individuals who possess a card may be recruited by rangers or officers to assist in dangerous situations, should they be willing.
Once they have obtained their Trainer Card, an individual may begin their journey with the Tannum League.
They do not have to start at any specific gym, as no one leader is ‘weaker’ than another. At the doors to every gym, a card reader will accept a challenger’s Trainer Card, sending their information to the leader inside and communicating with the challenger whether or not the leader is available to battle. If the leader is away from their gym, challengers will be updated with a future scheduled date at which they can challenge that particular leader.
Leaders are not permitted to turn away a challenger. A challenger may forfeit at any time during the match, and step away, admitting defeat, while a Leader must finish battle. Items are allowed to be used by both sides.
It is important to note that no gym leader will have a team suited to novices. The gyms of the Tannum League are challenges designed for experienced trainers, to prove their prowess in battle with their pokemon partners.
Trainers may also use their Trainer Cards to register as a member of any given Tannum League gym. Gym members may use the facilities to train their pokemon, either against one another or against the gym’s challengers. Should a gym’s members be present at the time of a challenge, the challengers must face them before facing the leader. Challengers cannot bypass or turn down a battle with a gym member whilst on the premises of the gym, before they have successfully defeated the leader.

By the time their son was conceived, Nadia and Isaac’s relationship had already begun its steep downward spiral. The happiness they once shared was slowly torn to pieces by Isaac’s rage and self-hatred, the outlet for such feelings becoming more than just verbal attacks. Adding Ben into the picture only served to prolong the situation, with Nadia’s ideas of running back home and enduring the disappointment of her family quickly forsaken. A part of her hoped their son could bring them together again, back to the love they’d shared a year prior, before Isaac’s own family practically disowned him; but Isaac’s mistrust led him to immediately suspect the boy wasn’t even his. It only became easier for Nadia when he was more involved in his work for Team Astra.
Ben was born in Goldhaven city when his father was off doing business, still a lowly Grunt among the organization. If Ben could remember those first two months, he might recall them as his happiest, before Isaac’s return ushered in a normal routine he would swiftly become accustomed to. At first it almost felt manageable, with his mother’s Luxray still around, his only playmate and confidant during the lonely hours left alone. Nadia was working two jobs to help support the three of them, the money Isaac made either spent or hidden, so she was often gone. But once he was old enough for school, and after a heated argument between his parents, Luxray was taken away by his father. Home was a dreaded place then, though school was hardly better, considering the amount of trouble Ben got into for unleashing his own pent up aggression on anyone who got under his skin; it only invited more of his father’s wrath, but that didn’t stop him. What point was there?
Eventually, when Ben was thirteen, his father’s job moved them north to Stormcrest. Going from a bustling city in the middle of the country, to nothing but silence and snow wasn’t as big of a shock as Ben had expected. He hadn’t left much behind in Goldhaven, after all. Maybe one almost-friend, but that still seemed a bit of a stretch. The one thing he felt like he’d lost was his escape from home, now with no school to hide in for most of the day. After the first few weeks, Ben spoke with his mother any chance he could about leaving, the two of them running off to the nearest city and getting away for good; they could survive the harsh wilderness with her Pokemon, they just had to find out where Luxray was hidden. But each time he was met with hesitance, fear, even if he could see how much she truly wanted the freedom. It brought Ben to his tipping point, no longer with an outlet for the anger he harbored at their situation, anger for the man they were trapped by. He didn’t just want to leave; he wanted revenge.
So began his fierce search for his mother’s Luxray, his only friend in this hell. Catching a Pokemon of his own was hardly an option. Besides, it wouldn’t be strong enough to help them. Ben tore through the house whenever his father was gone, but her pokeball was nowhere to be found. Fearing the worst yet refusing to accept it, his search brought him to where Isaac stored his Pokemon team. He left them in a locker at work, away from his family, not willing to risk either of them trying to use the powerful creatures. Ben was as rebellious as his father, however. Sneaking into the research building was the easy part, oddly. No one questioned an employee’s son who said he was looking for his father. The difficult step was figuring out the code, but after a handful of tries he was successful.
Opening the locker to find a single pokeball hidden away was definitely a sight for sore eyes. It could only be Luxray’s, the chances of Isaac actually being able to command the Pokemon and keep it on his team being much too low. With the pokeball in hand, he ran back to their home before his father could spot him there. But Isaac knew; he’d seen the empty space in his locker at the end of the day. And he was furious.
For the first time, Isaac took his entire team home that evening. But Ben was ready, with an equally furious Luxray in his possession. He didn’t stand around to try and fight him though, instead Ben waited inside for the man to enter, demanding where he was. Surprise attacks were always harder to avoid, after all. And he didn’t. Luxray’s ferocious attack nearly knocked Isaac unconscious, and the ensuing battle was enough of a distraction for Ben to take his mother’s hand and run.
Summerbridge was only a few hours south, he’d insisted. They could get there before daylight, and stay to rest before heading south, as far away as possible. Maybe even to Kanto, or Sinnoh. But the blizzard was harsh, and Nadia knew the town was too far. There was no hope in going back though, no future in what they’d left behind, so she did not stop him. He had been right about one thing: they did almost reach Summerbridge before sunrise.
The freezing cold would have claimed both of them, had it not been for his mother and one wandering Cyndaquil. The Pokemon found them half-buried in the snow, one barely clinging to life and the other already gone. Cyndaquil stayed with them until his trainer finally came looking for him, and took action to bring them to the JL Agency’s medical facilities. Ben was under for nearly two days, weak from the ordeal and the shock, but the news of his mother’s fate was quick to change that.
Anger came quickly, at the people who hadn’t found them sooner, at his father, anything that could be blamed. But the guilt that spread through his veins was enough to make Ben run as soon as he could. Far from Summerbridge, far from all he’d known, until he’d made it to Wyndsea’s shores with nowhere else to go but in the ocean. That’s when the grief he’d been determined to ignore finally surfaced, until it nearly drove him to his knees. Yet he brushed off the sorrow, hid behind the walls he’d built for years, lived within the haunted ruins of a city that was as empty as he felt. He travels now, without direction or purpose, if only to look for a way to pass the time.
But Ben has never truly stopped running.
POKEMON
Deckard
Typhlosion - Male
First met: Summerbridge City
Nature: Hardy
Ability: Blaze
Hold item: Black Glasses
Current moveset: Solarbeam, Flamethrower, Focus Blast, Swagger
Background/Personality:
Cyndaquil was always a resistant Pokemon, well bred to brave the elements of the cold city he called home. But when trainers were starting out, they didn’t often value resistance; they wanted power and speed, a Pokemon who could deal the hits, not take them. Being overlooked by many invited doubt to set in, and the chances of a trainer choosing him seemed to slowly diminish. But he continued to brave the frigid winter weather every night, keeping his quills aflame in even the strongest winds, until an exasperated Shepard would drag him back to the JL Agency. A routine that was starting to become mundane once even blizzards felt easy to brush off, yet Cyndaquil continued anyway. It was a good thing he did.
The light of his flames was bright against the white snow and dark horizon, illuminating the ground despite the fierce storm. If it wasn’t for that, he might not have seen the two crumpled forms lying in the snow. Panicked, Cyndaquil did his best to help them, lying close and burning his flames bright in the hopes that a Shepard or anyone would see. It wasn’t long before one came, but it was too late for Nadia. Ben was still alive though, and Cyndaquil was reluctant to leave the boy’s side. He seemed fascinated that he hadn’t perished as well, able to fight off the blizzard despite having no fire.
Cyndaquil decided to follow Ben when the boy said he was going somewhere, anywhere that wasn’t Summerbridge. He’d learned all he could in the city, but now there was a way out. Ben reacted poorly to the Pokemon at first, blaming him for not finding them sooner, so maybe his mother might have lived. That only strengthened Cyndaquil’s resolve to join him; he owed Ben that much.
He became a shadow, always a step behind Ben. From when he left the Agency a bit too soon, all the way past Newwilde and to Wyndsea. Ben’s anger had subsided then, directed inward more so than at the ones around him, and he reluctantly accepted Cyndaquil’s company. But it wasn’t until they made it to Newwilde years later, with the intention to make Deckard officially Ben’s Pokemon, that Ben finally forgave him.
Deckard holds his trainer in high regard, like a disciple to his master. No one is really sure why he does, considering it’s Ben, but he can still be seen standing behind the boy like a one-Pokemon posse. While Deckard has grown to emulate Ben’s more arrogant nature (and typically wears a pair of dark aviators for appearance’s sake), he hasn’t lost his caring streak. But he’s not a pushover either, able to withstand a great deal of damage, definitely making Deckard one of the powerhouses on Ben’s team.
Sarah
Luxray - Female
First met: Goldhaven City
Nature: Serious
Ability: Rivalry
Hold item: None
Current moveset: Wild Charge, Iron Tail, Ice Fang, Crunch
Background/Personality:
Originally belonging to Ben’s mother, Sarah has known him since he was born. A gift to Nadia from her father when she was a little girl, the two were inseparable, a strong bond of friendship that Sarah hadn’t hesitated to extend to her trainer’s son. She was there through the good of Nadia and Isaac’s relationship, and a comfort to her and Ben through the bad. Sitting with Nadia in the kitchen while she cried, quietly, though no one was in the house but them, and later with Ben, when he hid in the deepest part of the closet and clung desperately to her fur. It was painful for her to see them in such torment. But then she was taken from them completely, trapped within her pokeball and thrown in a locker. Hidden for leverage, another reason to make sure Nadia stayed.
For five years, she was kept away before Ben came for her. In a vicious fury, she attacked Isaac, and when he retaliated she stayed behind so Nadia could run with Ben. Nearly beaten by Isaac’s powerful team, despite wounding the man himself, Sarah fled to find her trainer once she’d bought them enough time. The search led her south east, but the blizzard was already too much for the exhausted Pokemon to endure, and she was forced to find shelter until the storm subsided. Sleep claimed her for a day, much more time lost than she had wished. Continuing to track through the frozen tundra in the early morning, the trail led to the outskirts of Summerbridge…and to her trainer’s final resting place.
Locals reported seeing a Luxray limp in the snow for hours, unmoving from the spot it had fallen upon. Sarah was almost determined to perish there atop Nadia’s grave, unwilling to be separated from her trainer so soon, when their reunion had barely lasted a moment. But Ben still wasn’t found, and she refused to lose him too. She couldn’t afford to stay another minute. Thankfully, he was still in the JL Agency, and the employees were more than a little shocked to see a Luxray barreling down the halls in desperate search of someone. Once at his side, it was the last time she’d ever let them be apart.
Sarah is a level-headed Pokemon, able to keep a calm demeanor in tough situations. She’s stayed with Ben through thick and thin, trying to keep the boy out of trouble as often as she can, and still a comfort after all these years. Sarah has a fierce parental streak, with Ben and Cubone being the most common victims of her motherly nature. It makes her a tough fighter, and she’s usually used in double battles thanks to her penchant for teamwork. She holds a deep-rooted hatred of her pokeball, and Ben never forces her into it unless it’s truly necessary (translation: when he’d get in trouble for letting her wander).
Ethan
Cubone - Male
First met: Near Newwilde City
Nature: Lonely
Ability: Rock Head
Hold item: Bone Club
Current moveset: Headbutt, Bone Club, Boomerang, Rock Slide
Background/Personality:
After the sudden death of his mother, Cubone hid among the old trains outside Newwilde, far away from most humans. But unfortunately not all of them. Wandering trainers still tried to catch him, kids who played among the trains would chase him, and the security that patrolled the yard at night scared him off when he hoped to sleep. Yet despite this, Cubone still couldn’t bring himself to leave the place where his mother had fallen.
After he’d learned the guard’s routes, sleeping at least became easier. One old train car was checked infrequently, occasionally forgotten altogether, making it a decent hiding place for the tiny Pokemon. Until he arrived one night to find it occupied by a human and his Luxray.
The metal made the old train car an uncomfortable place to rest in the cold months, but it was still a shelter, and Ben took the opportunity. After all, Luxray and Quilava’s warmth made it somewhat bearable. But he didn’t expect to find a Cubone there too. Small from the lack of food in the train yard, and shivering from the wet weather outside, it was a sad sight. Cubone ran the first two times they met, the second occasion being when Ben went looking for him with food in hand. Three times was the charm though, and Ben finally managed to evade the guards long enough to corner and feed the timid creature. With nowhere else to really go, he returned several times to give Cubone food, until the Pokemon finally stopped hiding from him. Cubone even started waiting for Ben, hidden near their usual meeting place until he arrived. Sometimes, it appeared that Cubone wanted to follow him, but there was always something holding the Pokemon back, an unseen tether keeping him from leaving the old train yard. At first, Ben thought it was just fear; but a few questions to the locals was enough to uncover a hint at the truth.
But after enough of the guards had threatened to report Ben for his trespassing, he reluctantly decided to move on. That didn’t keep him from hopping the fence one last time though, at least to say his goodbyes to Cubone. What Ben didn’t expect was for the small Pokemon to cling to his pants leg, in tears, like a child not wanting a parent to leave. Despite lightly scolding him for crying in such a way, Ben couldn’t brush off Cubone’s sad display. He didn’t really have anyone else, after what happened to his mother; something Ben felt he could relate to. Not wishing to force Cubone to leave, Ben instead told him the time his train was leaving in the morning, with an offer for Cubone to join him if he desired.
Ben was more than a little relieved when Cubone was actually there, waiting in the bushes for him.
Since he was never properly caught, Ethan has no pokeball to stay in, but even if he did Ben wouldn’t keep him in it for very long. He’s very attached to his trainer, oftentimes literally. Ethan is a young Pokemon, so he comes across as childish most times; something Ben will rebuke him for, though all in good jest (and to keep up appearances). Ben does care for Ethan though, and he will often nudge him towards battles he’s fairly confident he could win, to encourage him to become stronger.
Despite his size, Ethan’s got quite the appetite, almost rivaling Ben’s. Ben often shares his food with him, as well as other things like his hoodie, considering Ethan likes to hide in the oversized clothing. Perhaps he just wants the hood up to look cool.
Ripley
Staraptor - Female
First met: North of Highcoast Town
Nature: Rash
Ability: Reckless
Hold item: Silk Scarf
Current moveset: Take Down, Aerial Ace, Close Combat, Steel Wing
Background/Personality:
Once under the command of a poacher, Starly was one of three others the trainer used. And while the other two fell in line despite the rough treatment, she wasn’t so keen on following orders. It resulted in her being thrown into unfair matches for “discipline”, but that didn’t stop her rebellion. It wasn’t until Starly’s trainer made the mistake of challenging a Ranger that she was reported for her treatment of the Pokemon, and the birds finally taken from her. Starly and the others were released back to their home forest, but that didn’t ease the anger; any humans who wandered into her territory were immediately attacked. Rangers were almost considering relocating Starly further away from humans before Ben caught her.
To say being captured again was the last thing she wanted would be an understatement. Ripley refused to listen to any of Ben’s commands, even attacked him and his Pokemon upon being released from her pokeball, resulting in a deep rift of mistrust forming between them in a matter of days. Yet Ben tried anyway, eventually leaving her outside of her pokeball most of the time. With how often she disobeyed him, Ripley didn’t see many battles the first few months they were together. Instead she was left on the sidelines to watch her new trainer at work.
As she observed Ben and how he treated his team, her defiance slowly began to wane. He was stern, yes, but there was a bond between him and his Pokemon she hadn’t seen with her previous trainer. Still distrusting, though she was more willing to give him a chance than she had been. He started to offer her chances to battle then, and though their teamwork remained rickety at best, it was improving — slowly, but surely. It wasn’t until Ben recklessly dove off of Deadman’s Drop, resulting in Ripley evolving into Staravia in order to pull him out of the water and to safety, that respect finally started to form between them.
Ripley is very much the daredevil, ready to follow her new trainer headlong into danger, much to Luxray’s dismay. She does still disobey Ben on occasion to do things her way, but for the most part she’s come to respect him. A Silk Scarf is tied around her neck, placed there by Ben as a lighthearted joke, yet she keeps it as if it were a gift. Trust is a difficult thing to earn with her, and she’s still wary of her own teammates, preferring to do things alone when she can. If Ben ever ends up doing something reckless though, Ripley will surely be his wingman.
Apoc
Pangoro - Male
First met: Mountains near Norbeach Town
Nature: Bold
Ability: Iron Fist
Hold item: Black Belt
Current moveset: Foul Play, Focus Punch, Drain Punch, Ice Punch
Background/Personality:
Rather small for his species, Pancham was always determined to be the strongest on the mountainside he called home. And he was, for a time. Years of training, and he was able to stand toe-to-toe with some of the evolved Pokemon in his area, his list of victories soon overshadowing his earlier losses. Until he challenged one wandering trainer.
Ben met him near Norbeach as simply another wild Pokemon along the way. Pancham was quick to jump at the opportunity for a new challenge, to which Ben sent out Cubone despite the younger Pokemon’s hesitance. It was a hard-won battle, but Cubone succeeded in beating Pancham, leaving the wild Pokemon defeated and baffled by his loss. Faced with the reality that there were, in fact, others still stronger than him, Pancham followed Ben’s team for a day before Ben noticed. More amused than anything, Pancham was offered a rematch…and lost to Cubone a second time. Though not in any condition to continue fighting, he refused to back down, clearly tired of losing and determined to learn. Finding his perseverance admirable, Ben offered to help him train.
It was rough at first, with Pancham still losing many of the battles he was thrown into. But Ben only pushed him harder, first pitting him against those he was neutral to, and later only ones he was weak against, until Pancham could focus in his commands and take out even the latter with ease. From wild Pokemon, to the tough dragon tamers across the island, and Ben’s own team, he faced every challenge until it was finally beaten. After nearly a month, there were no more challenges left to face, save for the Dragon Gym, and he didn’t hesitate to join Ben in taking on the leader. The cooperation between him and Ben wasn’t quite enough though, and faced with the threat of losing after all his progress, Pancham evolved to finish the fight, defeating his final challenge. It felt like a hollow victory for Ben, however, knowing that Pangoro would likely want to stay behind; he’d followed him to learn how to become stronger, and Ben had fulfilled that need. But despite his attempts to make Pangoro stay behind in Norbeach, to push him away before he left himself, the Pokemon continued to follow him regardless. Without Ben to help him focus, he might never have made it this far, and he desired to continue on with him. Before they left the island, Pangoro was caught and made an official member of Ben’s team.
Apoc is Ben’s strongest Pokemon in terms of pure power, and he relies heavily on offense in a fight. He takes battles a bit too seriously perhaps, but his resolve, something he and Ben have in common, does make him an excellent fighter. Like his trainer, Apoc encourages his teammates to learn through trial and error, by fighting any challenge and never backing down. He brings a lot of morale to the team, even in the face of defeat. Despite his fighting spirit, Apoc is very level-headed outside of battle, and sometimes he has to keep Ben in line before the boy does something reckless.
Kitt
Ditto - N/A
First met: Merrishore City
Nature: Impish
Ability: Limber
Hold item: None
Current moveset: Transform
Background/Personality:
A troublemaker at heart, the shape-shifting Pokemon spent much of its time pranking the visitors and residents of Merrishore City, Ben included. Barely two steps out of the train station and Ditto was already there, ready to swipe an item off the unsuspecting tourist. But living in a town full of mischievous Ghost Pokemon did have its perks — like knowing when someone was trying to pickpocket you.
Ben was quick to notice the disguised Ditto and chased it when it tried to run, stopping the thief with Luxray’s help. After the following battle, he’d planned to simply leave the defeated Ditto there, hoping it had learned a lesson. But Ditto was fascinated. After all, no one had managed to catch it in the act. It started following him, continuing its attempts to rob Ben until eventually he was caught. Ben had hoped its shenanigans would stop there, but alas, they continue.
Kitt is a very distractable, fun-loving Pokemon, though its definition of “fun” may not match everyone else’s. It loves to collect things, anything small and easy to nab. There’s always something that doesn’t belong to it in its hands, which causes more than a little trouble for Ben, if it’s not something he owns. Usually it is Ben’s though, because Kitt is determined to actually trip up the boy one of these days. Their partnership is more a game of wits now.
A fairly strong battler, Kitt does obey Ben’s commands — or at least, it seems to. It still doesn’t quite get the concept of transforming into other Pokemon; rather, it often shifts into objects or people. Currently, Kitt’s favorite forms are Ben’s jacket, a small RC car, and whatever object someone is frantically searching for. Though Kitt still angers Ben with its games, he still considers it a valuable member of the team. Now if only it would give him back his watch.
//Psst did anyone reserve TP Zelda when i wasn't looking cuz if they didn't I'm gonna do it (will probably change her name so as not to confuse her with Griselda of course)
They did not! So -- Zelda, from Twilight Princess, has been RESERVED! This will last until OCTOBER 17TH, 2016
Hometown: Norbeach Town, Tannum
Occupation: Tannum Region Champion
Badges: Eight Tannum Region Badges
Ribbons: Normal Rank Toughness Ribbon
BACKGROUND
It was assumed, from a young age, that Zelda would join her family as a researcher in the local professor’s lab. It came as a great surprise to her parents when, upon turning sixteen, she put in a request for a starter Pokemon, and set out on her journey. She quickly made a name for herself in the competitive battling scene, working her way to the top of the League and emerging victorious over the course of a year and a half.
She refused to take the Champion’s cape, however, despite her victory, citing a desire to join the Rangers, instead. The League granted this request, albeit reluctantly. Rumors fly that her request was due to her desire to remain close to a lover, or at least, a crush, who had recently become a ranger himself, albeit Zelda neither confirms nor denies this.
What is known is that, upon the death of one of her fellow Rangers during a particularly vicious storm the two of them were working rescue on, she withdrew from the public eye completely, vanishing into the workforce and throwing herself into her job.
After seven years of relatively anonymous service among the Rangers, however, she was called before the League and, in a matter of days, had taken up the cape, the old Champion retiring hastily in an incident that brought the media down on the young woman’s head, and still occupies the occasional gossip column to this day.
Though reluctant to wear the cape, the Champion takes her duties seriously. She has proved to be a rather polarizing public figure, with some citizens disapproving of her rather awkward stage presence and dubious ascension to her position, and others admiring her hard work and dedication to the job.
She has held the position of Champion for four years, now. More than anything, she wants to retreat back out of the limelight, to a quiet life. But for as long as the cape is hers to wear, she’ll honor it as best as she can. And that means no throwing battles. Ever.
A notable feature, and one often exaggerated by political cartoonists, is her rather large ears. She was apparently teased for them when she was young, and is a little bit sensitive about them. Childhood friends often call her “Handles,” though she seems quite embarrassed by the nickname (they’re human and rounded; just big!)
POKEMON
Gallade
Gender: Male
First met: Ranger’s Point, Tannum
Nature: Serious
Ability: Steadfast
Hold item:
Current moveset: Psycho Cut, Brick Break, Night Slash, Poison Jab
Background/Personality: The storm event that took the life of Zelda’s Ranger partner also deprived Gallade of his trainer. The two stuck together through the mourning process, supporting one another in their grief, and became inseparable, eventually becoming partners. When Zelda was called upon to take up the cape, she asked Gallade to become the first member of her Championship team, and he gladly accepted. He is currently helping her to whip its other members into shape, and is the only one of her Pokemon yet to make a public appearance.
Serious, protective, and no nonsense, Gallade never seems to crack a smile, and will not hesitate to put himself between Zelda and anything that he deems a threat. Which has… led to some awkward situations with the press, from time to time.
