flowing here like honey - chapter 3

Kit has always loved the tradition of the king. It was left to chance, with the coin in the cake, but the coin always seemed to find the most worthy to preside over the night in rulership. The coin never found a genuine king, someone accustomed to power and hosting and the duties of real rulership. It always found - the stablehand, the wobbly-voiced squire, a lady's maid. When Kit was small, it had felt like a little bit of real magic. She liked to think of the moons pulling strings like puppeteers, steering the coin toward the person who needed to rule.

Jade is the worthiest king she could ever have imagined. The moons have created magic once again.

Some folks on the Discord were talking about doing a bake-along to the fic, so I thought I would put together a masterlist of recipes featured in the first two chapters with links, as well as some fantasy food candidates that didn't quite make it into the story.

This Valentine's Day, we're not going to run a writing challenge but we are going to celebrate love. So, start thinking about the favourite moments of love you ever wrote, or the favourite romantic or steamy piece of fanart you've made, and on the 14th, share it again. Share your favourite quote or passage from it. Share the reasons why you love what you made.

Here in the wildlands, on the border with Galladoorn, Kit isn't concerned with formality. The obligation of caring and fussing and explaining feels like something she'd rather have left at the palace gates. She just wants to be with her girls, to touch and comfort and warm both of them as they need her.

A strategic mind, the Empress-Consort's mind, would consider it. A more perfect version of Kit would take into account the customs and laws of Galladoorn and the best type of comportment for the situation at hand. Kit isn't as perfect as Sorsha wishes her to be. She's just herself, tired and cold, snowed in on the Solstice with her two favourite people in the world.

Kit wants to kiss Jade every moment that she's near, and it's a want that she's had for as long as they've known each other, hidden deep within her heart. But now she knows, with the clarity of experience, how good it feels to kiss Jade. She knows the way that it lights her up, full-body. She's experienced the softness of Jade's lips, the way that Jade's fingertips curl longingly into her ribs, the soft moan that Kit can pull out of her if she kisses just the right way, and it's impossible to think of anything else.
