I’ve chosen Bob Eggleton’s interpretation of Coeurl as the grand finale for my Halloween art marathon because it seems especially appropriate. It’s an extraterrestrial biological entity from a science fiction story depicted in a way that draws from the imagery of ghost stories to create a sense of uneasy familiarity.
Coeurl is the inhuman star of the 1939 novella Black Destroyer by A. E. Van Vogt, which was republished eleven years later as part of the fix-up novel The Voyage of the Space Beagle. The novel includes other short works that had been published in magazines over the years. I have three contradictory accounts of which stories became which chapters, and which chapters were previously unpublished. Sources also disagree over whether or not the stories were altered.
John Rozum has compiled a thorough collection of Coeurl illustrations. The Fantastic Art of Bob Eggleton is also a must-see.
I hope you all had a great Halloween.
Full offense but I’m so fucking sick of those posts that are like “I hate war history and political history, I only want to read about real history like things about culture and food and textile history uwu” because…I’m extremely sorry some shitty men tried to act like weapon history was more important than anything else or laughed at you for being interested in fashion history but the truth of the matter is that if you don’t realize that war and political changes have a direct impact on litterally every single thing in a society, you’re not gonna be able to study any other aspect of history in a relevant way. It’s not like fashion, science and gastronomy develop in their own little bubbles with no impact from the outside world and it’s genuinely silly to act like they do.
(Also I’m going to scream if I see another person implying that the only reason anyone could study WWII is because they’re creepy violent gun lovers. We live in a world where people’s knowledge of what actually happened during the Shoah is getting worst and worst by the years AND we’re currently facing a fascist uprising so yeah, y'all still need to hear about WWII.)

ugh ppl from my college keep reposting this quote from lindy west that’s like “conservative politicians’ daughters, wives, mistresses, etc are always going to be able to get an abortion” and like I don’t think that’s true? why do ppl think that conservative men are like. horrific and controlling to most women but not at all to their wives or daughters? like idk it doesn’t make logical sense to me but ❤️
it literally is not true and it is genuinely just an insane thing to say. love that she mentioned their mistresses who are often like....women of color or marginalized women in a position underneath the power and control of these men. like how often do they cheat with the maid or the nanny? do they really think these men are allowing these women to call the shots in this relationship? or in any relationship for that matter? they HATE women and as we know the women men are most cruel to are the one’s closest to them.....it literally is cruel and antifeminist and fucking stupid
something else i’ve been thinking a lot about, too, is how not only do most people online not notice or care when men in the entertainment industry shamelessly benefit from nepotism and family wealth and connections, even when their work is not actually very good or actively offensive in some way, but also…. the only men in hollywood who ever DO seem to attract seething, mouth-frothing anti-fandoms don’t actually end up under fire for being racists or misogynists or rich kid nepotism success stories, but more because they’re popular with a certain types of female fan who attracts a lot of mean-spirited mocking and harassment. like maybe i’m the only one who has noticed this but with the exception of like, chris pratt and nobody else, male celebrities really just don’t attract online harassment or get made into the designated Person We Hate For Unspecified Justice Reasons meme of the quarter over their words or actions or beliefs or privilege, and those things are so rarely the focus of the way people talk about them. instead, it’s usually some variation on “look how ugly this famous dude is, you’d have to be mentally ill to be attracted to him, if you’re a fan and think he’s hot you’re disgusting” – the focus isn’t actually on men’s character or really anything about them, it’s just a vehicle for making fun of women. and, like, what else is new! but it’s just fascinating to me how much the ostensibly progressive, justice-minded, intersectional feminist social culture really delights in finding even the most specious and bad-faith “evidence” to justify incredibly misogynistic cruelty, and meanwhile when famous men fuck up or are just generally mediocre or even downright horrible, everyone is suddenly jared, 19.
anyway this is all just my way of saying that the trump administration’s internal celeb/influencer tracking sheet got leaked and finally confirmed what i have always suspected in my gut: john krasinski is a republican
