Thank you so much to everyone who loved the last post! It was amazing seeing the traction and reposts it got, and the people asking if they could solve it. Honestly I don’t know but you should definitely try!!

It inspired me to make another one with Patton, and puppet Patton! I was originally gonna do this with Virgil and his puppet, but Patton won out because of the smile and it was his idea for puppets in the first place.

This work was inspired by @jaspydunx ‘s artwork of Janus drawn over an old tv guide! I thought a crossword puzzle would be fitting for Logan.

And I’m finally done!! for now.

I think Remus is my favorite out of all of them! I was super intimidated to do him, since 1 I don’t usually draw facial hair, 2 I wanted to make him unique but also a parallel to Roman. I think Remus is a pretty difficult character to get down, but of course his design will improve the more I draw him. But seeing as I think I did pretty good, it’s given me confidence to draw him more!

Also I realized I forgot to color Janus’ lineart!!! I’m so sorry Janus I was really in a rush to get you finished..

Backstory!

I already explained my reasoning to make him a Tiefling in Roman’s post, so I won’t say it all again.

Originally, Remus was gonna be a Bard of Whispers. I reasoned that he likes to sing too, ex: his song and how he sings in one of the incorrect quotes videos. BUT I realized he’s not a secret keeper at all, and that’s what Bard of Whispers do. (Also I couldn’t reason him being the same class as Roman). But I found something perfect: Warlock of the Fathomless!!! Basically their patrons are deep sea monstrosities, and I absolutely HAD to go with that. Also I think him being a warlock parallels so great with Patton being a cleric.

I didn’t want to make him chaotic evil, since I don’t believe any of the sides are inherently evil, but he’s definitely leaning close. Pure chaotic, bordering on destructive.

Notice some details on him: A braid similar to Roman’s in his hair, a freckle beside other eye, his horn on the other side, and his tail being the shape of a spade whereas Roman’s is a heart. Remus also has two snake thingies, of course, given by Janus. I attempted to make a few moon symbols to parallel Roman’s sun, but the best I got was crescent shaped earrings and the horn cap that’s sort of crescent shaped. His “cape” is on his hip, and on the right side, it’s also in the shape of his sword symbol.

His symbol is the most interesting part for me, as it has his typical sword, Janus’ snake, but also purple hued bat wings for Virgil! (Don’t ask where the symbol is.. it’s uh.. probably on his ass again I totally didn’t forget to draw it)

Remus and his twin were inseparable from childhood, almost acting as two parts of a whole person. As they grew older, though, and as Roman seemed to take more of the spotlight as heir, he no longer had “time” for the shenanigans Remus thought of.

It was fine, Remus reassured himself, he didn’t mind not being in the spotlight. He didn’t even want to be heir, that seemed like way too much to do, so long as his brother was in his life. He’d be satisfied.

Days before his brother’s crowning, however, he vanished. No word to his parents, and none at all to Remus. Not even a note. Devastated, Remus went searching just along the castle’s edge, at the coast where he’d often find Roman thinking. There wasn’t a trace he’d been there.

Remus dropped down onto the sand, where the water brushed against him, pleading or praying to whatever would listen that he’d find his brother.

No god or deity responded to his plead. Not even a fiend, or a devil..

Something else did. Something just beneath the surface of the water, and hearing this plea that Remus whispered.

A deal was struck, and as the patron’s power seeped into Remus, his wish corrupted. He’d find his brother, and enact his revenge for leaving without a word. Thus, the kingdom lost both brothers, and Janus found his right hand man.

Janus! Honestly.. his design I may be the least satisfied with? I like aspects, like the coat and hat, but I wanted him to look grand. This design falls flat in that aspect, but, it is simple to draw.

Backstory!

Janus was a changeling from the get go. It just made sense, with being able to change forms, and I couldn’t resist. However, his class is where I struggled. For a long time I had him down as an Oathbreaker Paladin. I thought that would be the right amount of subversion of expectations while staying true to his character, but at the last moment I changed it to Draconic Sorcerer.

My original reasoning why was because he’d have scales, and that it’d sort of make sense? Also the more I watched Janus clips the more I realized this man probably wouldn’t be anything as strenuous as a paladin.

Now for backstory, for now a lot of it is unknown. By other people, not him, but he’d rather keep it that way. Only two people even know his name, but what people do know is that he’s head of a Thieves Guild. He has a particular fondness for a certain Teifling in the guild, and a Drow that had recently fled from the guild.

More often than not, Janus is disguised as a human Draconic Sorcerer, sometimes only halfway. There are very few times, and people that have seen him as his true self.

Now that the core four designs are done, I wanted to doodle them a bit! (Don’t worry I still plan on making Janus and Remus soon)

I.. sort of forgot his glasses? I realized when I finished the piece, because i was sort of mulling over whether or not to give him some, and ultimately I figured it wouldn’t make too much sense for him to wear glasses as an aasimar.

Also! His emblem is Lathander’s symbol, but with a heart instead of a sun in the middle. Also just more blue and silver than red and gold

Anywho, Backstory!!

Part of me wanted to make Patton a short race like a gnome, but the part that wanted to make him an aasimar spoke louder. I think it adds to him theme of constantly wanting to do the good, righteous thing, and being somewhat blind to the harshness of reality (until it hits him in the face)

He’s a Protector Aasimar 1 because that was kinda the only one that fit and 2 because I think he’d truly do anything to protect his friends. Because he’s an aasimar, he needed some feature that outed him as “not completely human”, so I gave him glowing eyes and glowing freckles. And wings, but that’s typical for an aasimar. He’s a follower of Lathander, god of truth light and protection (if I’m remembering correctly?). Also when using a healing/protection spell, I like to think he’d obtain a halo for a few seconds, maybe his hair glows a bit too :]

Patton spent a lot of time simply observing the people below the Upperplanes, before he truly had a form or purpose, finding himself fascinated by the joy people could spread amongst themselves. Seeing happy families were what brought him the most joy, parents caring for and protecting their children. So when he had the opportunity to be amongst these people, to spread his own joy and protect the weak, he happily took it.

Things weren’t as how he saw them, however. The place he admired for being so happy also had its cruelties, and in abundance. For every good deed Patton saw, 5 horrible ones were made just in the same hour. Patton’s mission was clear now.

In an attempt to learn more about the history of this place, of the people who walk it, Patton inquired local townsfolk as to where would be the best place to learn. All of them pointed him to a tower, apparently with an abundance of books to challenge the greatest libraries.

Knocking on the door, Patton faces not the wizard he was expecting, but a warforged. A pretty unhappy looking one, at that. Who would Patton be if he didn’t try to cheer the poor thing up?

(I know a lot of this mayyyy not be canon compliant with dnd lore but honestly I’m hut using dnd as a device for this au and not necessarily sticking to its rules. Like every good dnd player!)

Everyone’s favorite side, Logan!

You may have noticed his emblem isn’t here. Well 1: I didn’t have an idea on how to make a brain with glasses more.. fantastical 2: Since he’s a warforged, the logo is imprinted on his actual chest rather than on his clothes

Reasoning and Backstory:

Making Logan a warforged felt like an obvious choice again (you’ll find that a lot of these probably are) but I don’t want to make Logan out as some completely unfeeling robot. And luckily, being a warforged doesn’t mean you lack emotions. Quite the opposite! As the description reads, they are sentient, feeling, and a blend of human and inhuman. Though I imagine Logan would still try to keep up the “I don’t feel anything” schtick for as long as he could before having to admit he does, in fact, feel things.

Making him a Wizard, Order of Scribes kind of felt like when Virgil gave Logan a newspaper because he “likes to read”… except there’s no secret puzzle or anything I just thought that was the only subclass that really fit him. But something cool that scribes get is a sentient book, and I think that was a great way to incorporate the orange side sort of effecting Logan in the series. (Of course, when Orange is revealed I’ll actually make him his own person, but for now he’s spiritually a book)

Logan’s original purpose as an Envoy Warforged was to aid the person who built him in various tasks. The person was a wizard, a bit older and a recluse, living in a classic wizardly tower with nearly endless bookcases. Logan did menial tasks here for years. Tidying books, cleaning, and engaging in conversation with the person. In his down time, Logan found himself reading every book in the tower, and it didn’t take him long to get a hand of magic after that.

Because of their age, and being human, they died some years after Logan was built. The warforged had no clue what to do with this new “freedom”, and carried on his normal menial tasks for a while until someone came knocking at the front door.

And now, Explanation & Exposition:

I knew from the start that I didn’t want to make any of the sides human, so I was a bit stuck on trying to find a race that would fit Roman, and by extension, Remus. Elves felt a little too “prim”, and while the idea of Remus having a fake mustache because elves can’t grow facial hair does sound very funny, I landed on Teiflings. They’re a pretty versatile race, and if their bloodline is Chthonic, then they can either be seductively beautiful or grotesquely cadaverous

And when I think of Roman, despite wielding a sword, making him a bard felt the most true to his character. A fortunate compromise was making his subclass College of Swords, allowing Roman to be able to wield a sword and sing songs to support his group! I was stuck between giving him a Lyre or a Lute, but for no real reason I just gave him a Lute to start with. Also Sun and Roses motifs because that’s fun!

Now for backstory, I still wanted to keep him as a prince, probably the crown prince to a kingdom. However, puppet shows and entertainers always charmed Roman as a child, and princely life isn’t everything he thought it would be. Much more politics, not enough slaying evil foes and charming the people with his voice.

Days before his crowning, the prince had gone missing. A favored Lute and Sword were plucked from his room, alongside a few articles of clothing. The prince was not only missing; he’d fled.

Thus was born: Passion, Roman’s virtue/stage name, who’d wander around towns and learn tunes of valiant heroes who slain manticores and chimeras, while training to one day be the slayer something even greater.
