Fly on the Wall

Excerpt:
I've changed since moving to the valley. I know I write of it often, but it is a near constant thought of mine. When is it going to stop? I don't have to eat anymore; I noticed early last year that I was eating much less but still full of energy. I remember writing about it in my journal then, but now I don't have to eat at all, unless I'm injured. I'm now faster and stronger than ever, too. Even the wizard seems almost weary of me now. Am I even human anymore?
The monsters on my farm are becoming more emboldened, too. It's no longer the occasional slime or bat, but now there are shadow brutes outside my front door every night. They're normally no more than an extreme annoyance, but I had an encounter with one last night as I was heading inside. I prevailed, but the sucker landed a solid hit on my shoulder. It was debilitating, but as soon as I ran inside and choked down—

— the only thing left in my fridge. A few spoons of mayonnaise, and I was good as new. It was the strangest thing. This time last year, if I were hit like that, I would've had to take a tonic, eat a big meal, and then sleep it off. But now, a couple of bites of mayonnaise, and I'm fine? Not to even mention that if I were injured like that when I lived in the city, I would've had to have gone to the hospital. I don't know what's happening to me.
