I NEED CAULSCOTT EVIDENCE
I’m sorry for using screencaps from some of my own videos, but let’s start with the subtleties and move on to the obvious later!
First, Nathan smiles at Max and gives her a very back-handed compliment (”At least you were smart enough to keep your big mouth shut in the Principal’s office”) – but I’m thinking this is probably as genuinely nice as Nathan will ever be to “an enemy” like Max, lol
You can watch the whole conversation below… uh, only pay attention to the left side for Caulscott, haha:
Meanwhile, Max can actually also smile at him in the same scene (if you go idle for long enough):
Second, Nathan is the only one to look at Max when she talks:
Third, Max said she could “never hate” Nathan in cut audio. Please bear in mind this wasn’t cut due to a change in Max’s character, but because the asset it was attached to was deleted. This audio was originally one of Max’s thoughts she’d read aloud when looking at Nathan’s jacket in episode 5 after David saves you from the darkroom… except DONTNOD deleted the jacket in the final game.
You can listen to it below:
But if for some reason you can’t, here’s the transcript:
Max: If Nathan had more help, more support, this might have gone a different way… I think about him chilling out on the grass in the other timeline… I hate what he did, but… I can’t hate him.
There was also a second deleted audio I didn’t include in the video:
Max, looking at Nathan’s letter to Jefferson (also deleted – read below): Poor Nathan… Jefferson definitely should have burned this letter.
Fourth, the person Nathan chose to essentially send his suicide message to was Max (skip to 0:28 of the video below, if you somehow haven’t heard this message yet… the transcript:
Nathan: Max, it’s Nathan… I just wanted to say… I’m sorry. I didn’t wanna hurt Kate, or Rachel or– I didn’t wanna hurt anybody. Everybody… used me. Mr Jefferson… is coming for me now… All this shit will be over soon… Watch out, Max. He wants to hurt you next… Sorry… )
He’s willing to sacrifice his last moments for Max – not Jefferson, his real father, his mother, his sister (whom Nathan had a very close relationship with at one point it seems: read below), Victoria (his supposed BFF), the police, or anyone else who might care for Nathan… but Max, a girl who he has known for about 4 days, and who has hated him since day 1.
I don’t know if Nathan believes Max likes him too. Nathan may just believe she is most deserving of his apologies – which still doesn’t do bad for the Max-Nathan relationship!
It’s also especially worth pointing out that Nathan still trusts Max with his confession most even if she let Warren beat him half-to-death, something that surely led partly to Nathan’s demise, his inability to fight against Jefferson (although as I said, this message seemed pretty damn suicidal anyway).
Fifth, skip to 0:13 of the above video. I’m not sure how much of the nightmare scene is true, especially the ending diner segment (which is most likely to be real), but Nathan says the following to Max if you stand by him and listen to Victoria first:
Nathan: Max, I’m… truly… I truly am sorry for being such a bastard, I… You would’ve been cool to hang out with. I just don’t want everybody else to suffer like me.
Sixth, Nathan put up a pic of Max in his room:
And if you haven’t seen the official explanations behind this…

Basically, Nathan is hella obsessed and hella “in lust”, as Jefferson puts it ;D
Seventh, basically this entire post:
http://somethingsimsyworld.tumblr.com/post/138107537943/caulscott-is-one-of-my-number-one-otps-and-the
It’s my own explanation of his actions towards Max, how he doesn’t just like her because she’s “innocent”, and how he actually likes bad girls anyway (like our girl Rachel ;D) I’d re-quote it here, but that post is as long as this one and I don’t want to drown your dashboards in Caulscott forever, as nice as that may seem XD (now I’m just getting obnoxiously cocky)
And those are your seven reasons to sin, folks!
EDIT: How could I forget the eight reason?
Eight, in the alternate timeline, Max and Nathan are friends!
Nathan also expresses explicit worry for Max, apparently, according to Victoria’s texts:
Clearly then they’re capable of being friends, and maybe they’re capable of being more, especially if Nathan had “more help, more support”… I wonder if he found that in Max in the alt!timeline?
