I know I b*tch a lot on SJM's writing, but I'm not going to pretend I'm holier-than-thou to say that I only read the books out of spite.

I just have five simple reasons why her books personally appeal to me as a reader:

THE WOMEN, and I mean all of them.

A few good token male characters (Lucien, Tarquin, Cassian, Fenrys, Sartaq, Sam, Nox)

The anticipation she leaves us readers for the next book.

The symbolism of her couples (well only the few canon ones that I like)

The simple, easy prose that makes it fast to read.

There is honestly nothing more satisfying than the lovers to enemies trope. Enemies to lovers are great but lovers to enemies? Maximum pain and angst. Nothing hurts like the moment when the main character realizes that the person they thought they could trust and was falling for has been working against them the entire time and now they are on opposite sides even though they still have lingering feelings for each other. SO. GOOD.
