Lessons from The Little Mermaid
Don't give up a part of yourself to follow a dream. Your dream isn't complete unless you are.
No dishes on the counter. Accomplishment of the day.
Check out that living room folks.
Reason to be Happy Today
The feeling right after you brush your teeth after eating a dum dum sucker. Feels Great!
The desire to control others in order to create an environment that nurtures our sensitivities is a calling card of spiritual narcissism. True spirituality takes place in the holy messiness of the world
I am Content
I find myself humming all the time. Today it's a compilation of Oh Emmanuel and some new song that apparently is the fad right now. I have no idea the title or the singer but i heard it on the radio.
Proof #1 I am content: I hum.
We make a living by what we get, but we make a life by what we give.

Meet the watermelon radish. I think it's a very pretty veggie.
It is illegal for women to go topless in most cities, yet you can buy a magazine of a woman without her top on at any 7-11 store. So, you can sell breasts, but you cannot wear breasts, in America.

This is one of my favorite quotes about sexualization/objectification vs autonomy of female bodies bc it’s so succinct

Show. Don't Tell.
Something my drama teacher repeated over and over again.
I find it's not only true towards actors but living life as well.
Back to the Basics- An Ode to the Wooden Pencil
So, I'm sitting here in the middle of Barnes and Nobles book store, on thier small plateau that holds chairs and tables for the coffee drinkers, and right in front of me is a homely woman of an age that is probably younger then she looks. She seems simple: a black y neck t shirt with blue jeans of no particular brand, hair pulled back in a loose pony tail with her hair threatening to poof out around her ears. On the table sits her tall (small size in Starbucks language) tea which she has not even sipped, a stack of five books on the table practically untouched and with two wooden pencils of different sizes and another in her hand next to her; she begins to write. She has her brand new binded black, hard cover noted paper turned completely sideways and she writes. Rarely erasing, her pencils flows across the page.
I begin to feel something familiar and this seemingly homely looking lady begins to become beautiful to me. 3:00 pm on a Sunday afternoon and she chooses to write. Writing in public, referencing her books every now and again, refusing to erase her mistakes (or barely making any in the first place), she creates time to do something so unfamiliar to most. She is not writing a paper. She does not have text books, a cell phone or head phones playing music in her ears. She is simply writing. She is writing non stop without another notice or care in the world. On her day off work she chooses to be distracted by a blank piece of paper. And I am not sure why her wooden pencils mean so much to me and that, additionally, there are three of them, all used for her to choose from. I am not one for wooden pencils. The writing comes off softer then I like on the page and the words written there seem to blur when I look at them. I guess what intimidates me is taking this simple act of writing back to basics. No writing on the laptop or referring to spell check but back to wooden pencils and a lined piece of paper.
And you know what is so great about lined paper? There is always more after you finish that one piece. When you reach to the bottom of that page you have the choice to turn it over and continue or to grab yet another piece from the stack waiting patiently for your written words. The paper doesn't care what you write. It's nice. I applaud the beautiful person in front of me for bringing back the basics.
A shout out to this random woman; Thank you.
