Mini-Analysis: An Archdragon's Bite
I haven't finished my analysis on Terry and the True Heart just yet with the Holidays and traveling in the last two weeks. It should be done later this week. Until then, here is the first of hopefully many mini-analysis posts.
For years I have been trying to figure out WHY Zym was able to remove Rayla's binding back in season one. I theorized that maybe it was due to Zym "forgiving" the transgression since he was alive, but now we know it was much simpler than that.
In season 7 Aaravos shares how the only threat to his mortal form is an Archdragon's bite, which we later see come to fruition. This revelation is what also lead me to think that the Novablade was an Archdragon's tooth, which was actually confirmed back in season 5! "Ivory" is a bone, but specifically a TOOTH bone. "Draconic" is, well, dragon. Ah how I love the subtle hints of The Dragon Prince!
This together with what we see happen in season 7 implies that Archdragons have an incredible amount of power within their "bite" but more specifically their teeth. It is quite interesting because we see hints of this throughout the series, mostly in arc 2 since that is where we see most of the Archdragons.
First we have Rex Igneous. Archdragon teeth are powerful, so it would make sense to hide the map to a dangerous being where it would be the most protected. Absolutely genius. If another starelf decided to try and find Aaravos, getting the map would prove dangerous and would risk the destruction of the map entirely (When a star dies, everything burns.). Of course, I doubt the Jailer planned on a dark mage trying to find him.
Next we have Sol Regem killing Pharos by biting him. In this moment Sol Regem is blind but is hearing Aaravos's voice, so in his anger he bites Pharos. Sol Regem absolutely could have just swatted him away with his claws, but he chose to bite instead. Sol knows that his bite can kill startouch elves, and he thought one stood before him. Instinctually he bite at who he thought was an actual startouch elf.
Finally we have Avizandum killing Rex Igneous. We have seen Archdragons die before, Avizandum with petrification and Sol Regem with injuries/choking, but in this instance all Avizandum did was bite Rex. This scene was to show how strong Avizandum and his bite were, which he later used on Aaravos. A bite like that normally shouldn't kill something that quickly, so the Archdragons must not be immune to their own bite.
In an interview with the creators from Cartoon Universe, they confirmed that Rayla's binding was removed by Zym because of the Archdragon's bite. I am very curious to see what this power is capable of when we get arc 3 (we better grrr). As Zym is the "last" Archdragon, his abilities are currently the only way outside of the Novablade that can kill a startouch elf's mortal form (Last is in quotes because of the whole "unsuitable heir" situation we still don't know anything about).
So yeah mini-analysis. Much less formal and just chill thinking.
