Cool
One of my favorite parts of the Olympic Games has always been the Opening Ceremony and the Parade of Nations. It’s always fun to see how the different nations choose to represent themselves, and the happiness on the faces of the athletes as so many of them finally get to live out their dream.
Unfortunately, my enthusiasm for the upcoming games has been tainted due to Russia’s current stance on gay rights, as I’m sure is the case for many people. Tonight, while chatting with a friend, I had a thought. What if during the Parade of Nations, athletes sported rainbow knits to show their support for the international LGBT community. Imagine how much better the Winter Games would be if athletes from all over the world took the opportunity not only to represent their country, but also to represent humanity on the international stage?
Hand knits are special. They really are. They require time. They require dedication. And they require love. Imagine what it would mean to show support in that way for the people around the world fighting for equality.
This is just an idea. But it’s an idea I wanted out there.
And for anyone who may be interested, the patterns for the scarf, hat, and mittens are all available online for free.
Awesome how just doing that makes the photograph that much more dynamic
