The concept for this year’s feature café is a contemporary take on an English tradition — a multi-sensory experience of taste, aroma and colour, celebrating a broad selection of tea. Incorporating a feature installation of hand-blown glass vessels, the café offers visitors a break from the bustle of the show to relax with a cup of freshly brewed tea.

Creating the concept for the entire café inspired collaboration with key sponsors — tea by Twinings, materials by Formica and local Italian furniture maker Piaval, producing a custom-designed chair for the space.

A chandelier-inspired installation hangs above the bar, arranged at different heights. Each hand-blown vessel contains a different shade of tea. The fluid nature of the blown glass creates a liquid-like visual landscape, as though the glass is in motion. When the pieces are illuminated, light shines through the glass, enhancing the natural colour found in the teas and casting a colour spectrum through the space. Each glass piece was hand-blown by master glass blower Massimo Lunardon in his workshop local to Fabrica.

The Darling Teahouse

This stunning, minimalist teahouse is in Stoney Creek, Connecticut.  Designed by architect Naomi Darling, it features local and recycled materials to achieve a simple elegance. The stone came from a local quarry, while bamboo was harvested on-site.  The roof is made of recycled metal.” - The Owner-Builder Network

Xu Ci Shu’s Discourse on Fire.

The fire must use hardwood charcoal, which is regarded as the best material, then the wood nature is unexhausted. When there is too much smoke, then the smoke will enter the boiling water, the boiled water then necessarily becomes useless. Therefore, first burn the charcoal to red to rid it of smoke and flame. At the same time, get a strong, vigorous burning fire. The water then easily boils. After the charcoal is already red, then place the water kettle over it. At the same time rapidly fan the stove - the quicker the better: do not stop your hand. Hot water that had stopped boiling is preferably discarded and fresh water boiled again.
