Tea kettle, Michael Graves, 1989, Minneapolis Institute of Art: Decorative Arts, Textiles and Sculpture
domed tea kettle with wide base; handle with blue plastic at top; domed cover with yellow knob; red plastic whistle at end of spout In 1998, during Michael Graves's partnership with Target Corporation on the acclaimed scaffolding for the Washington Monument restoration, the architect, who dubbs himself a "general practitioner," began having conversations with Target executives about affordable product design. Walking through a Target store, Graves marked hundreds of household items he felt he could improve. His first group to hit Target shelves in 1999 included this teakettle, a variation on his "whistling bird" kettle for Alessi from 1985. This less expensive version has a literal whistle on its spout; other variations for target include a spinning and a ferris wheel whistle. Graves's blend of attention-grabbing details and Postmodern classical references on everyday objects has been a popular one for the store chain. Size: 12-1/16 x 11-1/8 x 7-7/16 in. (30.6 x 28.3 x 18.9 cm) Medium: Stainless steel, aluminum, plastic

Allen’s first ever recorded reading of Howl is getting a proper release treatment from our good friends at Omnivore Records! Digital/ CD / Vinyl & limited Red Vinyl (of course) Street Date APRIL 2, 2021.
Ginsberg’s first public reading of his epic poem “Howl” took place at San Francisco’s famous Six Gallery in October of 1955. Along with Ginsberg, the evening included readings by Gary Snyder, Philip Whalen, Philip Lamantia, and Michael McClure. Poet and anthologist Kenneth Rexroth was the emcee, and Jack Kerouac, Lawrence Ferlinghetti, and Neal Cassady were in attendance. Unfortunately, no one recorded that reading, and it was long thought that the first recording of “Howl” was from a reading in Berkeley that following March.
Before Berkeley, however, Allen had traveled to Reed College with Gary Snyder to give a series of readings. Snyder and Philip Whalen had been students at Reed and had studied under the legendary calligrapher Lloyd Reynolds. On February 13 and 14, 1956, Snyder and Ginsberg read at Reed, with the Valentine’s Day performance recorded, but then forgotten till it surfaced in 2007.
Tracklisting includes Epithalamion (later published as Love Poem on Theme by Whitman), Wild Orphan, Over Kansas, A Dream Record, Blessed Be the Muses, A Supermarket In California, The Trembling of the Lamb (published Transcription of Organ Music), & Complete Howl part 1 but then only the beginning of part II

BACK IN THE BOOKSHOP: MEMPHIS : RESEARCH, EXPERIENCES, RESULTS, FAILURES AND SUCCESSES OF NEW DESIGN (1985) • First 1985 printing of the UK hardcover edition of "MEMPHIS: Research, Experiences, Results, Failures and Successes of New Design", by Barbara Radice - arguably the greatest reference book on the work of the Italian Design group Memphis. • Written by Radice, a founding member of the Memphis group (and author of "Ettore Sottsass: A Critical Biography"), and documenting in stunning photography and reproduction the vast array of design work that this group produced across furniture, lighting, interiors, architecture, textiles, glassware, etc., this really feels like THE official Memphis book, embodying their spirit and design aesthetic in book form. • Founded in 1981, the international group of architects and designers, Memphis, shook the design world to its foundations. Based in Italy and led by Ettore Sottsass, it overturned and re-shaped the pre-suppositions on which the production of so-called Modern Design is based. It became the almost mythical symbol of the New Design. Laughing out loud at our culture and at itself, Memphis pulled out all stops when it came to colour, pattern, decoration and ornamentation. It sets out to contribute to the continuing dialogue on pop culture, the avant-garde and design. • This book features the work of Ettore Sottsass, George Sowden, Masanori Umeda, Shiro Kuramata, Nathalie Du Pasquier, Peter Shire, Michele de Lucchi, Matteo Thun, Alessandro Mendini, Andrea Branzi, Gerard Taylor, Michael Graves, Aldo Cibic, George James Sowden, Arquitectonica, Hans Hollein, Marco Zanini, Javier Mariscal, Thomas Bley, Martine Bedin, etc. • Via our website and in the bookshop tomorrow. • #worldfoodbooks #memphismilano #AldoCibic #AlessandroMendini #AndreaBranzi #EttoreSottsass #GeorgeSowden #GerardTaylor #HansHollein #JavierMariscal #MarcoZanini #MartineBedin #MasanoriUmeda #MatteoThun #MichaelGraves #MicheledeLucchi #NathalieDuPasquier #PeterShire #ShiroKuramata #ThomasBley (at WORLD FOOD BOOKS)

Team Disney. Michael D. Eisner Building. Michael Graves. Burbank, USA. 1990.
