pov: you are a gun soldier
priorities (when he isn’t saving the world)
Blaze is coded as South Asian? 👀
OHOHOHO WELL
Her concept designs can be pretty South Asian-coded first off; in the middle bottom row there, you can see her wearing Shalwar, (maybe shalwar kameez? it's hard to tell what kinda top she has) which is a popular Southern and Central Asian fashion.
Her final design includes a straight-up bindi– listed as such on the Sonic wiki. Bindi are a mark on the forehead worn by women in Hinduism, Buddhism and Jainism, and occasionally Islam (notably in Pakistan during Eid). While obvioulsy anyone of any race can be of any religion, as the bindi originated in Southern Asia, it's highly associated with that area and is worn by, well, a shitton of people in South and Southeast Asia, for both cultural and religious reasons.
Also, her kingdom: we don't see it much in the games (in Rush Adventure, they're mostly on outlying islands and ruins), but we do see it in the IDW comics.
It seems very inspired by Mughal architecture, an Indo-Islamic style developed from Indian, Islamic, Iranian and Central Asian traditions.
also. we got THIS tweet from the official Sonic account in November 2020, showing her having tea in her palace.
The caption is in Japanese, but translating it to English shows that the descriptive is literally "Indian summer with calm waves." An Indian summer is a term for unusually long hot weather in autumn, but like. Come on.
i swear there was more shit but my laptop is on low battery so like. this cat is asian
OK IT IS NOW THE NEXT DAY SO. POST PART TWO
@penosh-wom pointed out that the patterns in the Sonic Channel artwork are "VERY reminiscent of India," and that the scenery outside looks very much like the asian coast.
Another thing I almost forgot– in Sonic Forces: Speed Battle, Blaze is given a costume for Lunar New Year, as is Silver. [sidenote: I'm not sure if Silver himself has any specific cultural coding, anyone?]
Lunar New Year is associated mainly with China, but is celebrated in several other Asian countries, including Indonesia, Japan, Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore, South Korea, Thailand, and Vietnam.
also i love how many of you in the notes are JUST noticing Big in the Sonic Channel artwork. He's in all of those btw
There's no such thing as "coding something", unless it's clues to a character's sexuality due to homophobic censorship. Either a character has a certain nationality or they don't. It comes really serious to characters that aren't human and don't look human.
Yes, Blaze was partially inspired by South Asia and Middle East but it doesn't automatically make her a South Asian/MENA woman.
The same is for other characters. Sonic was made in Japan, does it make him a Japanese? No, it doesn't. Knuckles comes from Echidna tribe that was inspired by Mezoamerican tribes. Does it make him a Mezoamerican? It doesn't. Princess Elise and Mephiles come from the Kingdom of Soleanna which is a micro-country heavily inspired by Italian cities. Does it make both of them Italians? Of course not. All of them are Mobians and they have their own nationalities that don't have the same names as Earth nationalities.
IMHO, "coding" non-human characters as certain nationalities is kinda useless. You don't need to headcanon a certain character as your nationality/ethnicity to relate to them. And unfortunately, these nationality headcanons often come from nationalistic stereotypes, especially when it's done by a person who is not a part of that nationality.
BTW you are entitled to your own headcanons.
Remember that the entire reason the internet forced you to fill in Captchas for the past 14 years is because they were using your answers to train AI in image and text recognition. Of course the AI can read the text because the entire human race has been unable to use the internet without being forced to train it for over a decade. The fact that they are still trying to keep up the facade so they can keep charging for their captcha services is laughable since they have made the service useless by using it this way.
@daxite are aware of what exactly?
This isn't "conspiracy", this is all very easily verifiable information and has been for at least half a decade
not to be that bitch, but the original captcha project was used to train computers to read badly printed words in newspapers and books that were being digitized. this changed in like 2014, about 5 years after captcha was bought by google
recaptcha is not "the original captcha" project; wikipedia lists recaptcha v1 (the book OCR one) as releasing in 2007, but cites idrive.com as one of the earliest captchas in 2000. captchas based on generating distorted text had existed for a while. while it's true that recaptcha (originally) was used to generate OCR ground truth data, the "type these random numbers and letters" type captchas clearly can't be used to generate new AI training data since whatever program generates them already knows the ground truth because it generated them!
the fundamental flaw of this post chain is attributing the actions of a bunch of different people all to a single nebulous "they"
Every so often I see some left-wing journalist, activist, or politician on the news blow into the "great replacement" dog whistle and he wonders why he can't hear anything, and he blows harder, and a bunch of conservative people are holding their ears and going "AAAAaaugh my ears are bleeding."
I think the clearest example is the BBC doing deep dives into demographics and the economy every so often, but stopping at some point and saying instead "being too concerned about birth rates is racist" or "being too concerned about families is racist". Who cares if people can't afford to raise children as long as the population is replenished through immigration? Who cares about absentee fathers?
Similarly, some BBC reporter tweeted out "What is British Culture?" and she was offended by all the replies that asked "Is this some sort of trap or trick question?"
Eugenics
I just felt these tags were too important not to add @blacksasuke
The particular segment of medical racism that says ‘Black people are built tougher’ is a great example of why ‘positive’ stereotypes don’t exist.
Adding your tags, prev, cause.. yeah.

Just as we currently look upon the past with disgust when we learn that the age of consent was previously lower, people in the future will find themselves astounded it was ever 18
Ephebophilia is bad, too!!
wow could you say "i live in a u.s. western cultural bubble" any harder? there are countries where the age of consent is as low as 10 and NO you do not get to dictate what is right in their cultures
"you do not get to dictate what is right in their cultures." So... what your saying is that, if in their culture, it's fine to rape and marry a 10 year old (because it is not consensual sex ever)? Must I redirect you to science? Kids aren't old enough to process sex. I recommend a quick search on why kids can't consent. Or just... idk think?
lol okay you cultural fascist you win because i don't feel like arguing with nazis tonight
Chat is it fascist to say that children shouldn't be raped
This person literally has the “MAP” aka pedophile flag as their header, so I wouldn’t bother trying to argue with them 🤢
