Congrats to Calla Martin on winning the prize pack from Standardbred Canada on Saturday at the Mane Event in Red Deer, Alberta!
The Canadian Standardbred Network booth at The Mane Event, Red Deer 2014. So a last minute change of plans lead to Leo & Scooter staying home and Jose representing the team. Although we were sad to leave part of the team at home - it means Charlene and Kelly were able to spend that much more time in the booth talking to people and answering questions about Standardbreds. Â There are a lot of Standardbred lovers out there! It was great to meet everyone so far this weekend. :)
Mane Event in just over 2 weeks!
Where did the time go? The Mane Event in Red Deer, Alberta is coming up in a little more than two weeks. The same group that travelled to the Saskatchewan Equine Expo in Saskatoon will be making the trip to do Standardbred & Best of the Breeds demos. During this expo our lovely ladies will also be spending time in the Canadian Standardbred Network booth, so feel free to drop by and they will be happy to answer any questions you have - long as they aren't in the barns getting ready or riding. Once we have a couple more details we will post our ride times for the weekend. The Mane Event takes place at The Westerner in Red Deer, Alberta, from April 25-27, 2014.
Up Next for Team Standardbred!
So whatâs the next event for Team Standardbred? Why the Mane Event in Red Deer of course! Team Standardbred will be attending the Mane Event at the Westerner in Red Deer, Alberta and participating in the Standardbred Breed Demos! Â Our riders will also be spending time in the Canadian Standardbred Network booth (in the trade show) between rides. Â The majority of our team has ridden their Standardbreds at this event before, and are looking forward to returning to their old stomping grounds with some fresh new faces. Theyâll be ready to answer your questions and meet other Standardbred fans - come by and say hello! Once we have a schedule of the demo times weâll be sure to post them here for everyone. Â Team Standardbred is looking forward to another kick ass event. :)
Kelly & Scooter at Spruce Meadows
A little late - but hereâs a blog from team member Kelly Stasiuk about her experience competing at Spruce Meadows (yes that Spruce Meadows) with her Prime Time Scooter.
Kelly & Scooter Compete at Spruce!
After coming home from Saskatoon, Scooter and I only had a few days to reset before we headed out to Spruce Meadows! The both of us didnât really want to be out showing again so quickly; I at least was super excited to be at Spruce!
Once Scooter was all settled in I put up our âTeam Standardbredâ sign we brought home from Saskatoon as well as some race photos. People were stopping by and looking, probably wondering what we were doing there!
Saskatchewan Equine Expo Day Three
DAY THREE - FEBRUARY 16, 2014
After the challenge that was Day Two, Sunday (Day Three) was met with a refreshed team, ready to take on the final day of the expo. We started off the morning with coffee, and conversation about approaching Tim Hortonâs for sponsorship. We start every day off with coffee.
Saskatchewan Equine Expo Day Two
DAY TWO - February 15, 2014 We all managed to survive Saturday at the expo which proved to be a long day indeed with two events. Compulsory (aka Dressage) and Jumping.
After a delicious exhibitor breakfast, we took the boys into the round pen for a little break from their stalls to let them stretch their legs a bit. Â Through out the morning we had surprising number of people stop by to say hello to our ponies and learn about Standardardbreds! (The route from the trade show to the arena lead them straight through our shedrow - concerning for biosecurity, but wonderful for PR.) The Battle of the Breed events didnât start until 3:00pm Saturday afternoon, so were were able to tour around the trade show and bit, and catch a couple of the clinics, and other events happening that day.
Good Morning from Team Standardbred!
Weâre currently sitting at the exhibitors breakfast. Thanks Prairieland Park and Smokehaus! Free breakfast definitely makes getting up early a lot easier.
Today is compulsory and jumping day, so Kelly and Char will be dawning their whites and repping the Stbs in front of whatâs proving to be a great crowd. Compulsory is this afternoon. Jumping is this evening during the extravaganza.

Saskatchewan Equine Expo Day One
Day One Down! February 14, 2014
Whoa what a busy day! Thank goodness for Timmies - we were all a little caffeine dependant today.
Leo has discovered a new love - chocolate cake!

Hello Saskatchewan Equine Expo!
Everyone arrived at the Prairieland Park this afternoon, and so far weâve had a rocking time!  All three ponies went for a spin tonight and brought their A-game.  A HUGE thank you to Bruce & Georgia Barry for the team jackets and stall curtains. They look wonderful and add a nice touch of team spirit to the weekend. (Plus now we can change in the tack stall- a serious blessing) For those of you who arenât familiar with the Canadian Standardbred Network and havenât met our team yet - hereâs a quick run down: On the left, in the light jeans, and black boots we have Amanda Preston. She is here with Jose Jalapeño! Jose is a trick horse by trade but will be representing us in trail this weekend on Sunday. Amanda is 33 years old and Jose is 4! In the middle, with the dark jeans and the brown boots, is Charlene Barry. Her and Leo have just started into the world of eventing, and will be repping the team in the compulsory pattern on Saturday Afternoon. Charlene is 22 years old, and Leo just turned 12! Finally we have the wonderful Kelly Stasiuk with Scooter. Scooter is an old pro, and has established a career as not only a race horse but an eventer as well. He will be running barrels for the team on Friday night, and jumping on Saturday night. Both events are taking place during the Equine Extravaganza! Kelly is 19 years old, and Scooter is a stellar 16! Keep an eye here on the blog, or on twitter for more updates as the weekend progresses. Everything will be hash tagged with #teamstb :)

Here we go!
Amanda and I just loaded Leo with Jose and are on the road. Kelly and Scooter left a little earlier from Calgary and will meet us there. See you soon Saskatoon! -Charlene (From February 13, 2014)
Team Standardbred heads for Saskatoon, Saskatchewan tomorrow for Battle of the Breeds. Stay tuned here for photos and updates from our lovely ladies and their boys!
(We all ride geldings.)

For anyone in the Edmonton, Alberta area, our mothership the Canadian Standardbred Network is holding a trick training clinic fundraiser! (From February 2014)
Busy Year Ahead
January 2014
Holy Hanna is 2014 chalking up to be one busy year for Team Standardbred. Thankfully, January appears to be quiet, and by quiet I mean lots of time for prepping for the events in February! February 8&9 - Our non-profit society is having a fundraising clinic at Maple Leaf Meadows just outside of Edmonton, Alberta. Itâll feature a trick training clinic and silent auction.  Jose will be making an appearance with his owner (& clinician) Amanda.Â
Not even a week later, the whole team loads up to head on out to Saskatoon, SK for their Saskatchewan Equine Expo, and more specifically, Battle of the Breeds!
Following a couple weeks off, and more practice time, the team reunites at the end of April for the Mane Event in Red Deer, AB. This time weâll be doing demos and answering questions and networking at the Canadian Standardbred Network trade show booth.Â
During all of this weâll be selling Purdyâs Milk Chocolate Bars to help us make our way around to bring these awesome horses to you! Theyâre $2.00 each and can ship of out both Edmonton and Calgary, AB.Â
Obviously, this only takes us four months into the year, but we have a few more events whose details arenât quite sorted out yet. Once we have something more concrete, weâll be sure to update with all the lovely details.
