Ribbit's words were enough to put a pause to Gangle's words, her eyes wide. She hadn't... She'd never...

Was she dreaming? She had to be.

"Ribbit?" she whispered. Gangle knew of the other, of course, had passed by the door of the smiling frog with the large red X over it more times than she could count. It had become routine at this point, though she sometimes wondered what the previous members of the circus had been like. If they would have been able to get along, if they would have shared any interests.

"I-I'm sor-" The bundle of ribbons managed to catch herself before she apologized again, sheepishly fidgeting with her hands. "My name is Gangle. I don't think we've... met."

Abstragedy got confirmed, heck to the yes!

I’ve had enough. I’m not the callout type, but this individual has been harassing and stalking me for eight months now.

An ex-friend had been stalking me for months on both tumblr and instagram. I met them through tumblr’s rpc and for a while, we did hit it off but they would suicide-bait me every other week. I can’t recall the amount of times I went to bed sobbing, wondering if they would be okay. Despite my begging for them to get professional help— because I could only help them so much with my daily messages—, they refused, saying it ‘was pointless’. God forbid I take a day away from liking all of their stories and all of their posts— I go back online to a flood of messages insisting that I hate them.

After four years of this, several ‘second chances’, and then constantly breaking my boundaries I set, I told them that I wanted to break the friendship and kindly asked them to respect my wishes.

However, they block-evaded me a collective THIRTY-TWO times in six months, each with a different account. Every time they contacted me, they insisted that I actually do want to stay friends and that they’ll commit suicide if I don’t.

They then tried to contact me on my personal/business instagram (which has my face) using an alias, only to reveal themselves. They had contacted my Picarto account I used only once in 2014. They’ve created several guest accounts to contact my Kofi. I’m only thankful that I never gave them my phone number.

When I finally gave them a reason why I don’t want them in my life, they agreed to leave me alone… They broke that promise in one week, blaming their six-month stalking on ‘psychosis’. When I didn’t respond, they sent me a suicide letter. When I didn’t respond to that, they sent me an anonymous message, saying ‘they killed themselves because me’. I blocked them via anonymous message but it didn’t block their IP address. They continue to email me despite me blocking their email.

On 1st March 2026, I thought they’d finally left me alone. Until someone reblogged a meme from me, when an icon traced from my art. I confronted them, they insisted that they were just referencing my art. They blocked me, they turned on private, I thought that it was. Until I saw their main URL— my stalker, again. This time, as if stalking me for eight months now wasn’t enough, they traced my art and stole my original character that I created in high school.

The problem now? They are still VERY active in the indie tumblr rpc. Seeing them interacting with my mutuals raises several red alarms. I’m not the callout type but after eight months of this, I’ve had enough.

In the meantime, I’m filing a police report

Wow, she thought to herself, feeling the ribbon wrap oh so gently around her open hand and closing it in response, had it really been this easy? Her attempts at befriending the circus members early in their arrivals had been for naught, and yet here she was, making genuine connections with people she thought totally disinterested and worlds apart from. She stands there in awe of the person before her, kicking herself for not trying harder in the first place, staring for so long that it might be considered impolite.

Her animated mouth made a small 'o' and then broadens into a smile. She couldn't fumble this opportunity now. And so they went, hand in hand, towards the shop that was conveniently always stocked with fan favorites and run by past NPCs in a cycle.

"So, what sort of soda do you like?" She asks casually as they enter the shop, their presence announced by the ring of a bell. An NPC is busy cleaning a glass with a rag, making no effort to acknowledge them.

"I know Caine can come up with some pretty wacky flavors. I wonder what they have today?"

Among the flavors on the board today is one called 'flame broiled chicken'. She grimaces at the thought of a chicken flavored float.

Gangle noticed, but was more than polite enough not to call Ragatha out on it. A soft giggle escaped them. "It probably won't surprise you that I like sweet sodas," she answered softly. "I've always found lemon and lime-flavored ones to be too sharp. Cream ones are nice, especially when ice cream is added on top of that." She didn't drink soda very often, if she was being truthful. More often than not it was tea, milkshakes, smoothies, and so on.

Her smile softened a little. "My little brothers liked soda more than I did. Especially Ruta, he loved drinking it all the time even though Damiana would complain that they shared the same stomach and that he wished Ruta wouldn't consume so much sugar because it made him jittery."

...She missed her little brothers terribly, and she hoped that wherever they were that they were happy and financially secure. But she was starting to get off track.

"What about you, Ragatha? Do you have a favorite flavor?"

"Gangle, I... I had no idea you felt that way about me!" Wow, if she had a heart, it would probably be thumping out of her chest right now. Gosh! What a feeling!

She seems to realize that she was probably waiting for a response.

"O-oh! Um... well, if you ever want to go and get a soda, you know where to find me!"

"I'd like that a lot, Ragatha," Gangle answered with a small but no less genuine smile on her face. Maybe they could get some ice cream together too, or turn it into a lunch date? As long as Ragatha was happy, Gangle would be happy too.

And if things went really well, or even if they didn't, Gangle was hopeful that they would still be able to spend more one-on-one time together.

Caine was giving them a little time to do their own thing, after all, while he went to cook up some new adventures. And she wasn't really planning on doing much herself, unless Pomni wanted to hang out? Maybe it was luck that she ran into Gangle first?

She's smiling as she offers a hand so they could go there together!

"Okay." Gangle would be lying if she said she wasn't curious about what Ragatha had in mind. Her ribbon hand slipped into Ragatha's and loosely twined around her wrist, the silk caressing the rag doll's form in a way that was barely noticeable.

She was happy to let Ragatha take the lead on things either way. Maybe the two of them would be able to find out if there were horses in the digital circus? She did recall Ragatha mentioning something about liking them once or twice.

“It’s…fine, you’ll be fine…” He repeated the mantra, more to soothe himself than her.

Jax didn’t bother trying to explain it further. Not while Gangle was in this state of mind. It would be like…well, like trying to explain something nuanced and complicated to a baby.

He just sighed and looked for something nearby to calm her down. “What surprises are in your toy chest?” He reached into the bin, looking for things to keep her occupied.

“Still can’t tell if you’re easier to handle like this, or just more annoying.”

The question wasn't fully comprehended by Gangle, but she did recognize it when Jax reached for the toy chest. She made a soft noise before reaching in clumsily and her ribbon hands brushed against soft purple fur. She pulled out a stuffed purple bunny and held it up so Jax could see. "JJ!" she announced with a giggle.

(Yes, she had managed to acquire a purple bunny plush and named it Jaxie Junior, or JJ for short.)

It’s far too late. He’s ruined everything, hasn’t he? It’s been so long since his friend has flinched at his voice, mask contorted up in fear. They were past that, and he brought it all back. There’s…no way to fix this, is there?

Caine’s own mouth goes dry, even as his eyes fight tears of regret. His voice is very quiet, and somber. “I…it’s a magical sketch pad…” he finally says, manifesting a beautifully crafted sketchbook, that he’d made for her…more personally with his own hands. Pom poms are glued on the cover, with a smattering of different colored glitter.

”…Anything you draw will come to life. I…I made it for you.” He sets it on the floor, and he doesn’t go near her. “B…before…everything.”

He wasn’t sure if he selfishly preferred this to her being lucid right now. At least a baby’s mind was easier to care to than a traumatized adult. He’d done so well before when the little ribbon creature regressed.

A baby’s mind was simpler to tend to. Caine still stayed by Gangle, not making a move to get too close and just…monitor to make sure she didn’t choke. He summoned her a blanket after a moment, a brightly colored quilt appeared. It was incredibly soft, each square having plenty of batting to them to make them cushioned.

”Here…..are you cold?”

Gangle couldn't answer that at the moment, but she was briefly distracted by the colorful quilt that appeared. She was still somewhat sniffly, of course, but she scooted forward a little towards the blanket. The little bundle of ribbons didn't want to let go of her bee, but she also wanted the blankie.

She looked up at Caine imploringly in the hopes he would be able to help her with her dilemma. How could she hold the blankie and her bee at the same time without dropping either of them? Her young mind didn't consider the option that she could just be swaddled up in the former.

”What? No!” he exclaimed, shaking his head at the bundle of ribbons in his lap. “We didn’t….” After a long moment and an uncomfortable shift to his expression he amended, “You didn’t do anything wrong, sad sack.”

Despite the insult (or term of endearment) his tone was…gentler. “I don’t know what his problem is, but…” He sighed. “Look, not much I can really explain while you’re in goo goo-ga-ga land,” he drawled. A tentative hand slowly stroked her ribbon.

”But…it’s fine. We’re out of that hell and you don’t need him. You’ve got…” He trailed off, on what he really wanted to say, cowering out in the last second. “You know…you’ve got everyone else here.”

Gangle whimpered, but was now even more confused than ever. If she hadn't done anything wrong, then did that mean Jax had done something wrong to make their papa mad at them? She didn't know, but she didn't think he was capable of doing something so awful that their papa would be set off like that.

Then again, she couldn't really think like a grown-up to begin with. Instead, Gangle just leaned into Jax's touch. What if Papa never came back? What would she and Jax do?

A part of her was still extremely nervous about revealing the fact that she regressed to anyone else. Papa had used it against her, and he was supposed to be someone she could trust.

Eventually Gangle's hold on him loosened, but she was still sniffling quietly as she rested against Jax. She didn't know what she had done to make Papa hate her so much. Slowly, she raised her gaze to Jax's own.

"Does papa not wan us anymo?" she asked quietly, her voice soft and small. At least she could speak in complete sentences, but she still sounded so much younger and had trouble pronouncing some words.

His brow wrinkled up in confusion for a moment. “Pa…” Oh yeah, that was what she called Caine when she was like this.

You know what, fitting that another male authority figure turned out to be such an abusive asshole. One that only solidified how justified he was not to trust men.

”I uh…don’t know Gangle. But honestly…should we care? Look what he did to us. Look what he did to you, triggered you so bad he’s sent you into another ‘baby’ fit.” So maybe he wasn’t the most tactful with his language, but he was trying, damnit.

“For the best he doesn’t want us. I sure as hell don’t want him.”

Gangle stared up at Jax as he spoke, and for a moment it didn't seem like she even comprehended what he was saying. Eventually, she whispered out, "We do bad?" It was the only reason she could come up with as for why Caine didn't love them anymore, that they'd done something so awful that he'd wanted to hurt them.

She didn't want to be bad. She wanted to be good. She'd only ever wanted to be good so that her parents papa would love her. Gangle began to sniffle quietly again, trembling in Jax's arms.
