i have read bodice reapers/adjacent erotica with misogyny so bad it would make naoya zenin look like a feminist. there's this book called the golden dynasty that is so intensely misogynistic i had to keep checking if it was written by a woman. it gets to a point where you go from "oh okay this is some pretty kinky stuff, it's a bit too much for me though but that's fine" to being scared those are the author's actual views on women

you get me anon,,, like i understand a character's mindset + background influencing narration, especially in erotica where the power dynamic of it all is supposed to be part of the appeal, but sometimes a sentiment is expressed just a little too unfalteringly and just a little too often for me not to pause and check the author's name. i know we're all just trying to get off here but like. babe. are you good. what did the heavy make-up wearing blondes do to you. does it really justify you taking it out on me.

it also feels very prevalent in the thriller/mystery genre at the moment. the last book i read had slut-shaming that was truly so egregious i had to assume the slut in question was going to be like,,, the stealth protagonist who gets a sizable monologue in the final act that recontextualizes her treatment throughout the book. that didn't actually happen, ofc. she just died. and like a slut, at that.

To a lesser extent this is how I feel about heather gilmore in crochet mysteries. That series has a lot of types of women, many of whom are quite feminine, but not in the traditionally bombshell way that Heather is. I’ve only read the first five books though, so there’s another eleven for her character to be expanded past blonde hottie who want’s the protag’s man and will commit all sorts of abuses of power out of jealousy. But. The fact that that’s what the author decided to make her isn’t a good look
