USB drives not displayed in Windows 7

Yesterday and today I had some problems connecting my external USB hard drives to my laptop (Windows 7). They were connected but not displayed in the Windows Explorer. Finally I found a workaround.

1. connect your usb hard drive to your PC

2. click Start > Control Panel > Device Manager

3. Expand Disk drives

4. Check whether your connected USB hard drive is displayed.

In my case it was displayed in the device manager but not in the Windows Explorer.

5. right click on the USB device > Uninstall

6. physically disconnect your USB hard drive from your PC

7. restart your PC

Important: If you connect your USB hard drive without restarting the problem will remain!

8. physically connect your USB hard drive

9. Now the USB hard drive is displayed in the Windows Explorer

Hope this helps others to avoid spending their time!
