The "right to comfort" is a pillar of white supremacy culture that cultivates a fear of and intolerance towards conflict. This leads to, among other things, blaming and shutting down people of color for bringing up racism rather than seeing the racism as the problem.
People do not have a right to comfort and the idea that we do upholds white supremacy by prioritizing the feelings of those with power over the rights of the oppressed.

Hey guys, with so much love, and as someone with an actual English degree:
Please just use Sparknotes if you're going to do this. I get it. I do. But chatgpt or other genAI shit doesn't actually know what's important for you to know, and in some cases it might fully make shit up. Use sparknotes. Failing that, talk to someone who did read it. I'm begging.
oh my god, there's whole books series that ALREADY do that. Have they never heard of the No Fear series published by Sparknotes? It puts a plain everyday english translation on the opposite page from the original text, plus character lists with descriptions and helpful commentary.
stop using AI for things that already exist!
Hey hey, as a librarian, can I just say don’t pace yourself at the library. I get a lot of customers saying “oh I shouldn’t get too many books out at once” but like you should!!!! Max out your card, take everything we have on a subject you’re interested in, make a book fort in your home. We love that shit! It doesn’t matter if you read them or not; just take them for an adventure and bring them back whenever they’re due!
For public libraries, one of the ways we secure funding year to year is lending. Governments don’t want to fund more books if they’re not being used and the way we measure use is by issues. Regardless of whether you read it or not, whether you have it for a day or a month, if you issue it to your library card, we get the stats! It makes the library look good!
Help your local library; get books out even if you know you can’t read them all!
Literally, this helps us! Even if you loan it and return it the same day or day after. (Especially titles important for us to keep ie queer titles, books from minority authors and more).
My library doesn't have a max loans per card for physical books either. So what the heck grab a couple, walk around for a bit and try them out and return the ones that didn't hook you.
National Library Week is this month, April 6th - 12th! Go show your appreciation!!!
Spin a wheel to be assigned someone!
You have now switched lives with this person. How do you feel about this?
OH GOD OH GOD THE HORRORS
Oh this is quite shit actually, why would you do this to me
Their life is actually horrible, but I like this actually <3
Could be worse but could be a whole lot better
This is just my life.
Life's a rollercoaster, but I think I could do it even better than they did
Their life is amazing, but this is not the path for me
OH FUCK OH FUCK WHY WOULD YOU ASSIGN THIS PERSON TO ME >:0
This is so much better than my current situation
THIS IS LITERALLY THE BEST CASE SCENARIO, I AM CHILLING
Ooh, this person's life is too convoluted for you OP

My favorite Tolkien illustrations by Cor Blok in no particular order:
Bilbo and Gollum. Bilbo is the moon for some reason which is cool i guess
Smeagol and Deagol. I love the seaweed in the background, great attention to detail
Frodo serving Robin Hood-realness at his and Bilbo’s birthday party. Literally iconic
Isildur taking the ring from Sauron. Its great but I would like to see more of Sauron than just his hand, because I think he has the potential to look really cool
Pippin jumping into the bath at Crickhollow… no comment
Bilbo gives the Mithril coat to Frodo. Great poses, very stiff and awkward. I like it.
The fellowship. This one is a classic.
Gandalf and the balrog. Amazing
Boromir trying to take the ring from Frodo. I love the way he reaches for his sword, it looks very natural
Merry and Pippin and Treebeard. I like his legs and the fact that it looks like he’s wearing shorts.
The battle of Helms Deep. This one is just great for a lot of reasons. I like how the orcs in the background are just happy and sad smileys. Gimli is throwing a rock at them. I don’t know who the guy with a red hat is in the background, but I love him.
Gandalf, Theoden, Aragorn, Legolas and Gimli finding Merry and Pippin in Isengard ft fucked up Shadowfax. Look at them smiling!
Sam, Frodo and Gollum. Frodo got rid of his Robin Hood hat which is a shame, but Gollum with a beak makes up for it.
Eowyn protecting Theoden from the Witch King. The fellbeast is a crow or perhaps a raven. Merry is hanging on the side, stabbing Witch King in the leg and he looks amazing
Mt Doom. Frodo looks very chill about getting his finger bit off, and Sam is just kind of floating there. I love everything about Gollum
