Also, like- can we normalize all types of stimming, not just flapping hands? Normalize pacing. Normalize vocal stimming. Normalize tapping your toes. Normalize singing to yourself. All stims are valid stims, and we deserve to be able to use them.

You know I love how so many people are like “respect boundaries respect consent” until it’s time to respect people w OCD who can’t shake hands or be touched or when an autistic person tells their family member they can’t give hugs or when a chronically ill person tells you “no I can’t do this thing” and you think “maybe if I just make them do it anyway it’ll make them stronger” or when a mentally ill person or someone who has been abused is like “I don’t want to be around this person/thing it’s triggering” and you get people guilting them to “just get over it”

If you’re about consent and boundaries, good, you should be, but remember to keep that energy when moms of autistic kids are like “I still hug my child even tho it makes them have panic attacks” or when someone’s like “yeah they said they don’t want to be around this person cause it’s “triggering” but I’m their friend so they should do it for me” or when a disabled person says they can’t go up the stairs and you’re begging them to “try anyway”

Don’t lose that mindset, or that energy when it’s time to respect the boundaries or consent of mentally ill and disabled people.

I don’t think healthy people fully understand the consequences that physical activity can have for those of us with chronic pain/chronic fatigue.

On Friday afternoon, I played badminton in my gym class. A low energy sport, that couldn’t hurt, right? Wrong. It is currently Sunday and I have spent my entire weekend either in bed or on my couch. I have been in pain for two days now. 

45 minutes of badminton caused my hand to shake uncontrollably for nearly 24 hours. My arm is still swollen, and my hips and ankles hurt so much that walking down the stairs takes 2 or 3 times longer than usual. Not to mention what the fatigue has done, especially to my memory.

45 minutes of a low intensity sport for you might leave you a little sweaty for a bit, maybe your muscles will be a little sore in the morning. For me, and many others with chronic illness, it is debilitating. Please try to understand where we are coming from when we say we are “recharging”.

I keep saying IRL “you know that feeling when-” and getting strange looks.

But you know that feeling when your joint needs to crack? Particularly a joint in your leg, like your hip, knee, or ankle. And you’re just walking on it and it needs to crack but it won’t and so it just feels misaligned as shit and it hurts b/c it feels misaligned as shit.

I am genuinely the worst person to come to about “how to pursue an EDS diagnosis” because I got diagnosed wit hEDS while seeking an MCAS diagnosis, fully believing that I did not have any form of EDS because several doctors prior to that had told me it was impossible because I was neither tall, skinny nor stretchy.

The fact that MCAS shares the same root cause as EDS (we believe) was merely happy coincidence and the EDS/MCAS experienced doctor shook my hand, looked at how my joints shifted with that simple gesture, looked at my eyes and went “hmMMMM”
