I really just want to let fanfic authors know that you don’t actually have to put smut in your story for it to be good. 

And that’s not me saying this bc I have any problem with sex in fic but bc I feel like there’s a lot of pressure to escalate ratings to ‘Mature’ or ‘Explicit’ status in fandom. 

I see so many people who are clearly not cool with writing smut doing so anyway bc they feel like it’s an obligation for quality stories, and I just want you to know that you don’t have to. I honestly love my OTPs for their relationships, not just bc I want to see them bang.

This is why I have so much respect for fanfiction writers. Those who say that writing fanfiction is “lesser” or easier than writing original fiction clearly have not tried their hand at writing fanfiction.

It is, in fact, very challenging both creatively and technically, because you’re playing in someone else’s sandbox, not your own. There are external rules that apply to you, and to the world/characters you’re dealing with—rules you didn’t invent.

So you’re always struggling between being true to canon and creating something fresh, and the struggle only intensifies when you’re writing AUs, because you have to be relatively consistent with canon characterizations even without a canon setting.

You can’t do whatever strikes your fancy, willy-nilly, because if it has a detrimental effect on the “canon-ness” of the characters, you’re in trouble. Your creativity is pushed to the limit, because you’re pulling rabbits out of hats that you didn’t put the rabbits in! The subtlety and sensitivity required to master successful, canon-friendly characterization despite those challenges is remarkable.

I really respect writers who can handle all that and produce something beautiful. Like. They’re being incredibly creative, not less creative. They’re being clever and adaptable while still remaining sweet and humble, because their humility is a necessary side-effect of basically writing as a means of homage, of worship, of praise. They’re doing what they’re doing out of love, and it shows.

Yeah. Major respect to all the fan writers out there. <3

WTF is Theo planning/even doing with the dread doctors?! What happened to his real parents?!?

I’m right there with you in having no idea.

My current theory is that the Doctors made him a werewolf and that’s why he has advanced skills--they just gave him all the upgrades immediately. But since he’s just a wolf, and not a chimera, he’s not breaking down like the others--an early successful experiment, if you will.

Okay really dumb question but what exactly is the relationship status between stiles and Malia? Cause in the first episode of this season when he asked her "what would you think if I said have fun?" And she answered "have sex with other guys?" So they're together together? Even though we've seen no scenes really confirm?

You pose an interesting question.

I would say together together because the Sheriff says that Stiles is dating a werecoyote. Does that mean sexually active? It doesn’t HAVE to. But then there’s that line from: sleeping with other guys. Is that “sleeping with men in addition to you” or “sleeping with men like I do not with you”?

I’m inclined to say that they’re are sexually active because I think the first reading of that line from Malia is the most common way to read it. And because of the basement and the backscratching. Backscratching is particularly sexual on connotation.

You can certainly construct an argument to say that they only kiss. But I think you have to elide storytelling tropes and expectations to do so. And I’m not sure what that gets you in the end anyway.

Are they less of a couple if they’re not having sex? What’s gained or lost by deciding that they are or aren’t?

In what way do you think Scott's actions with Stiles are abusive?

Okay

Scott is an all or nothing personality, and that includes with Stiles, when he is with Stiles he’s all about Stiles but in a way that edifies Scott, he doesn’t listen to him, in fact the way he denies everything is constantly undermining, enough that Stiles gets an unholy sense of joy from proving him wrong. Stiles has to constantly remind Scott that stiles was right, but again and again we see Scott using Stiles’ mistakes against him. He blatantly doesn’t trust him or his opinion.

He notices nothing, he is probably still unaware that Stiles took a beating from Gerard and we consistently see Stiles lie to Scott to win his approval. He uses a reward and shame cycle to keep Stiles in line [he does this with Allison too] so he rewards Stiles with his presence when he’s doing what Scott wants and uses shame to punish him when he’s not, including cutting Stiles out of his circle, he does that a few times, then comes back like nothing was wrong. He treats Stiles like a given, and ignores his worries, and what kindnesses he offers Stiles are often to show himself off as a good person, like rather than accepting Stiles worries he heals his hand.

All of that is abusive behaviour, I’m not saying Scott is an abuser, because he doesn’t realise what he’s doing and it’s certainly not premeditated, but he is using abusive behaviours.
