Me and my friend testing my recording setup out. Came out alright with quality. I think I’ll capture some great moments. I have a few hours of recording space that I can save up with footage. Hopefully you enjoy, thanks ^_^
Exciting news for any space tactical real time strategy fans. Inciting that sub genre would betray that I am indeed talking about Homeworld 2! It's a remastered game that everyone has been begging for since before remastering became a popular trend, the Homeworld franchise.
This was made possible because of THQ's dissolve recently. The Homeworld franchise got snapped up by Gearbox, and it seems like they're giving their fans what had been given up on by most if Homeworld had remained in the hands of THQ.
But check out these goodies it comes with though!
As a free bonus, this collection also includes original, non-remastered versions of Homeworld Classic and Homeworld 2 Classic, preserving the purest form of the original releases with compatibility for modern operating systems.
By purchasing Homeworld Remastered Collection, you’ll also receive free access to the Homeworld Remastered Steam Multiplayer Beta at the time of release. The competitive multiplayer modes for both Homeworld and Homeworld 2 have been combined into one centralized mode that will allow you access to content (races, maps and game modes) and improvements, features and technology from both games, allowing you to play unlimited competitive multiplayer space battles on an epic scale.
Key Features:
Build and battle with more than 100 space ships
Updated high-res textures and models
New graphical effects
Support for HD, UHD, and 4K resolutions
New audio mix using original source effects and music
Cinematic scenes recreated in beautiful high fidelity by original artists
Mod support and mod tools
Bonus archival versions of Homeworld Classic and Homeworld 2 classic, preserving the purest form of the original releases with compatibility for modern operating systems
Access to the Homeworld Remastered Steam Multiplayer Beta beginning February 25: play Homeworld races against Homeworld 2 races with up to eight players on 23 maps, plus brand new game modes
This is, absolutely, news that will make my year.

Stop trying to tie in horrible shit to video games so you can write about it you fucking idiots. Stop trying to force square pegs into round holes so you have an excuse to try and squeeze a few more fucking hits out of it.
Of all the people in the entire world gaming journalists are the absolute fucking last people I’d want to get information about shit like this from.
The answer to “How does [HORRIBLE EVENT] relate to video games” is always going to be NEVER, SHUT THE FUCK UP.
What are you talking about? This has everything to do with the video game industry. I think that the article might be a bit bait, but honestly it brings up extremely important questions.
When they announced Battlefield: Hardline I already had a pit in my stomach about how they were almost making light of militarized police. It's a legitimate article to call attention to this and say "Is it really okay to be making video games where the police are as well armed as the military? What sort of precedence does that set in people's minds?"
this excerpt is from the kotaku article itself which I link at the bottom of this post
What I'd hope EA do, however, and this goes for all video game publishers, is to take the subject matter a little more seriously next time they want to approach it. There's a deeply unsavory element to casting police as assault rifle-toting warriors, one that in the wake of Ferguson - and its inevitable successors - video game companies would do well to remember and be a little more careful with.
Because now that we've seen it in action, there's little heroism or admiration to be found in police cosplaying as combat soldiers, pointing military rifles at the people they're meant to serve and protect.
That's some real shit. I'm the first to disregard much of what kotaku puts out, but this isn't a square peg in a round hole. This is a good article.

For years, Metal Gear Solid fans have been asking director Hideo Kojima if he and Konami could bring his games to the PC. Traditionally...
So it looks like Metal Gear Solid V is coming to Steam! Kojima said in June last year that it wasn't a priority, but if enough people showed interest it might be. Then in March he went on record stating it was something that he would like to do.
Now it looks like NeoGAF might have unearthed that it is really coming. It was a link mistakenly put up on Konami-Europe's website. I linked to a story by Destructoid (I like them) and I couldn't be more excited.
I'm primarily a PC game and own a PS3 primarily for games like Metal Gear Solid. As someone who's not particularly interested in investing in a Playstation 4 this news hits home. I think that MGS V is going to be an awesome game for me regardless of what it decides to do with its gameplay.
What a world we live in.
Thoughts on Final Fantasy XIV, Guild Wars 2, Battlefield 3, Planetside 2, and World of Warcraft from the past month
Notes for the week: Final Fantasy XIV isn't a very good game, but I do enjoy reading the dialogue aloud. There just aren't enough skills. I like the slow combat pacing, but it's boring and doesn't take advantage of the slow pace because there is absolutely no thinking whatsoever. Guild Wars 2 is a better game than FFXIV in terms of gameplay. Possibly one of the best MMOs in terms of gameplay, and progression is solid enough. Armor sucks though, and I don't look forward to the next area (as beautiful as they are). World of Warcraft (at least earlier areas) looks absofuckinglutely ugly and involves a -lot- more running than I like. It's extremely dated at this point and feels like I'm playing an extremely dated game. It's so goddamned muddy that I feel like I was in a fever dream when I log off. I'm going to try to grind it out and give it more time though. Battlefield 4 is fun and I can keep myself in the top three on my team consistently, but the very short TTK (time to kill) frustrates me, and the game doesn't hold up well playing alone. The sounds, gun reports, graphics, and game feel are wonderful. Planetside 2 feels extremely slow and unpredictable. The amount of action a player gets is utterly dependent on the time of day that I'm playing it. The combat actually feels really excellent, but the odds are normally tipped heavily in one sides favor. Joining an outfit is absolutely essential. Without that the game is bust. I have over 130 hours in that game since it's been on Steam.
Yayyyy! Getting back on the road again in BF4. I need a lot of practice on the newer maps and I was getting frustrated so I decided to play some small scale hardcore metro and it really felt amazing.
I ended up just playing assault the entire match. I play varied classes on other maps, but I needed short and mid range with adaptability, and considering I have almost no unlocks, assault is the best starting class for that.
Anyways, they got behind our lines a few times to A point, and I feel like I was the only one destroying spawn beacons. Their team had some recons running with bolt actions that got me a few times, but for the most part they were unsuccessful with them. On hardcore I don't really see the reason of using a bolt action. If anything I'd expect them to just run DMR. Especially on Metro of all places.
I think that I might just start recording gameplay, especially when I'm home, and uploading it and doings some AARA (after action report and analysis). I need some motivation to be productive and do creative things and this might be a good start. I'll also probably do the same with Planetside 2.
Just to point out I have a big chunk of experience doing coaching and AARA for games like Starcraft 2 and BF2/BF3. By that I mean, sit down with people (in SC2 with their replays) and go over every decision they make. Then we talk specifically about what they were thinking when they made those decisions, the other options they had, any mechanics work that they might need to work on (aiming, movement etc), and then how we can start applying and practicing it.
I've had multiple people improve drastically over a relatively short amount of time. Even in games like BF4 tactics go an extremely long way. Decision making is a big component of this game and it's one of the reasons that it feels so good to me. There are a lot of options and approaches to the Battlefield series that leave it very interesting to me.
Anyways, if anyone wants to play on origin you have my ID right there xKoshka. I'm on the PC exclusively. If you want to play some Planetside 2 feel free to add me on steam. If you want any help improving your game feel free to ask. I have a solid amount of free time available.
Review Guacamelee!
I actually really enjoyed the personality of this game. The colors, the art, the music, the characters, it all comes together really well. The game is well made and I enjoyed just about every moment I had with it.
The pacing to how the mechanics are tolled out is polished, but I do have to say that I wish they allowed things to simmer more. Every time I got comfortable with a new mechanic they were introducing another one with its own little challenge room. I would have appreciated a bit more time with each. The game is challenging at times, and gives some room for exploration. The level design is focused and cohesive, while still allowing for a good amount of exploration. The movement and the combat is one and the same and it leads to skills developed platforming translating right into the combat in a satisfying way.
The story told is a fun twist on a simple story. The world is detailed enough to give context and motivation.
All in all I finished the story in 4 hours and don’t really feel any motivation to go back and find hidden items. I might spend some time in secondary combat stuff later, but if your looking for a really polished experience that won’t overstay it’s welcome I’d happily recommend Guacamelee.

Shogun 2, Hawken, Planetside 2, Sins of a Solar Empire (w/ Star Wars mod), The Undergarden, Star Wars Battlefront II, Dead Space 3
That's pretty much all I've been playing. I need to prioritize and get through a solid amount of one of these games this week. I suppose Dead Space 3, but I can only play that like... an hour at a time.
OH FUCK! I almost forgot about FEAR 2! That game is actually really rad. I need to wrap that up before I continue Dead Space 3.
Steam Roulette - Jan 14, 2014 - Played
So, Red Orchestra 2 single player. What can I say? I think that the game is sound, and multiplayer is probably a blast (especially with a group of the right people), but as a single player game it doesn't hold up terribly well.
I think the only big issue that I struggle with is the AI. Frankly I'm happy that this exists though. I can tell that they probably put a ton of work into... well simply getting the AI working. There's actually a lot going on in this game when it comes to positioning, reacting to damage types, and dealing with complex geometry. Granted, the AI doesn't really do any of that all that well, but it does function about 75% of the time.
I don't even know about first person shooter AI anymore. It all seems like it's getting worse. I'm going to probably play some F.E.A.R. this week to see if my memory holds up, but it feels like there was a time when AI did function well enough and communicated in interesting ways.
I can command my squad, but what good is that? It's not like I've really been compelled to command them all that much. I either tell a few to follow me and the rest to attack, or I simply tell them all to attack the objective and that works well enough. I might play a bit more to see if it gets anymore interesting without getting overwhelming.
Now, the combat itself (AI aside) is extremely satisfieing. The report on the weapons are okay, but the way that damage plays out is refreshing. Killing enemies feels like killing more than other games, as opposed to "neutralizing". I don't think that the penetration modeling is very good with cover, but it's so rare that games even try to do much with that.
Inventory is a bit unclear. I don't really know how much I get slowed down by picking up a second primary, but being able to switch between a semi-automatic I found laying about and a bolt action is extremely powerful and satisfieing.
The cover system works... sometimes. It deals with corners extremely well, but pop up cover it struggles with a bit.
Graphics are alright. It seems to cause a few stuttering issues with my system, but that's on me and not the game I think. I'm running some older hardware, but I do play most games pretty well.
Story isn't compelling to me as it's told in the game. I feel like absolutely all of the voice actors from Company of Heroes (the first) were hired for this. I am completely okay with that. I really liked those voice actors. It's more just setup and briefing for the missions, but for what this game is trying to be I suppose that's totally fine.

Thanks for the read, TE Gaming

Red Orchestra 2: Heroes of Stalingrad - Single Player
I haven't had much time in this game, so this should be interesting. I haven't even touched the multiplayer honestly.
Rule is that I put at least one hour in on whatever game it picks. I'll probably be upping that to two, but I'm not sure. We'll see.
Played some Bit Trip Runner 2
Almost the entire first world. It's getting pretty late at night so as I went I felt myself degrading. I started out on the hardest difficulty and it didn't take long for me to realize that I should set it down to normal and enjoy the game. Normal is pretty rough in and of itself.
This is the first game in a long time that I've felt very compelled to get all of the gold on every level I play (bullseye withstanding). I'm really enjoying it so far, but I'm not sure exactly why I'm enjoying it so damn much.
I honestly don't like Bioshock Infinite that much
I think that the characters are pretty interesting, but not given enough time
I think the combat has potential, but falls short
I think that the upgrade system is broken and over simplified
I think that the combat on Hard isn't interesting
I think that the health system doesn't know what it's doing
I think that the loot system doesn't make any sense
I think that the vigors don't fit into the world
I know that these are complaints that have been raised before. I'm just shocked that the game falls so short of it's predecessors, but was still praised so highly by critics. I don't dislike it because I think it's cool to dislike it, but because I think it feels confused and a bit broken.
No Internet? No video game.
I had the unfortunate incident of my internet going out today while in the middle of an awesome match of Company of Heroes 2 with my good friend. “Well, this stinks.” I thought to myself, restarting anything that makes the internet go in my household. It was all to no avail, I just didn’t know what was wrong.
“Time to get into some more Burnout.” I thought to myself, as I started screwing my wheel and shifter down to my desk. So I started up Burnout Paradise and booted in. It told me that it couldn’t connect to the EA servers as I shrugged my shoulders, but then as I started to boot in I realized that it was telling me, “Oh, sorry you don’t have internet. You can’t actually access your save files without that.” I was really annoyed, because I had been enjoying that game all morning. Alright… How about Flatout: Ultimate Challenge? I had just tried that out recently. It’s a bit mediocre on the racing side of things, but it’s still a relatively fun game. I hoped on and a little Games for Windows Live notification said I was in offline mode. I thought, “Well at least there’s an offline mode, that should be fine.” Then as I tried hopping on I realized that I couldn’t access my saves in local mode… again. I didn’t even bother with Dirt 3, as it also uses GFWL, and I’m pretty certain it’d do the same thing. Besides, I wanted some arcade racing.
I understand that this is a small use case of people who might lose their internet for any period of time, but guess what? If I’ve lost my internet it probably means that I’ll want to play video games to pass the time. It’s a bit twisted that I’m locked out of the video games that I paid for by EA and MS because I simply don’t have an internet connection right now. It’s not okay. Steamworks games do not do this sort of insane thing. What’s more is that I can actually save to the local profile with Games for Windows, but it’s a separate save from the one it tracks. I’m beating a long beaten horse as GFWL even decided that it’s a waste, proven by it’s scheduled shutdown in July. That doesn’t make this any better though.
I’m pretty certain that EA still does this with their games. I could be very wrong. I’ll have to try some out to see, but I don’t feel like hunting down more things to make me upset at the moment. What’s more is that I don’t even get cloud saves with EA’s bullshit. Nothing. It’s just there because they feel like having another layer for you to be plugged into.
Fortunately not all games do this, and I’m certain that people playing these games on consoles wouldn’t have the same problems (right?).
Regardless, I’m upset right now. I want to race cars, and all the games that I would enjoy racing cars in will not allow me to enjoy my game because I don’t have an internet connection. It’s so simple, so simply wrong.
I tried playing Burnout Paradise with my G27 racing wheel today, and I cannot recommend the experience more. It turns out that Burnout plays extremely well with a wheel and pedals, even though I rarely hit the breaks. When compaired to Hot Pursuit, Paradise plays leaps and bounds better with the G27. The feedback isn't really setup for a racing wheel all that well like in Hot Pursuit, but it does exist. Using my H-shifter as a handbreak actually works extremely well and feels natural. I'm using the back right pad shifter to boost, and the buttons feel pretty natural once everything is all setup.
I have played this game a bit in the past, but wanted to come back to it later when I was in the mood for an arcade racer again. I'm happy I did. I unlocked the first batch few cars, and they're all pretty fun to race with. I really like that, if I miss a turn, there's still very much a chance that I can finish first if I pull everything off right. I've already had some very close races.
Takedowns are alright I think. I'm pretty sure that once I'm in a faster tier of cars the roadrage events will be far more fun, but as it stands I just really enjoy going fast, and driving hard. The wheel gives me a ton of control and the game plays absolutely perfect. It's not the prettiest, but it was built around 60fps performance on the 7th gen consoles.
The cars feel pretty good, if not a bit glued to the road at times. I think that's fine, and the roadmap is made for it. Lots of soft turns and the hairpins only ever take a little bit of slowing down. I'm sure that there's a secret to using the hand break that I'll have to slowly uncover, but that aside it seems things are relatively straight forward. I look forward to getting to the later cars.
I predict that this will end up being my main arcade racing game whenever I'm not in the mood to be battered by Dirt 3.
