So I just finished watching Pompeii: Out of Time with Tom Hiddleston and I need ten seasons of this or more.
I don't care what anybody will say to this or what but I love it! Of course, the fact that Tom Hiddleston narrated this and made it a journey is a bonus. However, the overall story of it? Gosh it's ridiculously wonderful!
Because tell me why I'm crying at a freaking documentary and I'm actually rooting for the people from Pompeii to get out of that situation. I mean, to be frank, I only cry at animal and wildlife documentaries. I've never reacted this way to any other type of documentary, otherwise.
The amount of times I had to stop myself from full blown crying while watching this! The actor and actresses have done such a wonderful job at portraying these people and telling what might've happened on that day, in that situation, that it's hard to not genuinely be attached to them. Julia made me freaking cry for her story. The Praetorian guard's struggle was just heart wrenching to watch. And Avianius' journey is so wonderfully told that I also cried for him at the end.
Not to mention, the little bits and pieces of Loki and his story and identity, that's mirrored throughout the whole documentary, is chef's kiss. And don't even get me started with the echo of the "Asgard is not a place, it's a people" line at the end. I had to pause the whole thing prior to that moment because I know what he's gonna say next and it's just hard.
I could talk for ages about this but yeah. This is phenomenal. The narration up to the retelling of the story by these amazing people and performers are so beautifully executed. I hope they will continue to do this again! And if you haven't watched it yet, I really really recommend that you do.
Oh yeah, I ugly cried. The Pompeii/Asgard isn't a place, it's a people parallel sent me spiraling! Avi's translation at the end? Julia, the impossible woman? I was SOBBING.
I think the reason it was so good is because it felt less like a lecture or class and more like listening to a friend info dump about their special interest.
And the 90s Hiddles pictures made so happy. Straight up giggling.
I'm trying to give it some space to breathe in my mind (and give my tear ducts a respite) before rewatching. But I really wanna see it again.
