Take The Money And Run of the Day: Good god, finally! Karen Huff Klein, the New York bus monitor who was verbally abused by a bunch of juvenile delinquents back in June, collected her $700,000 in donations today in a ceremony in Toronto. More than 30,000 people from 84 countries were inspired to send money, which Klein will use to fund an anti-bullying initiative — as well as her well-deserved retirement. [hypervocal]

Egyptian Aisha Mustafa, 19, has dazzled the physics world with a new invention that could launch spacecraft off the Earth’s surface and soaring through space without any fuel. Space is filled with a billowing sea of quantum particles that jump in and out of existence, and Aisha Mustafa proposes using thin silicon panels, spaced closely together, to trap these particles and then move against them, creating a propelling force. This innovation would make space exploration lighter, safer and cheaper than the traditional “blast off” method. Mustafa still has some design work to do, but unfortunately her research is currently limited by lack of state funding for space science departments at the university level, though her school’s science club did help fund her application for a patent.
What a woman.
One can study a flower’s parts for years and not completely understand everything about it, but then look deeper - beyond the mechanics - and into the chemistry as well. Allow yourself to see beyond just what’s in front of you and watch as rain comes down the mountains and through your tap and onto your hands and face. Stop to see that once you break everything in the universe down to the most basic parts, we are all the same. We are part of the universe and the universe is part of us. Take refuge in this and show your love and appreciation to everything.
Scamp, a former stray dog, saved the lives of six kittens that were trapped inside a cardboard box in the middle of the garbage in a square in Brazil. On hearing the mewing of the kittens, Scamp broke the box, pulled them out one by one and took them home.
CBS New York recently aired a short story on organizations working with the visually impaired to give em surfing lessons. Watch the video for the full story, only about a minute long :)

conjoined s’mores pancakes
Every Thursday is pancake day for the girls. Last week when she was eating these s’mores pancakes, Fallie said that she knows Thursday hasn’t always been pancake day, but she can’t remember what else it might have been before.
It's the little things like this that make me smile :)
this seems even more relevant tonight
The Hunger Site is run by the Greater Good Network. Every purchase you make fights famine in the Horn of Africa and combats hunger in the United States. They also have shops for other great causes as well. Check it out! -Naomi
To offer no resistance to life is to be in a state of grace, ease, and lightness. This state is then no longer dependent upon things being in a certain way, good or bad. It seems almost paradoxical, yet when your inner dependency on form is gone, the general conditions of your life, the outer forms, tend to improve greatly. Things, people, or conditions that you thought you needed for your happiness now come to you with no struggle or effort on your part, and you are free to enjoy and appreciate them - while they last. All those things, of course, will still pass away, cycles will come and go, but with dependency gone there is no fear of loss anymore. Life flows with ease.

Nothing ever happened in the past that can prevent you from being present now; and if the past cannot prevent you from being present now, what power does it have?

Puppy’s Cast Signed by All His Friends
At first, Yuki was really bummed about her paw cast, but after all her school chums signed it over the weekend, she’s feeling a bit better. ”It’s amazing what a little canine camaraderie can do to brighten your day,” said Timothy Upton, a close friend of Yuki’s.
With newly lifted spirits, the puppy doesn’t feel quite so glum about having to sit out during fetch class — her favorite part of the school day.

Would you like to save the world from the degradation and destruction it seems destined for? Then step away from shallow mass movements and quietly go to work on your own self-awareness. If you want to awaken all of humanity, then awaken all of yourself. If you want to eliminate the suffering in the world, then eliminate all that is dark and negative in yourself. Truly, the greatest gift you have to give is that of your own self-transformation.

Inspirational Motivational of the Day: Phillip Gould, terminally ill with cancer of the esophagus, was given three months to live in the summer of 2011. So Gould spent the final weeks of his life trying to find purpose and meaning in what he called “the Death Zone,” and capturing his most intimate experiences in writing and on film. “I had to find meaning in this recurrence,” he said, “had finally to come to terms with the purpose of the cancer.”

I can’t even think of a witty think to write about this clip.
What an outlook.
Nothing witty to say here either, but you might want to have some tissues handy before pressing play
