Hey! Listen: Did you know that you can be charged between $200 - $1000 dollars a year for the next three years for having no insurance, invalid drivers license, no inspection, or title on your car?
About Ten years ago Gov. Rick Perry passed the Texas Driving Responsibility Law that was supposed to punish DUI, DWI people with more surcharges, to fund Trauma victims, and the highway.
Well a little bit more was added to the bill to catch people with no insurance, invalid drivers license, no inspection to make more money. To pad the pockets of greedy rich politicians. Causing more grief and financial burdens to struggling; middle and lower class citizens.
This can happen without any casualties, no wreck, no property damage done. A simple routine traffic stop, can cause over $4k in three years (depending on the ticket). To people that don't have the funds to afford monthly insurance as it is. Have no other means to commute, and function in society.
This is an additional charge to the court issued ticket. That funds a privately owned company. So not only do you pay one ticket, for one offense, you end up paying four for one offense.
Also it is implied that driving without insurance, with no damages caused is the same as driving under the influence of alcohol. This should not be classified, as it is two extremely different offenses.
If surcharges go unnoticed due to no notification of surcharges. Then your drivers license is suspended without being notified. Over 2 million Texans are driving around with suspended licenses because of this, unknowingly.
This leaves working class Texas citizens in quite a conundrum, especially in rural areas. This forces us to choose: stay home, and not work. Risk losing employment, as well as sacrificing income that is used to support our families. Due to not having legal transportation, or driving with suspended license. Risk being caught that can lead to possible arrest, jail time, ticketing, and even more surcharges for the next 3 years (in addition to your other surcharges.)
Please be aware, this can be happening to ANYONE! We need to repeal this law, because it does more harm than good to Texans.

(MSB Municipal Service Bureau this is the private company that can suspend your license...PRIVATE company!! Not constitutional!
