Fall: Disarming, thrives but feels guilty about it and therefore misses out on a lot of enjoying any of it, studies people as art in every way, finds beauty in the imperfect and in the perfect, competitive (sometimes to the point of cruelty), can't swim, inventive, curious, plays music, struggled to get away from home and did drastic things to do it, doesn't want to go back, doesn't blame people and will always try to understand where they're coming from, open minded, perfectionist, lost her way for a while, might be addicted to fear.

the last few centuries of french history involved, amongst other things, a concerted effort to establish "french" as a legitimate country and cultural identity, and crucially as a language, which sounds like an absurd statement if you know nothing about the languages of france. french is a language, yes; it exists and existed in the late eighteenth century. but it was limited primarily to the north of france and was certainly not spoken or even understood across the country. other languages within france were banned and french was enforced following the french revolution and even to this day other languages indigenous to france have very little legal protection and are not recognised as official languages.
that's just one country in europe. one. and many people straight up have no idea about any of this!
did you know france has celtic languages? breton is the only celtic language spoken outside of the british isles. did you know france has germanic languages? alsatian, for example, is spoken in the east of france, unsurprisingly in alsace. it's not even the only french germanic language. did you know france has a number of languages and dialects known as langues d'oïl closely related to french? norman and picard, for example, are spoken in the north of france. did you know that france has gallo-romance languages? franco-provençal (which has a number of dialects) is spoken in the east of france, as well as parts of switzerland and italy. did you know that france has a language most closely related to catalan, the langues d'oc? occitan is spoken in the south of france and has a rich literary history. did you know france is home to basque, or rather euskara, a language isolate which predates indo-european languages? romani dialects! corsican! so much more than just french! there are even extinct jewish dialects of occitan! extinct langues d'oïl like angevin! so much linguistic diversity and all anyone talks about is french.

As a Daniel enjoyer, can I just say, the racism is the point. The ableism is the point, the bag on her head as she cried, the student used aggressively, the estranged daughters. This is a boomer monster. Remember how he lectured Lestat's head on having carved out a path for himself? That's boomer talk. You dislike him by design, because he is a bad person and I'd never seen a so thoroughly boomer evil on tv, it's very interesting and timely, you just gotta understand that it's not a blind spot in the writing, it's intentional. Just like it's intentional that Armand torture Louis, and the shockingly evil ugliness of that. The ugliness of incest, of murder, nothing is sanitized.

You Are the Ghost in This House is a little slow-paced, but it’s got very gothic, descriptive, Shirley Jackson vibes. Two women move back in to the rotting Manor House where they grew up. Obviously, the house is haunted.
The Silt Verses follows two worshippers travelling along a great black river, on a pilgrimage for an outlawed god. Just brilliant.
The Holmwood Foundation is slightly more fun and Scooby-Doo feeling, but still very dangerous. Also, it’s got two leads, and only one is a woman. In this modern-day sequel to Dracula, two staff members of a vampire research foundation go on the run across the Yorkshire moors after their workplace (and everyone in it) is destroyed. They don’t have their phones, they’re possessed by the ghosts of Mina and Jonathan, and they’re carrying Dracula’s disembodied head.
Mockery Manor is a mystery, but it’s fun and murderous and spooky. The villain is MESSED UP. The two protagonists are twin sisters, spending their summer working at a weird UK theme park.

Alice Isn’t Dead is a great horror about a truck driver searching for her wife across America. Made by Night Vale Presents, it’s got an amazing story and loads of strange, unexpected events.
There's also Unwell, a podcast in which a remote customer service worker moves back in with her estranged mother to care for her after an injury, and weird things are happening in her family boarding house.
Ttrauma doesn't make people brooding and mysterious and dramatically sad all the time. That's the movie version. Real trauma is your character flinching at a sound and not knowing why. It's them being completely fine for weeks and then not fine at all because of something small and stupid like a specific smell or the way light came through a window. It's not a personality. It's an interruption. It arrives uninvited and it doesn't care about your plot. Write it like that. pls.
