I keep going back to reread PHM and all my wips/personal projects rn are just redrawing my favorite parts

their designs from the book and the movie have just merged for me atp... drawing them both is becoming second nature to me sobs

most unrealistic part of PHM is that there is no way that dr. ryland grace, PhD, would not have a flock of suitors following him everywhere he goes. that man is like catnip for academic shut-ins, alien enthusiasts, odd women, and gay people everywhere, as this site has clearly demonstrated

now I’m NOT saying he should have had a partner on earth or whatever because I do think it’s awesome that he’s (implicitly at least) aro/ace/both, but it would have been a great aside to see the cloud of yearning that follows him everywhere which he either has to deal with or has decided to be permanently ignorant of. like the comedy potential of objectively the most fuckable man any of these strange science geeks have ever met being like oh um :) thanks for the coffee and the flowers and stuff and you guys are all so nice to me it’s great to work with you all :)

Love the soft, curious moments of them sharing about their own cultures, biology, etc. I do think Rocky would have a field day when Grace explains skin as a very sensitive and permeable organ with lots of stuff packed tight on the surface. Since goosebumps are very tactile, I thought Rocky would enjoy hearing those.

Also, bonus.

Because it is endlessly entertaining to me to consider how deep in the trenches Rocky is.

Abandoned WIP because I wrote myself into a corner :( came back after a couple of months hoping for fresh mindset but no dice

Basically the concept was the pebble’s projecting their parent issues onto Grace, their parent was on the Blip A and died so the pebble was like “why didn’t you stay for your students if they were better would you have stayed”

The thing is this story could be resolved if I let Grace tell the pebble that he didn’t choose to go on the Hail Mary. The pebble would’ve approved, and that would’ve an in for a lesson about different types of bravery and introspection about the way things turned out. However comma. There’s no way in a million years Grace would trauma dump onto a kid.

Tldr pebble attempts to figure out why their parent chose to go to space, author fails miserably to resolve this

Rocky being so bossy abt self care (in a good way /pos) makes me wonder if he’s the same with Adrian. Did it become a habit on Erid first? Adrian takes care of the dome and its environment, I wonder if any science adjacent job just makes people absorbed in their work… I’m off track I want Rocky to take care of his lovely partner when he notices they’re overworking. He is a little bastard but he is so full of love. He also likes that Adrian is sweet and understanding of his attitude bc they know he’s worried and wants the best for them. Rocky’s sarcasm will not hide his affection, he is so in love

Rocky dragging Adrian back home to rest up and saying they’ll take care of it together when they’re awake. No need to stress alone

Don’t let Grace and Adrian work together they’re going to wonder why they’re so stressed when neither have taken the time to eat or rest in ages. Rocky is building the best security lock for the lab till he’s made sure they’re taken care of. Poor rock. He loves his sweet and lovely mates but they are a mess in their own ways. (Rocky of course has no issues at all, obviously, he is so healthy) (< Rocky is saying that while visibly shaking)
