Sometimes I have to sit and look at my reference window absolutely appalled because like…WHO LET ME DRAW THIS 😭😭😭 I cannot fathom the original piece being a less year old. Holy cow.
I’ve been prepping a LOT for artfight again now that I’m on the last leg(ish) before the season. Lesley is the last character on my serious addlist this season so after that I think I can lay low….maybe. But I have some gen ed classing I’m taking DURING July so I fear it’s actually over for me 💔💔 Artfight season will be triple hell
Anywho!! Here’s the two completed side by side. Crazy facelift…originally this was just going to be a slight adjustment redraw but the first version in October was just. unsalvageable. I had to resketch the entire thing 😭
We’re back at in the “let’s redraw an old artpiece” phase again….as much as I overdo it it is SUCH a fun exercise to track growth and artstyle development 😞
This one in particular was from 2023! Looking at these side to side, there have been a TON of gradual improvements I think. My line weight, saturation and general coloring is MUCH better than before to me, anyway. On top of that, you can kind of tell where I became comfortable exaggeration wise!!
In this comparison as well—there’s minor tweaks that make it look more visually striking..but I can’t really put my finger on it. I just thought it was a fun little thing to share lol
(You guessed it) More pagedolls for artfight…again…the Cea one is a bit older, but I think the quality difference kind of makes that obvious LMAO my artstyle went through some minor tweaks these past few months especially
Who’s the best, most in depth, most interesting and dramatic oc you’ve ever thought up?
OUUH I’d reeaally have to think about it. A good amount of my ocs have some kind of melodramatic element baked into their core character or backstory.
The thing is I’m able to come up with great concepts—but the execution half usually falls flat. From a concept standpoint, maybe Lovell? A vampire hunter using a thurible filled with garlic based incense to disorient them is SO fun and I need to get back on the writing grind for that story in particular. What a cool guy.
In the dramatic section, things get a little more tricky. I eat up tragedy 3 meals a day—so I’ll just go down the list of some of my favorites.
- Kelis is a BUNCH of my personal favorite tropes mixed together! The death-loop thing is for sure a contender for worst (in the sense it would SUCK to deal with) abilities/attributes I’ve given a character. There’s also the circumstances that led to his first death, and the lover he was separated from and still desperately tries to find. Kelis trying to consistently recall his face through recreating it in different art mediums, never depicting a fully “accurate” representation of him?? More of that. You’ll notice I play around with doomed lover tropes VERY often…unfortunately…
- Cea’s the other one I think I’ve seriously fucked-over. In a way, Kelis and Cea are written very similarly on purpose? It gives them something to bond over, I’d say. Cea ALSO is reanimated from death (under a different manner than Kelis, thankfully) but it’s more the weight of responsibility that causes her grievance. At least in the first half of her life. After Ageis dies—which, does happen WAYY later on as though Ageis’ lifespan is still pretty long, she isn’t immortal—Cea becomes a lot more of the “dramatic” category I’m thinking of. The idea of mourning someone for longer than they’ve been alive…YEOWCH!!! I’ll still eat it up every time.
- Milton and Adonis (who you still might be familiar with?) also make this list in the sense that it’s not really a saddening story, but HOO BOY is it thick with theatrics. Specifically from Adonis’ viewpoint and recollections of Milton, he’s a very strange fella. Still haven’t finished writing that one act by the way LMAO
But yeah! That’s enough rambling from me I’m sure. Hopefully that answers your question, a little?
