You actually cannot skip to being good at a creative endeavour that you haven't put much practice into. You cannot trick your way out of the 'knows that your work is not what you want it to be but don't know how to improve it' stage by planning or reading or talking about it really really hard. At some point you just have to craft through it until your brain finds it's own unique way back to the 'everything I make slaps' stage and be prepared to start the cycle all over again. You just have to make that project you're excited about slightly less good than you want it to be. (Says this standing in a pool of blood and covered in blood and also coughing up a little blood)

So I don't even go here, but Transformers is my fandom-in-law via @terrah-lee and it comes up in conversation quite a bit.

A couple months ago we got on the topic of the animal transformers, and the concept of "what would a jellyfish transformer look like" came up. I, in my creative hubris, thought that sounded like a fun character design challenge, and decided to give it a go. You know, me, the person who has never drawn a single transformer in my life.

Long story short, it took QUITE some time, but I'm pretty happy with how it came out. Now is it a good Transformers design? Fuck if I know. But I like the shapes and colors and am content to leave it at that.

Undeniably bubbly, what began as playing up a playful persona to put people at ease has, somewhere along the line, turned into a game of seeing how dumb she can convince people she is. Behind the mask, she has a sharp sense of observation and a keen mind for chemistry. While she does produce a natural paralytic, she has supplemented her stores with a variety of homemade drugs and poisons.

Re-watching 2012 is very much reminding me that I'm a Mikey fan not so much in the sense that I think he's a fantastically-written character in the text of the show (it's complicated), but instead that I think he's a character whose potential was brutally sacrificed on the altar of low-effort humor and plot contrivance by the writing decisions and that fascinates and aggravates me in turns.

Which is a difficult position to be in when it comes to talking about him. Like yes in-universe he is dumb and careless and constantly wrecking things and that is annoying; however have you considered the nature of the common humor of that era, the commercial nature and target demographic of the show and how that affected the structure of the show, the vast differences in narrative framing between characters, and the fact that every single thing he does is a choice that somebody made?
