i mean that most women engage in disordered eating habits. what is unclear about that? how many women do you know who DONāT binge, purge, fast, restrict, go on diets including fad diets, go on cleanses including juice cleanses, count calories, count other things they can use as proxies for calories, count the calories they burn, peg their food intake to something other than hunger, use food to control their emotions, treat food as something they must earn and donāt always deserve, exercise compulsively, restrict or eliminate certain food groups based on nutritional pseudoscience, categorize foods as good and bad, experience feelings of self loathing based on what theyāve eaten, or use their abstention from food and control of their bodies and therefore food intake to attain feelings of purity, transcendence, or fulfillment? donāt try me.

Thatās actually a really intetesting intpretation of it I hadnāt thought of. Most people seem to think Athena turned Medusa into a gorgon as punishment for defiling her temple, but thinking that she did so to protect her from being abused again is interesting and I like it!
Athenaās hands were tied. Yes, she was a powerful Goddess, but she was very much a woman in a āboys clubā, and the true offending party (donāt think for a moment that Athena blamed Medusa for being raped in the temple, Athena knows better) held all the cards. There was nothing that Athena could do to punish the true criminal, and she was expected to punish Medusa by everyone else. Whatās a Goddess to do when she cannot punish those who need to be punished and is expected to punish not only the truly innocent party, but her most beloved follower? Use that incredible brain power she had to protect Medusa at all costs, and of course the men would see it as punishment, to be have her beauty stripped from her and sent to live in the shadows. Medusa should have been KILLED for supposedly defiling the temple, whether she truly did or not, but she was given the gift of life, and the ability to protect herself and her daughters (who she bore thanks to Poseidon). This is why Medusaās image was used to signify womanās shelters and safe houses.
Medusa means āguardian; protectressā, and she was.

Maybe Iām biased because I make my own clothes, but skirts are better than trousers because you can put bigger pockets in skirts. With trousers, youāre limited to the size of your leg but with skirts you can just fill it up and people will just assume youāre wearing a petticoat until they hear the crunch of the Dorito bags.
Just once Iād like the see an historical heroine be asked if it bothers her that she has to wear skirts and have say,Ā āNot really. I couldnāt fit this in a waistcoat.ā and just pull out a loaf of bread or something and start eating it right in front of the baffled male lead.
It would work great in the 1700s with those removable pockets, you could fit a couple of Italian loaves in there.

One way to look at the transfiguration of womenās tied-on, capacious pockets of the mid-eighteenth century into the early nineteenth centuryās tiny, hand-held reticule is to consider that this transformation occurred as the French Revolution, a time that violently challenged established notions of property, privacy, and propriety. Womenās pockets were private spaces they carried into the public with increasing freedom, and during a revolutionary time, this freedom was very, very frightening. The less women could carry, the less freedom they had. Take away pockets happily hidden under garments, and you limit womenās ability to navigate public spaces, to carry seditious (or merely amorous) writing, or to travel unaccompanied.

These breathtakingly intricate miniatures are the work of Japanese artist Kiyomi, a mother of two who manages to find the time to dedicate to her hobby sometimes even waking up as early as 4 AM.
Kiyomi is clearly inspired by the early industrial age, which she recreates with remarkable accuracy in her models. From tiny hats and shoes to sewing machines and even a bakery, stocked with brightly colored cakes, her work takes you back in time to Victorian England or Revolution-era France, it will make you wish you still had that dollhouse!
