Frogging yet again
It's so close to correct but the neckline is coming out a bit boxier than I would like so it could benefit from some adjustments. I know exactly how to fix it at least.

The best thing about designing your own knitwear is you can fully customize all the proportions
The worst thing is you have to actually make decisions about all of the proportions.
I’m working on my anatomy outfit so I’m reposting all my anatomy art!!!
Thought I had about my life today that feels equal parts stupid and profound: there is a light on the horizon. I hope it's not an angler fish.
More swatches.
Going to go with the right one that has a more gradual size change which was made possible after blocking the light green swatch and discovering the decreases I added to accommodate the larger stitches were unnecessary. The middle swatch which pushed the size further is interesting but the tension starts to get a bit wonky and the gap in the middle of them is a bit too large for a sweater for my taste.
I'm also amazed at the gauge difference between the light green and dark green swatches. There the same needle size and both fingering with the dark green being slightly thinner yet the dark green gauge noticeably larger. I'm guessing it's the fiber difference, light green is a merino nylon blend and dark is %100 bfl. I don't think I've ever had such a clear difference from such similar yarns before and if anything I would have expected the dark green to be smaller. This is why we swatch.
We're going to ignore the things I said I would do that I still haven't done and instead celebrate the fact that I think I've finally figured out a way to do this drop stitch pattern that both has good tension and isn't massively fussy to do.
Now the only thing I'm debating before I set off on drafting a sweater with this is if I want this to be the full pattern repeat or if I want to make the repeat longer so the largest stitches get even larger. Probably should just make another swatch to see as this isn't even the yarn I intend to use and while the gauge should be pretty much the same I probably should actually confirm that
the last 2 films you watched just fused, is it good?
yes
no
actually yes?
it's so bad that it's funny
awful bruh

Wake up dead man and The Muppet Movie. I've said it before (not on here) but I'd watch a Muppet adaptation of basically any story and I think a Muppet murder mystery would go hard.
Made another of my bismuth cowls to use up some scrap yarn. Working on finishing up the matching hat and getting the pattern finished. I should have a test ready by the end of this weekend and while I'm notoriously bad at meeting deadlines like that I'm posting about it to hopefully hold me accountable.

do it scared. do it stupid. but most importantly, do it bitching and moaning the entire time
I have come across a website full of knitting patterns that are so incredibly up my alley. I adore modular knitting design because they're both satisfying to knit and open up such interesting designs possibilities and I don't see it done often enough. Tragically these only sold as kits which for several reasons makes buying them not at all practical for me but just look at them
Finally had an idea for my mini quilt swap! My swap partner likes knitting too so I thought I'd try out a raw edge applique of knitting 🤔
I think i accidentally purled a row here but im liking how the stitches fit together and think I'm ready to go all in and cut all my fabric!
I'm starting the think the fabric i had picked out isn't high contrast enough (the way my practice ones were) but now i have to wait until after the holiday to go to the stores and find something better 🥺
Its coming together 😎
The green and purple one will now be my practice lol
My quilting stitches are so wonky 😭
They're done! Still debating whether I want to start over again so I can get those quilt stitches even 🤔
Little experiment. I wanted to see If I could make this drop stitch technique get larger and smaller. It has potential but the proportions are off and won't have much practical use unless I can tighten it up because there are pretty significant holes when any tension is on it.
Some people care way too much about the way others choose to knit so I'm here to tell you:
Experiment
Break all the rules (you'll learn a lot even in the cases where it turns out they were good rules)
Keep what works for you
Pay no mind to people who tell you it's wrong if you are happy with your results.
Your enjoyment of the hobby will always matter more than anyone else's opinion.
in 2026 DO NOT ask yourself whether your art is GOOD
instead ask:
is it SINCERE
was it CATHARTIC
was it FUN TO MAKE
is it MADE BY ME
and don't forget to stay silly
Knitting patterns: fingerless gloves with cool thumbs
"Coolness" is arbitrary but I was looking for thumb-centric construction, thumb shaping integrated into the pattern very smoothly, and other neat thumb tricks. All links are Ravelry. Feel free to add more!
Poinsettia by Sybil R also on tumblr as @sybilra and inspired this whole post
Green Thumb by Diana Foss
Zimtstern by Sybil R
Mitred Mitts by Sybil R she specialises in these, okay?
Mondrian Mitts by Galina Zapletnuka
Pieces of Eight by Sybil R (photo by cfrischknecht; the original version of this post linked to a German translation of this pattern by a different creator without realising it was a translation)
Montes by Šárka Dvořáčková
Frosted Glass by Lola Johnson
Either/Or by Lee Meredith
Kontrast by Uwe Nawratil
And I've hit the image limit but there are many short row patterns with nicely integrated thumbs such as Mixed Wave Mitts by Sybil R (again) and Ganmil by Heidrun Liegmann.
finally took some better pictures of my last sweater project! I made this one while coping with an extended injury/surgery/recovery process over the summer, so I put a lot of time & attention into it. long-winded details and some more photos under cut....
