Hey Ros, it's so exciting to hear that you plan to continue Incendiary! I've missed it so much and have often thought about the story and how it could continue. As a matter of fact, missing it made me finally gear up and start writing a story of my own that has been in my head for a while. I'm almost done now but just like any writer, I'm not quite happy with the quality of my manuscript. A while back you had posted writing materials that helped you in the writing process of Incendiary but I couldn't find the ask anymore. Would you mind posting them again? The ones you shared recently about filtering and melodrama were really eye opening. To me Incendiary is perfection so if my writing could get even a bit closer to yours, I would be so happy.
Omg! This makes me so happy, I love that you started writing! The fact that you're almost done with the manuscript is such an accomplishment. I do still have those resources. I went through my bookmarks and plucked out some favs so I can also add a few more:
Story Planner has a list of different outline possibilities based on what stage you're at (new idea, developed idea, in-depth knowledge).
Here is an article from the Story Grid website about the Heroine's Journey. If you go to the resources page and scroll all the way to the bottom, there are posts and info on all sorts of interesting categories.
Reedsy is a good resource. Here is an article on Reedsy about one of my favorite ways of looking at story, Dan Harmon's story circle
This article on Mythcreants argues all stories can be broken into a throughline, which is basically the very simplest level of plot. Mythcreants in general has so much helpful info.
KM Weiland's website, mostly I use the info on Character Arcs
An Overview of Writing Tips from the Odyssey SF Writing Workshop contains amazingly helpful info on editing.
Editor Ellen Brock's Youtube channel. Her four video series on writer/outlining types are some of my favorites but she also has a lot of great videos on story structure and editing.
If you want to get help being more concise at the sentence/prose level, you can put passages into the Hemingway Editor
And finally, if you want to gamify fast drafting, get words out fast, and stop overthinking: The Most Dangerous Writing App deletes what you've written if you stop adding words for too long.
Hope some of this is helpful! Good luck with finishing the rest! :D
