“Oh, I’m going to pretend that I didn’t hear that, nope. I heard nothing.” The blonde said quickly, feeling the ethical need to rant brew up inside her. Instead the hero cleared her throat “I suppose we just have to do what we have to in times like this”

Thana let out a laugh. A genuine one, one that took her whole body to get out. “Alright, you do remember I’m a necromancer and I need to use my power to fight right?” She asked. “What was I supposed to do, bare knuckle brawl? I mean, I’m getting better at manipulating the fossils in concrete, but it still takes a hell of a lot of energy out of me.” She said.

“Good, thats how it should be.” she then raised her eyebrow at the sudden comment “Um, quick question….Where did you get the bodies from, or am I best just not asking at all?” she wondered, her head tilting, she was hoping that hospital hadn’t been robbed again. That’s be a hard one to explain to the media.

“Nah, mostly no names from St Marks, Green-Wood, and Trinity.” Thana said. “All skeletons and unless someone has a reconstructor on staff, unrecognizable to the common man. I don’t usually deal in the recently deceased, too much work.” She added.

“Right, well I’m putting my trust back in you. I’ll be having this exact same conversation with Heidi when I see her too. Just so that it is fair” she noted, then pausing as she realized that she sounded like such a mom with her words “You’re right, I think that family have more money than sense at times. But you did not hear that from me”

Thana laughed and nodded. “My lips are sealed, she’ll never know.” She said. “And thanks, wanna come help me put bodies around the tower? Or do you have some maps to go study?” Thana asked. She picked up her weapons which did include a couple swords, a mace or two, and at least one spear.

“Skeletons I can accept” The blonde admitted after a moment, giving a soft smile to the girl “Just no more people like the mayors wife, no one that high profile” she offered, before smiling at her softer “I should hope so, though I’m sure you might feel the wrath Fawna when she takes a look at the books, but until then…I’d say enjoy them”

Thana grinned. “That’s all I use, you have my word, no more high profile... or really any profile, permanent risings. I don’t like doing them.” She said. “Eh, Fawna won’t really notice. It’ll get buried in all the other charges.” She added.

Liberty admittedly didn’t look too filled with confidence at the others words and set her hands on her hips. “I certainly hope not, because I do not want more people rising from the dead. Sometimes death is the end that needs to not be tampered with. Let’s just call this last experiment a write off, no need to improve on it. I’ll sleep so much better” she then sighed softer, deciding to let up on her. 

Thana nodded. “Can I still raise skeletons?” She asked. “Otherwise I bought $110 worth of swords and spears and a couple of maces for nothing. I still wanted to plan on setting some skeletons around the forcefield, reenforce my brother’s shop, and perhaps just.. for my general use to place around the city.” She rattled off on her fingers. “Don’t worry, charged it all to the Livingstons.”

“Yet” she pointed out, holding up a finger to stop the girl in her tracks “Because you have no idea what could happen, this could start the Apocalypse for all we know, Thana” she sighed, even if the idea was probably ridiculous to voice. “You’re sure about thay, Thana? Because right now I honestly don’t think I can handle anymore completely wild rides, especially since a huge one is already awaiting us right outside of these tower walls.”

“I’m certain, trust me.” She said with a small smile. “Okay, maybe trust is too much to ask right at the moment, but I’m not holding anything else hostage. Other than my personal things that not even my mother knows about. It’s safer that way.” She added. Her cuff itched, and with that her tattoo.

Liberty kept her lips pursed firmly as Thana spoke, her eyes only filling with rage “What even possessed you both to try, these things can work and clearly this hasn’t worked as well…I should bang both of your heads together for this” she then took a breath as she tried to calm herself down. “What you have both done, this could either end the Union or save it. I suppose we need to wait and see how forgiving Cynthia is on this. Now tell me, is there anything else that anyone is keeping from me, just so I know before my head explodes” 

“Listen, she’s not eating anyone, she has her language faculties back and she seems to remember her life prior to her death, I reckon that’s pretty successful.” Thana argued. “I wouldn’t have even humored the idea if I didn’t think it could work at all.” She said. “And no, I’m not keeping anything else from you. One possible career ending secret is enough for me.” Thana joked.

Thana was marching to her room, her earbuds blaring some shitty punk song when Liberty’s voice broke her concentration. She yelped and dropped the notebook she was holding. She tore an earbud out and picked up the notebook as she wandered over. At the information that Liberty knew about Carol, she paled. “Oh that? Well, I can imagine why that would smell like me since I am the resident necro and Heidi has the whole “soul walker” thing. But Carol was only mostly dead. Extremely dead would be unmanagable even for me.”

“Oh my God, back up. You’re actually admitting to- Jesus Christ” The blonde gripped her temples and groaned out in loud annoyance as she only felt another weight add to her stress of things. She almost felt dizzy and in need of sitting down “So, you break into a morgue, steal the body of…The Mayors wife.” she stammered “If her wife has only just made her way back to her, where was she being kept-” she then paused and widened her eyes as she put two and two together. “HERE?!”

“Technically Heidi broke in, I just wandered through an unlocked door.” She said trying to keep herself at ease. If she joked, she’d be okay. At the exclamation as Liberty realized that they’d hid Carol under her nose Thana rolled her eyes. “It was a necessary percaution. Should anything had gone awry, we would’ve been able to put her back down without any fuss. I’m actually fairly impressed she went back on her own that bodes well...” Thana said. She was fully aware she sounded absolutely mad, but she was putting in a dedicated effort to make her notes a bit more put together and moderately scientific, for future generations.

Cameron stood in his usual vantage point over looking the city. Careful eyes watched the busy life continue. He wondered what life was like to be a regular person but never once desired it. Cameron loved his life, he had the strength of a god, the ability to fly and he was married to a women who could male Venus herself jealous. He pulled out cigarette, knowing every well he shouldn’t be. After all he had been countless ads discouraging kids from smoking. He light the end and took a deep inhale. He was glad he was high enough no one could see him. He puffed out a large and glanced back when he noticed movement. “Yes?” He asked.

Thana didn’t like roofs. Least of which was because she couldn’t use her powers. But it was usually to easy to be cornered on one and she was terrible in a fight. But she liked being on them in the hopes of clearing her head, so when she came to her usual roof, she just groaned. “I was hoping to get an hour or two alone before going on patrol.” She said. “But seeing as you’re already doing that, mind if I bum a hit? I’ll get out of your way after that.” She said, gesturing to his unbent cigarette.

“Stop, and reverse” Liberty said in a stern tone when Thana passed her, the blonde snapping her fingers for the other to come over to her “Care to tell me why I received a call from the Mayors in regards to a certain Carol Western, who was until recently, extremely deceased?” she wondered with a sharp click of her tongue “Why do I smell you and Heidi all over this?”

Renee groaned when she fell out of the car door, even if in reality she had been shoved by the person she’d hitched a lift from “Yeah, thanks” the hero stated as she lay back on the sidewalk, patting herself for a lighter to give some attention to the bent cigarette that hung out of her mouth. It had been weeks since Renee had been back in New York, the cyborg had physically disconnected her tracking chip from the Livingston Labs tracking systems and had damn well yeeted herself to Mexico. The weeks that had passed were a tequila infused blur for the woman, full of cage fights and bad tacos. The hero scooted herself up into a sitting position noting that her left arm was hanging off and sparking, only then grinning when someone stood over her. “Come on, admit that you missed me. Just a little bit?”

Thana looked down at the woman sitting on the concrete. “Something like that, do you need coffee? Or a light? Or both?” Thana asked. She sat down next to her and pulled out her own bent cigarette, though her’s was from a combination of keeping them in her pocket without protection and aesthetics. “So, how’ve ya been?” she asked as she fished her lighter out.

Thana Jarman became a hero after a falling out with a “coworker”, she’s relatively upbeat, despite her aesthetic and her powers. She’s aware her powers freak others out a little bit, so she’s constantly trying to make sure she comes off as non threatening initially. Would rather shit talk a villain than get into a fight with them. Keeps a pocket knife on her at all times. Has a tattoo that no ones ever seen under a cuff on her arm.

“Fair enough,” he replied. “So….what now?” He doubted they would be able to realistically hide out for very long before a hero or Carter came knocking.

Thana sighed and looked down. She didn’t have a plan. If she cleared her stuff out of the tower, Lib would find it suspicious and she’d be found out. She’d kill her. “I... I don’t know. It’s easy when you say it out loud. But the actual logistics are hell.”

“I wouldn’t let you die, take it from someone who lost someone really important to her at a young age” she pointed out, then giving a small smile at her. “If we become distracted this is only going to get that much worse, we’re fine whilst the citizens remain in the city, only part of the city has been evacuated, I think the real time for worry is when everyone is gone…”

Thana let out a sigh. “Maybe. I’m just...” Thana started to say. She was curled in on herself at this point, anxiety running rampant. “I think I’m gonna go to my room. I need materials. And some divine intervention. And maybe more candles than I know what to do with.” She said.

Thana chuckled. “There was ever a doubt? Dec, we’ve been through too much to be anything less.” She gripped his hand and played with her ring a bit. “Perpetually two sides of the same coin.” She added.
