There's a lot to be said for parallels between Nikki and Dolores (the girl labelled Lolita) from Nabokov's novel - both are characters intentionally obscured by the monstrous male protagonist; both have their names commendeered by an inhuman construct of that man's desires. But if you look, both make their desire for escape known, through their actions, their words, their clawing at the edges of the narrative - both are, despite their imprisonment, the beating heart of the stories they fight to survive

like. phm grace is told he should agree to a suicide mission because he doesn't have any friends or family. barbie movie ken thinks he needs a girlfriend to be complete. lars from lars and the real girl is so lonely that his brain creates a girlfriend, not even necessarily for the sake of having a girlfriend but for the sake of having a venue to connect with other people through. k from blade runner 2049 has a hologram girlfriend that he clings onto to feel like a human or whatever, i don't remember that one as well. but idk it's weird to me. i guess this happens in a lot of movies it's just funny to see it happen over and over again to ryan gosling specifically.
