Kyle Rittenhouse (although his character is questionable) acted in self defense and had he been charged with murder it would’ve been a great failure of justice. On the other hand, Ahmaud Arbery’s murderers did, in fact, murder Ahmaud, in racist, cold blood. And had they not been charged with murder, it would’ve been a great failure of justice.

Is seeing both sides really so hard?

Now that Rittenhouse was found “Not Guilty”, can we get the same verdict for Chrystul Kizer?

The circumstances are different, but I’m pretty sure that the defense can build a very strong argument for self-defense.

(There are some problems with that defense, but unlike Rittenhouse there is no video evidence to show exactly what happened. I’d say a jury would rule in favor of Kizer.)

Consider:

Twelve jurors knew that there were threats of violence against the city of Kenosha when they rendered their verdict. It would have been easy for them to say, "We'll find him guilty and he can fix it on appeal." But they didn't do that, because they knew that the evidence did not support a finding of guilty. They did their job.

If that verdict doesn't suit you, perhaps you should ask what it was they know that you didn't. Perhaps you should question why the most common media talking points aren't actually true, and ask why the media persists in perpetuating them.

It's not true that he crossed state lines illegally with a weapon. The weapon was owned and stored in Wisconsin. It's not true that his mother drove him there. He drove himself. It's not true that he went there looking for trouble. He had family and friends in Kenosha. He worked in Kenosha. He had ties to the community. He did not attack BLM protestors at random. He was putting out a fire when a group of grown men attacked him, gave chase, and attempted to take his weapon from him after verbally threatening his life. And it is not true that he fired indiscriminately, as one media personality put it. he did not "spray sixty rounds into the crowd". The gun wouldn't even hold sixty rounds. He shot those who attacked him, and only them.

Most of what people are spouting about this case is horribly incorrect, and the sad fact is that most of the people saying those things probably aren't even aware of it. They do not realize that the media has been lying to them, and that it has been doing so with an agenda.

Also, friendly reminder that I want to be proven wrong! I know my opinions are unpopular with both major parties. As a leftist, I hate that I have an opinion so unpopular with my party, but it's based on facts and evidence. Please provide counterevidence (like the person I just responded to; I'm grateful to that person and I'm definitely going to research and consider their points) instead of telling me that I'm spineless and should drink bleach 🙃

I didn't know about the video, and I didn't know the men were known white supremacists. They should have included evidence of these things in trial.

Things that can all be true at once:

-white supremacy is bad

-white supremacy is a problem

-a teenager affected by his local culture might not be able to understand the complexities of how vigilante culture is connotatively related to white supremacy

-a disingenuous political party using a teenager as a mascot doesn't mean the teenager should be condemned for defending himself

-people have the right to protest

-people also have the right to self-defense

-the blame for those two deaths lies with a culture perpetrated by white adults

-a black teenager in the same situation would not have gotten off nearly as easily

-but we should be trying to make things equally fair, not equally unfair

-we should blame root causes, not symptoms

-white supremacy needs to dismantled on a systemic level; making examples of individuals will only turn them into martyrs for anti-left causes and further the divide

-guns are bad

Yep. I’ve had these people tell me to go kill myself, that I should get raped, that they want to brutally murder me and more - the same people who insisted that consuming dark fiction and liking villains makes people commit immoral acts in real life. The cognitive disconnect is astounding.
