jayce surrendering to viktor in the exact same position that his alternate self died in is so funny because he really went all in on the power of love thing huh. he was really putting that much faith in his ability to snap viktor out of it. and it wouldn't have even fucking worked if ekko wasn't there. i fear that he's not beating the himbo allegations with this one, jayce talis you continue to be the stupidest man in all of piltover. godspeed you fucking idiot

yes yes we all see how jayce has to follow the steps of viktor's journey, to climb all the way up from the lowest bottom (zaun) to the highest top (piiltover) with a damaged leg...

but why is his leg damaged? it is not the fall down that leads to the fracture. no. it's his hammer.

jayce's leg is crushed by his own hammer. the same hammer he used as a weapon, betraying his and viktor's original hextech dream of progress, hope and prosperity, for zaun and piltover both. the same hammer he used to kill a zaunite child. the same hammer, the symbol of jayce's choice: confrontation over progress, council chamber over a science lab, everyone else's expectations over viktor, golden boy over partner. the same hammer, a promise broken.

it's the consequence of his own actions that damages jayce's leg.

his hammer - with everything it symbolizes - crushes him. so later we see jayce dismantle it to brace his leg.

jayce lets the past go with all it's mistakes, leaves it behind and climbs up, and then, and there, he gets a new hammer. a new promise. a new oath.

one thing i keep coming back to is the fight scene in the council room from s208 because it just tells us SO much about viktor. when he enters the room in his avatar he catwalks in. he moves with so much elegance and so much confidence. the way he pins jayce by the wrist and then slowly wraps his fingers around jayce’s hammer. the way he wraps his legs around jayce and cups his face and brushes his fingers over his lips. the way when he’s towering over jayce in the astral plane he calls him *his* partner for the first time.

we’re seeing who viktor is when he inhabits a body that he thinks is perfect

in the avatar of the glorious evolution, where viktor finally sees himself as powerful, as pure, as just like everybody else… he’s confident with jayce, even dominant, in a way he would never allow himself to be while he was alive in his original body.

and of course the kicker is that without his imperfections, without his entire self, he’s not viktor to jayce anymore. ‘my partner died in this room’

and it takes until the finale, until viktor can see himself through jayce’s eyes, for it to click that he could have been this way with jayce all along. that he has always been equal to jayce. that his confidence, his grace, his power - jayce saw it all along.

and i just found the end of the council room scene so devastating. the way that once viktor’s perfect evolved body is broken we immediately see him huddled and collapsed on the floor, making himself as small as possible
