Beetlejuice leaving the Winter Garden, and why I'm upset

as I'm sure many of you have heard the news by now, beetlejuice the musical is being forced to close its doors at the winter garden theater because of the revival of the music man starring hugh Jackman. there are reasons why I'm upset at this news and I'm going to get into why

1) Records

beetlejuice broke records at the winter garden theater! they literally! made the most money! they could have possibly made! And yet, according to the New York times, they are " being evicted from [their] theater to make room for another musical that promises to be more lucrative."

It's insane that the show brought this much money to the theater and then are being shut down for something "more lucrative". newsflash, assholes: it's not more lucrative. you have the numbers to prove it for goodness sake

2) This theater is the actors home

I mean that metaphorically obviously, but the point still stands. Many of the actors have a close attachment to the theater- alex brightman especially

and hes not alone in this.

this theater has special significance. and moreover THE SHOW IS TECHNICALLY CHALLENGING AS FUCK.

3) a new theater

yes. they are looking for a new theater. it's not end all be all

However, as the New York times points out, it might not be as easy as a new location

and finally,

4) who gives a shit about music man

no, really. right now, in this day and age, what do you hear talked about more.

look what happened when I looked up music man on Twitter, right now! cant you see how excited people are to watch music man? oh WAIT! they're pissed! that beetlejuice is being kicked out

In conclusion: this show doesnt fucking deserve this. it's stupid. its frustrating.
