Where could you be? Oh my poor collie,
“Delores! Breakfast is ready! Come down” yelled out Delores mom from the room over in the two bedroom apartment. Delores gets up, giving a final look around her room for her fluffy friend before leaving the room to the kitchen shared living room.
“Coming mom! Have you seen Roxy? He wasn't in my room!” Delores shouted as her feet made soft pitter pattering as she peered into the small bathroom. Seeing that Roxy wasn't in there she went to the kitchen.
“No I haven't, dear, he wasn't in my room or here…your pancakes are done, on the counter.” Delores mom muttered out, too focused on flipping pancakes while washing dishes.
Delores couldn't utter a word as she sits down shifting a bit as her mind clouds up with thoughts of where her precious collie could be. After her first bite of pancakes, she was lost in syrupy goodness for a few minutes, but as the plate was empty, she rushed up to the fire exit rushing down to see if her collie was in the backyard in her favorite spot under the big old tree.
“Roxy!? Roxy!?!’ Delores shouted out with an itch of annoyance. Yet she saw no signs of him, not even under his favorite spot under the tree where all the chubby squirrels are. Delores spots a group of her neighbors who are using the public grill that's by the small pool. She rushes over to them, going to talk to the sweet old lady who bakes cookies for all the kids in the apartment building.
“Miss! Have you seen Roxy back here?” Delores questions tilting her head a bit to the right as her curly brown hair sways with the gentle breeze.
“No i haven't, sweetheart, we haven't seen anything back here besides some rowdy kids from apartment B102” the old lady says, her voice sweet and trusting as ever.
“Thanks, let me know if you see her, Bye!” Delores mumbles out as she sprints away far enough just to flop down on a bench at the start of a trail.
“Where can he be!” Delores grumbled at herself, her mind racing with possibilities as she suddenly remembered the cameras her mom installed last month after a robbery that had happened to apartment 403 B.
She sat up straight pulling out her phone.Clicking on the app as she scrolls through footage seeing nothing she lets out an annoyed huff.
“I don't see anything-” Delores pauses as she zooms in on footage from a couple hours before she woke up seeing a fluffy tail exit the window to the fire escape.
Delores stands up rushing down the trail while looking around hoping to see her boy.
“Roxy..Roxy! ROXY!” Delores desperately calls out panic seeping throughout her body as she stumbles over herself.
But still all she can hear are the sound of birds chirping as the early morning breeze smacks against her face as she runs down the trail, the loose gravel under her shoe slowly fading into yellowish grass as it narrows down to a field. As she walks out mind racing of where her collie can be.
Delores took a deep breath as she looked around to see where she was. As she looks around in the corner of her eye she caught a glimpse of a dog park she takes Roxy too during the weekends where he would run free chasing his favorite blue frisbee with other dogs.
Delores slowly started walking towards the dog park dragging her feet as she caught her breath. Looking around there were some small shops she never really paid attention to. By the time She's getting out of her autopilot mindset, Delores didn't even notice she was directly in front of the gate to the dog park. Perking up she opens the gate walking around aimlessly praying to see a glimpse of her Collie. There were only a few dogs in the park, none of them had white with a soft blend of golden brown fur. Dread filled her senses as he wasn't here, not at home, not in the shared backyard and especially not the trail where the fat squirrels are. Delores jumped as she felt a hand on her shoulder taking her out of her thoughts.
“Hey del del? You good…?” spoke a raspy voice. It was Dolores' cousin. He has fluffy brown hair with blond tips. He's just a little shorter than Dolores was and a year younger.
“No, no I'm not ... .I can't find Roxy anywhere I checked, mom is already at work so I couldn't ask her !” Dlores voice is full of sorrow as she rubs the tears forming in her eyes. “You'll find him, he can't go that far. I'll go look for him!” Delores' cousin shouted, running off leaving Delores behind. She sighed as she left the dog park walking down the street. Halting in front of the only shelter in town.
“Maybe animal control caught him?....and brought him here”
Delores mumbles to herself as she walks in with a pep in her step with new found hope that he’ll be in here. Walking through the cages the scared dogs barking … or backing up in a corner some bigger dogs even snarling, some even look sick or sad the sights tugged at Dolores heart strings with a bit of fear. What those poor dogs have been through but she kept going the sound of her shoes against the brownish concrete. After finding an employee she found out there were no collies here. So Delores heard out before petting a small puppy without a leg.
“Poor puppy” Delores coo’s out petting the puppy with a small frown as she stands up exiting the shelter. After walking a bit more she was at the seashore delores sat down, knees up against her chest as she hugged them tightly, tears threatening to spill before she let out a choked out sob.Delores couldn't find her collie anywhere…till she felt a lick against her cheek. Delores slowly looked up.
“ROXY!” Delores shouted, hugging her precious Collie.
“Let's go home..” Delores sniffed , wiping her tears before standing up and walking home with her best friend.
