when i saw this (x)âŠ. this was all i could think ofâŠ.forgive me
âSo what youâre saying is that it wonât be as simple as punching the guy in the face?â
âRemember that time I accidentally let an alien parasite from another dimension lose on earth? Iâm pretty sure this is worse. And punching already did absolutely nothing back then.â
âThe gathering yesterday at the Facility was utterly useless and overdramatic.â
âWas it? I wasnât there but I hear it was very crowded.â
âThe concept of the paradox has always fascinated meâ the idea that power creates vulnerability within itself. The power that created me was perhaps always destined to be my downfall, but to be faced with oneâs own mortality so starkly.. it brings a feeling that I am not sure I could describe.â
âWelcome to being human then, I guess.â Billy found himself fiddling with a lose thread on his sleeve again, as he did so often when he felt uncomfortable. Or, like right now, lost. âBut weâre not just letting it happen, right?â
maximoffinscarlet:
âI would have to agree with you.â Wanda paused, shifting as she tried to find the right words to say to Billy. All she got out was a weak. âHi.â
This was awkward. It always was. They never seemed to know what to talk about. âHey.â He tried a careful smile. âSo,â he shoved his hands in his pockets to keep them still, âyouâre going to fight?â
xmantis:
âSarcasm?â Mantis repeated, tilting her head in confusion. Why would he pretend not to know when he did? It didnât make sense to her. Though she had pretended not to know know of Egoâs plans on his planet when in reality she had. âWhy not?â
âItâs considered funny in this part of the universe.â Billy had to admit that sarcasm or irony itself must seem strange to a culture that didnât have use for either. âBecause coffee is meant to keep you awake. And decaf is coffee, just without the chemicals that do that. Ergo it absolutely makes no sense.â
âRight?!â at least someone agreed with him Steve knew that he hadnât reacted the best in his objection to the accords but he knew he was right â Itâs like the worlds not learned its lesson yet, its Hydra based lessonâ. Snorting he shook his head at that âThe world shouldnât depend on anyone, I mean it kinda has ended up that way but hopefully itâll be less dependant one dayâ. He longed for a day where the world was strong enough to not need one group of people alone to defend it.
Steve grinned ânow that I am very very familiar with, though Iâm supposed to tell you not to jump head first into danger but thatâs hypocriticalâ. His hand stayed on the others arm for a few moments before he moved it â even if itâs just some training and the advice to stay away from red, white and blue spandexâ.
âMaybe they never will,â Billy mused. If history had taught him anything it was that people were stupid and prone to repeating the same mistakes over and over again. âAnd tell that the neverending string of aliens trying to invade us. Iâm not really sure whatâs so special about earth. Arenât there other, cooler planets out there?â
Billy really liked this Cap. He wasnât at all like the Republican version his teachers had tried to sell to him all his life. And on top of that his arms were even more impressive in person. Billy really hoped his blush wasnât too obvious. âIâll try to keep that in mind though I canât promise anything. And Iâll have you know that my spandex has very lovely galaxy print.â
noh-vcrr:
âThanks.â he replied with an amused scoff. âIâve eaten actual mud and the taste is quite different, but I see your point.â He wasnât sure if everyone was caught up on his strange anatomy yet, including he could digest and get energy from just about any form of matter under desperate circumstances. âOrange juice with with tonic water.â he added. âItâs my new preferred beverage. It mixes well with alcohol as well. Though with my anatomy diluting it isnât doing me any favors. Itâs expensive enough when Aurora and I try to drink, even without mixers.â
âHasnât everyone at some point?â The last time heâd done it on a dare when he was nine if he remembered correctly. And then thrown up all over his motherâs favourite shoes. Not his favourite memory. âEh,â Billy grimaced at the thought of tonic water. âDepends on the alcohol. Itâs goes well enough with champagne and vodka but I wouldnât try mixing it with something like bourbon or brandy. I canât imagine that tasting good. This is of course all second-hand information. Iâm a good boy and have never had a drink in my life.â The innocent smile on was as much a lie as the words coming from his mouth.Â
tommy-speedherd:
Tommy scoffed. âThere are better ways to tell someone they look like shit. Arenât you supposed to be the considerate one?â Tommy deflected. He really wasnât interested in Billy making a big deal about things. Especially when he hurt himself by being an impatient dumb ass, or as some people wold say, himself.
On this rare occasion Tommy actually made the rare decision to take a seat instead of stand or pace. He could take a hit, at a few thousand miles an hour at that, but that fall had done him in. Felt like he broke a rib or two and his ankle had definitely been sprained, but heâs dealt with worse. Although he never talks about his worst pain came from that freak show he was locked up in. Needles, biopsies, dissections - sometimes while conscious. He could handle just about anything after all that.
Without a moments hesitation he snatched the coffee out of his brothers hand and gulped down about a quarter of it before putting it back in his hands. It burnt his tongue, making him make a face for a moment as he rubbed his tongue against the roof of his mouth. âDonât be dumb and burn your mouth, itâs hot.â He said as he slouched and scratched his eyebrow with his pinky.Â
âWhat do you want to eat?â he asked, not letting his injuries get in the way of his priorities.
âNo, Iâm supposed to be the responsible one. Someone needs to be responsible for you because you never are.â There was not even a hint of accusation in his tone. In Billyâs eyes Tommy needed someone to look after him and being his twin brother, that job was his. He did it gladly. Though sometimes he didnât know how. His twin rarely ever let anyone get close even getting where they were now had taken a lot of caution and patience on Billyâs part and they still had a long way to go.
Billy let Tommy steal his coffee without complaint. He could always buy more if theyâd fiished this one. His fingers itched for him to reach out and check on those cuts, maybe put something on them so they wouldnât get infected even though Tommyâs accelerated healing was already taking cae of it. Yet all he did was to place two fingers on his brotherâs jaw and turn his head from side to side to confirm that Tommy hadnât sustained any head injuries.Â
âYou look like Iâve saved you from some fight club so lemme just -getofthebloodgetofftheblood,..â Blue sparks sprang from his fingertips and within a minute Tommyâs clothes were clean enough to not draw attention. âNow you wonât scare the kids anymore. Anything else, since Iâm at it?â Heâd made a promise to himself to only use his magic for emergencies anymore, but Billy figured that if this didnât exactly count as an emergency, he could always make an exception for Tommy. âThai or pizza?â
bluebrashear:
âMhm, sad to say that they arenât exactly on sale for the moment. Or ever.â he mused. âIf it makes you feel any better, the government has spent millions of dollars cleaning up my messes.â From his initial experiments in his youth to the damage he dealt to Chicago when cleaning up the streets turned a bit more extraordinary than expected. âIâd deduce that you have a lot of power hiding in there. The pressure is enormous isnât it? It never goes away, but at least for me it served as ample motivation.â
âThatâs a shame,â Billy sighed, âif you ever change your mind, please give me a call. Iâd want one just to put it up on the wall over my bed.â A little surprised, he nodded slowly. The other man seemed to understand something about power, maybe more than Billy himself did. Probably more, considering Billy was a teenager whoâd only had his powers for half a minute. âI donât want to become one of these people who use that power to harm others. I want to do good.â He wanted to be good, but Billy didnât say that. âBut itâs like sooner or later everyone strays. Ho do you do it?â
itsybitsyarachne:
âIf you heard the word decaf it wasnât from me. Thatâs not something I chose to acknowledge.â
âMustâve been the house elves then. My bad. Double espresso for you then?â
scngbiirds:
âDecaf is an abomination and shouldnât be mentioned. Ever. Smart boy.â
âYup, thatâs me. Smartest kid in the room. Now that weâve established that, can I interest you in something that doesnât taste like old dish water?â
warmachiinerox:
âDecaf. Itâs what old men drink when they donât want to be up all night. Itâs what I need right now.â
âAnd here I was thinking you were cool.â
xmantis:
âI donât know what it really is, either.â Mantis admitted, bobbing her head, âI heard someone talking about it the other day.â
âOh that was actually sarcasm.â Billy briefly considered explaining it to her. He wasnât entirely sure Mantis understood the concept. âI know what it is actually, I just pretend not to. And it really isnât worth knowing if you ask me.â
itsmjones:
âYeah, no. Not explaining decaf coffee to you when you clearly know what it is.â
âItâs an abomination, thatâs what it is. And I donât want it anywhere near me.â Billy grimaced and pushed the cup as far away as he could without spilling the contents all over MJ. âCan I have a real coffe now?â
Steveâs cheeks went red and he spluttered, mouth opening and closing before he spoke â It was tiny really honestly not that big of a dealâŠ.â. Except it had been and everyone whoâd saw the news knew it â it was just a minor disagreement over my loyalty and the way super heroes are governedâ he was talking with his hands a clear sign that his mask had been rattled a little â minimal damage caused just a few roadsâŠ.a tunnel âŠparts of a government buildingâŠa helicopterâŠ.an airportâŠ.a secret hydra base but really that one needed to go and uh I guess you count the ocean prison thingâ. He cleared his throat giving the younger man a smile, his âit wasnât that badâ smile and it was as see through as it had been when he was smaller and bullshitting about pneumonia âitâs all sorted now anyway, it isnât like the Avengers and friends split entirely in two over it and are a tiny bit rocky over the fact I couldnât leave a former Hydra-Russian super soldier assassin alone because he may be my best friend in the entire worldâ.Â
His hands paused as he shifted awkwardly in his seat, clearing his throat again he gave a slightly less flustered smile âLook, Iâve been where you areâŠthat fear itâsâŠ.itâs a process and if you trust your team then youâll be fine and if you need advice or just someone to help you figure things out post mission well then you have permission to come find me no matter whatâ. Leaning forward he patted Billy on the arm â They do, no matter what they tell you every government and organisation has an agenda, you just gotta be prepared for thatâ.
Well, this was a first. Had he just embarrassed Steve Rogers? Billy almost felt a little bad, but on the other hand this was highly amusing. âHonestly, donât tell anybody, but I think youâre right. Nothing good ever comes out of governments or other organisations trying to control people with powers. People will only get hurt.â He thought of his twin and how much he sometimes wished itâd been him in his place. He was glad that the Avengers seemed to be okay. Still, he hoped that this would never happen to him and his friends. He couldnât lose a single one of them. âI do hope so. The world kinda depends on you people.â
âThank you,â Billy couldnât help but flush at the small touch. âIt means a lot. I think a few of my team members might disagree, but we really donât know what weâre doing a lot of the time.â If the rest of the Young Avengers could hear his confession, at least half would probably be prepared to murder him. But it was the truth. If they were honest with themselves, they were nothing but a ragtag band of vigilantes, most not even old enough to drink. âMostly we just jump into it head first and try to wing it somehow.â And mostly they were really just fixing what theyâd broken themselves in the first place. âA little guidance couldnât hurt from time to time.â
@thatbillykaplan
âNot fast enough!â Tommy shouted to the air as he ran from Orlando. He wasnât going fast enough. He wasnât âlittle Pietroâ or whatever the hell people called him. He wasnât just Billyâs weaker brother. He was Tommy Shepherd. He felt he had to prove himself, not for the sake of otherâs seeing him as an individual but so he could see it himself.Â
Now passing Richmond he felt his blood pressure rise, knowing that he wouldnât hit his target time. Kicking it into high gear he made a beeline for New York City so he could meet with his twin.Â
He didnât just want to be fast, he wanted to be the fastest. Speed was his thing, it was what he was good at. Hell, it was even his title, and yet he wasnât fast enough to even be close to satisfied.
He was nearing the destination when he threw any semblance of caution he had into the wind and made a desperate attempt to get to Billy as fast as he could, for his own sake. He was almost there when he lost track of his footing and slipped over his own feet. He was sent tumbling at several times the speed of sound become cut, battered, and bruised. Sure it hurt, but what it did to his time was the real issue. Ten minutes to travel a thousand miles was ridiculously slow by his standards, and yet it was his reality.
He gimped around the corner, most of his cuts being sealed already, he spotted his brother. Doing his best to not appear injured he approached. âHey loser.â
He was trying to use his magic as little as possible these days. Cooking instead of simply procuring food, walking instead of flying even cleaning his room by hand. Magic, Billy had decided, was to be used carefully from now on and pnly if absolutely necessary. Letting one parasite from another dimension lose on his precious planet had been enough. Billy still had nightmares from the look in Teddy's eyes after realising his mother wasn't actually his mother back from the dead. The incident had left him deeply shaken when he'd just healed and was still haunting him. Billy had done that. He wouldn't do it again.
There was still that fear of being left again that followed him everywhere like a shadow. As a result he was being clingy and unbearable and he knew it. But he was working on that. He was giving them both space to do something on their own and what better way to spend that time than with his twin?
Their connection was a strange thing. Billy had known Tommy for only a couple of years and yet he was one of two people he'd trust blindly. Frankly, he didn't care if Wanda had cooked them up from a spell. Tommy was his brother, end of story.
He was early for their meeting so he bought himself a coffee from a street vendor and sat on a bench to watch some dogs playing in the park. The telltale gust of air and the 'whoosh' sound of Tommy approaching made him turn his head just in time to watch his twin seemingly materialise out of thin air. The sarcastic remark died on his tongue when he took in his appearance. âWhat the hell, Tommy? What happened to you?â
