my name is Fucked Bastard and my special talent is not going to make it
the Rennala fight is extremely fucking funny because like. you break into a grieving woman's room and act out the "how many kindergarteners could you take in a fight" meme, and then the opening dialogue for phase 2 implies that what you're fighting is actually a projection of Renalla at her full power conjured up by her daughter Ranni. but then you kill "her" (the projection of Renalla) and her final words are "Little Ranni... weave thy night into being..."
except they're not actually her final words because you reload and she's sitting there just fine. so what actually happened was you killed Ranni's tulpa of her mom. which means Ranni made her own mom say the equivalent of "my daughter... my favorite child who has never done anything wrong ever... you were right about everything... you're going to win at politics... and your waist is snatched..."
i believe it wise to hear out the wisdom of renalla

*grabs you with my long gargoyle-like arms and flies off witj you*
Oh thank god hold me tight you scary motherfucker
Dark Souls 3 is kinda perfect.
The game has issues but complaining about them feels frivolous in the face of how definitively well executed everything about it is. In a way it's the perfect sequel to the first game, visually, thematically and gameplay-wise.
If I were around that sphere when DS2 came out I would be really disappointed because the original intention of that game was to reinvent the series with every new entry. New feel, new mechanics, new worlds and stories, an infinite adventure, ten thousand sequels each with their unique feel of combat, genuinely no stone was left unturned in the development of Dark Souls 2. In a world where DS3 never happened, we probably would still have Dark Souls sequels.
But Dark Souls 3 reigns it in. The series is immediately wrangled back to its roots, everything about dark souls 3 is rooted in the first game, and it all serves one singular purpose: to deliver a message to all who fell in love with the first game. The message being: This Series Has To End. Now.
And what would be a more perfect way to deliver such a message than making a story about a dying world that is tired of existing? Make your fans face the corpses of their favourite characters. Put them into the ruins of their favourite areas, covered in ash and dust and poison. Make I all staggeringly beautiful in a macabre kind of way.
Have you ever had a favourite game series that started out brilliantly but then was bought or the devs just completely lost the plot, so after a few new installments it feels less like the game you once knew, and more like it's corpse being paraded around? I've heard fans of the original Fallout games complain in that manner. I'm not one of them but I can see where they're coming from.
Dark Souls 3 seems to be doing something like that on the surface, but instead of a parade, it feels more like a funeral. It's a beautiful funeral, but the reality hits you like a sack or bricks: this world is dying, and then the credits roll, the casket will be closed. Do you still want to go on this journey? Yeah, I do.
Perhaps one day Dark Souls 4 will come out. I have a small sliver of hope that maybe someone at fromsoft figures out what this series might still have left to say. Dark Souls 3 is probably the most ended game to ever end a series. It ended so hard that I feel like if Dark Souls 4 hits our shelves after a decade, everyone will just look past it, thinking they might've seen a ghost.
I do wanna fuck that ghost though. Badly.

I have finished the game with the gun and the blood and I thought it was pretty great.
Why is it everyone that sets out to rip off the Souls series fails to include any of the goofiness? Grim as the world of Dark Souls is, it can also at times be completely ridiculous. It's got mimic chests that attack you with fucking Street Fighter hurricane kicks and giant bulging bobble eyed basilisks and whatever the hell Frampt and Kaathe are supposed to be. There's a reason these games are such a rich goldmine of memes.
Even in a dead world devoid of hope there is silliness and whimsy.
THE LAND OF IDUS?! HELLO?????
“oh I’m sure we’ll get a couple vague lore hints but that’ll probably be it” NOPE! NEW LAND JUST DROPPED
Elden Ring
Dark Souls 2
Nightreign
there’s some other games too but I forget which ones
Elden Ring
Anyway the trend is that people will hype up Dark Souls 1 while neglecting the contributions the other games made, even when these games do some aspects BETTER than DS1. It's thanks to the writing ideas of DS2 and the increasing focus on quality bosses of DS3 that Elden Ring is as good as it is. The trilogy only enhances the original product
do evil things but only if thou'rt feeling silly. doing evil things whilst in a bad mood can result in (glances at godwyn) bad things
Expressing regret that the interruption would delay the highly anticipated video game adaptation, the producers of A24’s upcoming Elden Ring film announced Tuesday that the project had stalled after a red phantom named TwinkPunisher invaded the set. “Despite our security team’s best efforts, a loincloth-wearing invader with the handle TwinkPunisher was able to gain access to the shoot through the use of a Festering Bloody Finger, disrupting production for the foreseeable future,” said a spokesperson for the studio, adding that TwinkPunisher had tauntingly placed a Rainbow Stone on the ground for every take he managed to render unusable by performing the “warm welcome” gesture, by obscuring the actors with the Ekzykes’s Decay incantation, or by repeatedly spamming the “You’re beautiful” Prattling Pate over dialogue.
