I can’t be the only person who sees parallels between Jax TADC and Season 4 Catra from She-Ra right?

Someone who doubles down on being the worst version of themselves. Someone who has long stopped believing they are capable of being redeemed. Someone who antagonises and actively targets their former closest friend because when they reached out to help, they reached a little too deep. Someone who’s convinced everyone is going to leave, and acts in a way to make them leave, but is still devastated when they inevitably prove themselves right.

The real tragedy of Jax is that he was so close to a breakthrough. The second that moment of vulnerability was disturbed, the walls slammed back up, and his disgust at his own vulnerability kicked back in.

So I made this post a while ago about a stray Scare Clown in my neighbourhood, and almost immediately afterwards everything kind of popped off so apologies for not updating until now.

First things first- I have officially adopted him! I’ve named him Velvet, and as far as we can tell he’s a Jester/Scare hybrid. I wasn’t able to pick out his Jester’s cap before because it got tangled up in itself when he was abandoned. It seems its prongs will remain permanently lopsided as a result, but the Vet said he doesn’t seem to be in any pain from it, so I got the all-clear to take him home. I still think there may be some Circus in him because he definitely has some contortionist behaviours, and food-stand meats are a clear favourite so far. I managed to get some second-hand abandoned sideshow attractions and carnival gear for him, and he’s been adjusting quite well. He’s grown a lot with a proper diet, but he’ll likely stay on the smaller side. I did try and contact the Scare Clown breeder I mentioned in my previous post, only for her to block me after not responding for a week. Joy of joys. My girlfriend was able to look through her Instagram and found a bunch of photos of purebreds that share some of Velvet’s features, so it was definitely one of hers that got out. Unfortunately, irresponsible breeders are nothing new.

Anyway, Velvet’s doing a lot better now and has a loving home! Thanks for everyone who commented on my previous post with advice, you were all a great help.

Hey Clown Husbandry side of tumblr, it’s my first time posting in this community but I really need some advice here.

So my neighbourhood is currently home to what has to be an abandoned clown. There was a famously dickish neighbour who moved out a couple months ago, and right around then is when this new one started showing up.

It’s definitely on the young side. Poor thing looks like absolute hell - I doubt it’s ever gotten proper care. It’s probably a crossbreed? Got bright red and purple colouration and circus markings, but its proportions make me think scare clown. Theres a scare clown breeder about a block down from us, so my running theory is that one of Neighbour’s got out, had a clownlet with one of the scares, and he just dumped the poor thing when he left.

This is where I probably fucked up. It kept coming up to the edges of my yard to investigate before running the second I came outside. It looked so starved that I ended up leaving out a little food and water, just to make sure it would survive. It cleaned out the bowl in about ten seconds flat, so I kept doing it.

Now my yard is its favourite spot, and it’s even stopped running away when I come out the house. I’ve been giving it a wide berth, but on the whole it seems pretty docile. Right now, I’m hoping I can maybe try and lure it into a carrier with some food and get it checked out, but I need advice. What’s the best plan for getting it off the streets? Should I just call animal welfare to get it? I genuinely don’t know what to do next.

Obviously I know the Panto Masks as a concept are very freaky and surreal and not wholesome and i applaud them for that.

However

The fact that there is 1) apparently a birth order if Termina is ‘big sis’ and 2) the fact that they may have some pre-programmed fondness given that both Bolaire and Termina seem to genuinely think of the other as a sibling despite only being together for 1 day whilst pre-occupied with a god-killing ritual

I can’t shake the idea that Bolaire is the baby of the group. And I kind of want another of his siblings (either Termina if we figure out wtf is going on with her or one we haven’t met yet) to just see him and go ‘Little Brother :D!!!’

Also the inherent comedy of it saying ‘hey, this freaky parasitic mask that scared away an Unseelie Fae made of rot and filth through sheer horror??? He’s the least bad of his siblings actually. He’s the baby. Do not touch him for threat of a fate worse than death from the others.’

I think it could be interesting if Bolaire does end up as some sort of construct.

Like. I can see ‘find a solution to Bolaire’s rotating body problem’ becoming a potential long-term goal for the Schemer’s and a Warforged body theoretically wouldn’t be prone today decay or even need to be as meticulously maintained as a human body. Bolaire’s found a temporary solution in seemingly farming the bodies of criminals from Noted Club that Criminals Frequent, but I could easily see the more moral Schemer’s attempting to find a permanent fix to it all so he doesn’t have to keep doing that.

Like. There’s so much potential with Bolaire. He clearly values the life and identity he’s built for himself and the sense of personhood he’s found with Hal over everything else. I believe he was telling the truth to Hal, just not the entire truth. I feel like the inevitable arc of the Schemer’s story is going to rip that life away from him, expose all the horrors he had to commit in order to maintain it and possibly force him from Dol-Makjar (I think it’d be a very cogent way to facilitate a table swap/reshuffling). I’m excited to see whatever they end up doing with him, but honestly I think some kind of workaround with a mechanical body/proxy could be suggested as a ‘solution’ at some point, even if it doesn’t work. What does a body need to have in order for him to be capable of possessing it? Would Beastfolk be immune because the mask can’t fit on their face, or does that not matter? Knowing Brennan and Taliesin it’s more likely than not for all this to get explored and I for one can’t wait.

Gang, I have a crack theory about Bolaire.

Y’know how Tyranny is using the Abyssal Tiefling stats/rules but is reskinned as a Demon because of the World? I think Bolaire is doing the same with being Elven.

We saw ‘Elf Warlock’ written on the whiteboard for him in the promo material. That could easily mean the body he started out in was an elf, in fact it probably just does. HOWEVER. I think he’s using the elf stat block because it best reflects the natural resistances and traits Bolaire would have as an enchanted object.

Going into a shortened trance state instead of sleeping. Resistance to being charmed. These things make sense for an object like Bolaire. I think making him an elf is less to reflect his current body and more just using an existing race to best reflect how Bolaire functions as a unique sort of Construct.

I am probably way overthinking this but honestly I think it might make sense. Thoughts?

there should be a term for characters you personally don't care about but you defend them anyways because the way people treat them is really uncomfortable. like ok this is a very middle-of-the-road character for me but the fandom's either been super misogynistic, racist, etc. about them or harassed innocent people who try to genuinely explore that character warts and all, and i find that more annoying than the actual character.

Hey Critical Role Fandom: what do you think Bolaire’s subclass is?

Based on the summoning of glass weaponry we can assume he’s probably Pact of the Blade, but I’m wondering about his Patron. We already know there’s some homebrew going on in this campaign, so I wouldn’t be surprised if his Patron is also homebrew. Given his backstory, it would make sense to flavour his Warlock Patron abilities more as ‘these are abilities granted by my makers’ and less of a traditional Warlock Pact, and I don’t think any of the 2024 Warlock subclasses would really fit with Bolaire in that sense without some alteration. We already have some precedent for reflavouring like this with Tyranny; instead of a more traditional Fiend Pact dynamic, she herself is the Demon that’s been contracted out to the Halovars, which still works as a concept with the Fiend Patron abilities.

There definitely already seems to be some flavouring going on - Bolaire having Devil’s Sight absolutely makes sense as just a Thing a sentient magical mask would be able to do. He’s a mask, of course he can see in darkness perfectly. I’m just very interested in how they play the Warlock mechanics with his backstory. And if it is played like that, would his siblings also be Warlocks? There’s a lot of potential here.

Hi I’m finally catching up on Critical Role Campaign 4 and as always the Taliesin Jaffe Character has stolen my heart

Anyway here’s some random thoughts about Bolaire

- I like the idea that the mask was completely static and didn’t move until he started gaining sentience during the Falconer’s Rebellion (or even later after Hal but thats more of a logistical nightmare since he was already established as ‘Bolaire’ at that point), and I’ve seen someone point out that the tear streaks could mean he’s a Tragedy Mask. ‘Lathalia’ is probably derived from Thalia of the Nine muses, who is the Muse representing comedy. Whilst this could also mean he was Comedy, I personally kind of fuck with the idea of a young Bolaire intentionally naming himself the opposite of his former role in an attempt to find identity. I don’t know I always like angsty little turns like that. Plus that probably means 8 siblings, and a 9 person cast for a God Killing Play sounds reasonable.

- it would be REALLY fun and VERY knife-twisty for Bolaire to revert to his original Panto character at some point. Just reciting the lines and doing the moves like a puppet on strings whilst his friends are helpless to stop him. The obvious route to play that is a villain using him as a weapon for whatever reason again, but I also kind of like the idea of Bolaire intentionally reverting. Like. He’s no longer that character, but he still has the script memorised. He knows all the choreography. It could be an intentional ‘you want the weapon? Here it is’ moment that freaks the ever loving shit out of the villain. Idk both possibilities are so CHEWY

- We gotta meet his siblings right? One’s shattered, so they’re probably dead unfortunately, but what about the rest? Have any of the others developed like Bolaire has? What if we meet one still stuck re-enacting the play, unable to hear anything Bolaire says to them because those words aren’t in their script? It’s just so JUICY

- MENDING ON THE MASK. Now that we know the word Mending means ‘Remember’ that could absolutely turn into a chekovs gun. Imagine if successfully casting Mending on Bolaire would legitimately revert him to his old state? What would happen if it were cast on the broken mask from the coffin? I wouldn’t put it past either Brennan or Taliesin to pull some shit like that. ‘Oh you thought Mending meaning ‘Remember’ was a one-off moment? YOU HAVE BEEN FOOLED!’
