247 | Today I was at a party and someone across the room had “The Goldfinch” tattooed in the title font and I’m still mad at myself for not talking to her about it
Look at this GORGEOUS Library of Souls Hardcover!! I love the colour and that it’s “signed” by the characters!! Hope you all enjoy this book
WOW!! 10,000 people actually follow my little blog?! That’s so mind blowing to me. So normally for a milestone this big i’d do a giveaway, but since all my money is currently being poured into building these new bookshelves, I decided a follow forever was the second best option! :) So in no order, here are some of my favoriteeee blogs and you should all check them out because the blogs and the people who run them are hella rad. Sorry for anyone I forget! I kinda suck at follow forevers lol

Love you friend <3
People who buy a book, read the book, and then go out and buy another book are people I admire because I buy 12 books at once and 11 of them usually sit there unread for years.
June/July book haul!
I went a little crazy... I also have Deity, Pure and Apollyon by Jennifer l Armentrout now shown because I am getting those tomorrow.
The left stack are books I found at used bookstores. The middle stack are books I bought new. The third stack are birthday books.
Sorry for this question, i knw it sounds so dumb. but ow do you link your reviews in goodreads?
OH! I’ll show you an example!
So when you go to the page of the book you want you link the review of scroll down to “My Review” and at the bottom is a little button that says “see review”
if you click on it then you’ll be brought to the page where your review is :)
How do you post a book review here in tumblr? Like it looks like thats connected to goodreads. Thanks.
Hi! I’m not 100% sure what you mean specifically but the way my book reviews look I make myself! I add in the blurb from the book and I link it to Goodreads
I’m not sure if that answers your questions but I hope so!!
It's 1941 and fifteen-year-old artist Lina Vilkas is on Stalin's extermination list. Deported to a prison camp in Siberia, Lina fights for her life, fearless, risking everything to save her family. It's a long and harrowing journey and it is only their incredible strength, love, and hope that pull Lina and her family through each day. But will love be enough to keep them alive?

My Thoughts:
I'm in my last year of University studying The Holocaust, and in particular I like to focus on the relationships between people in the concentration camps. Now, for whatever reason, that has made me really dislike reading any sort of historical fiction that has anything to do with work/concentration/death camps. I always feel like they are portrayed wrong or have unrealistic aspects and I don’t always think they do the real stories any justice. Now while this wasn’t about the Holocaust, the Siberian prison camps were very similar. That being said, this book was nothing like I usually read. It was so real. The relationships between people were real and everything was incredibly believable. It is clear that the author did her research and met with many survivors. There is so much love between the people living in these camps. They helped each other any way they could; whether it was giving food up so your children could eat, or helping out someone who maybe wasn’t as greatful as he should have been, they always helped out one another. You get the sense of community between the prisoners in this book that you just don’t see often in the real world. We are selfish beings and often think about ourselves first, while in this story this is not the case. It just shows that even in the worst conditions, humanity can present itself in people. I don't really want to go into an in depth review about all the characters and the plot, I think that you should read this book regardless of what I think about the characters and plot. The plot was amazing, the characters were so incredibly dynamic. It was all perfect. I really wish this book was more popular. I feel like it's such an important story because this part of history has been so forgotten. Everyone knows about the Holocaust but many people forget what Stalin was doing in the Soviet Union at the same time. At the end of the audiobook (I'm not sure if this is in the real book) there is an afterword by the author and it was really beautiful because she explains what brought her to write this story and a part of it is that it's something so forgotten, and she even touches upon that in her novel at the end.
My one and only complaint is (and this may be because I listened to the book, rather than read it) but I didn't like the jump from present to the past. It was abrupt and I couldn't tell when it had happened. The end of chapters were also a bit abrupt sometimes. But this in no way took anything away from the story.
Such a beautiful book. This story will stay with me for a long time and I hope I can find myself a used copy of this somewhere because I would love to own the book and read it again eventually.
Every action has consequences. Waking in an unfamiliar bedroom in a luxurious mansion, Claire Nichols is terrified to discover that a chance encounter led her into the cruel hands of her abductor, Anthony Rawlings. Claire has no understanding of why she's there, but it's been made abundantly clear--she is now his acquisition and every action has consequences. Learn the rules to survive. Facing incomprehensible circumstances, Claire must learn to survive her new reality--every aspect of her livelihood depends upon the tall, dark-eyed tycoon who is a true master of deception. Driven by unknown demons, he has no tolerance for imperfection, in any aspect of his life, including his recent acquisition. Anthony may appear to the world as a handsome, benevolent businessman, but in reality Claire knows firsthand that he's a menacing, controlling captor with very strict rules: do as you're told, public failure is not an option, and appearances are of the utmost importance. Captivate the captor. To fit together the pieces of the puzzle, Claire must follow his rules. Will her plan work, or will Anthony become enthralled by Claire's beauty, resilience, and determination, changing the game forever? If that happens, will either of them survive the consequences?

My Thoughts:
I can't even begin to express how much I HATED this book. I'm so speechless I don't know where to start. Anthony Rawlings is satan. He is the living embodiment (fictional embodiment??) of the devil himself. He makes Christian Grey look like a saint. He is abusive, manipulative, disgusting, there are not enough words in my vocabulary for this right now. And Claire, Claire is an absolute idiot. She gets kidnapped and thrown into this HORRIBLE life where she is held prisoner and raped daily and how does she handle it? By doing everything he tells her to, including marrying him, and then dealing with all his baggage, and ENJOYING IT, even though he nearly killed her. The first time she was in public with him I don't know why she didn't tell anyone she could about what was happening to her. She had ample opportunity to run away, I am just shocked at her stupidity. I am actually astounded at her, and honestly the fact that she's portrayed this way makes all women look like imbeciles and I find this incredibly offensive. I'm honestly sitting here going "why the hell did I read this" and I cannot fathom why I wasted a whole day on this book. I have two friends on here that read this and were screaming about how angry this book made them and how the end made up for it so I continued to push through to the end. And what a dumb decision that was!! He attempts suicide but makes it look like attempted murder, gets her SENT TO PRISON, and is suing her for slander. I don't understand how that is ANYTHING close to helping make up for this horrid book. I didn't find this even remotely okay, Rawlings was essentially a serial killer, without actually killing anyone. And it is clear with he end he intends to do this again. I really don't know what to say, what to think, how to react, I just know that there are so many things in life I wish I would have spent the day doing rather than reading this book. AND THE WORST PART? I have to read book 2 to see what happens because I want to see if she gets any payback on him. The prospect of reading more of this is almost worse than the actual book was. Other things to mention are that the writing itself is really dull and repetitive. She spends an astronomical amount of time just talking about day to day stuff, constantly repeating herself. It's boring and I had to skim a large portion of the book because it got old really fast. Just anger inducing.

My Thoughts:
I am a huge fan of this book! I knew I would be honestly but I still am surprised. I just want to throw in a quote here that I loved from this book. I rarely write down quotes but I found this one beautiful: "Sometimes I think that's the hardest part to recover from. Not the loss of someone, but the loss of the possibility of them." This book is essentially the tv show Revenge as a book. Revenge is one of my favourite tv shows so naturally I gravitated towards this book. This was such a unique story. It is very similar to the show, but in reality there are no books like this one. It's such a unique story and I would have almost rather this have been an adult fiction book that was a bit longer. The main girl, Frances, was really great. I obviously sympathized with her and what she went through and I was so on board with her revenge storyline. But at the same time, there reached a point where I wanted to be like "enough is enough". She is unlikeable, but likeable at the same time. I found a lot of similarities between myself and her and that made it that much easier to relate to her. As for side characters, they were all great. Grey was such a complex character. I felt like I understood his struggle and while I didn't approve of what he did, I still find it in me to care about him. Shepard is a character I felt sad for truly. He lost the girl he loves and I feel like that stayed with him for so long. I cared about him and his forgiving and loving personality. He also reminds me of Jared Howe from The Host because he loves someone who really doesn't exist anymore; who has someone else living in their body. The person he love became someone else. I also approve that this book wasn't a love triangle. It could have been, really could have, but Carrie Ryan dealt with that so easily and wonderfully that I didn't have to live through a love triangle. While I loved this book, and rated it 5 stars, I did have problems with it. Well, I had problems with the end. I didn't agree with it.spoilers ahead I like that the "bad guy" died. I like that Shepard and Grey lived. I like that she confessed to the female cop. I liked all of that. I do not like that she essentially goes off on her own and leaves them both behind. I know it's better if she starts over, especially since she "died". But she really could have started over with Grey. I know at the end of the book she decided to right a letter to him and tell him that she was alive and everything, but I don't like not knowing how that worked out. We got closure, but no closure at the same time. All I wish for this book is that it was longer. More developed storyline. More detail in the plot. More planning and acting out of her revenge. Otherwise, I was extremely satisfied with this book and I do definitely recommend it!
