this is basically because im nosy and wanted to see what the general consensus is within the ED fandom atm on the best and worst characters, couples, and storylines
so here is my Emmerdale Thoughts and Feelings poll (a round of applause erupts from everywhere) - if anyone else is interested (nosy) like myself, please respond and then reblog so we can get as many results as possible and see where the fandom is at right now!!! if no one else is interested/nosy, this can just die lmao so no worries there!!!
Hello lovely people! I had a thought, now I'm putting it to the test!
Below is a series of questions around Emmerdale from the first four
thank you so much in advance to anyone who gives this the time of day - i love you all so much!!!
I think it would have been fun if Andy had been around for the Johnron wedding and the aftermath of Robert's return. Andy probably would have sided with John immediately when he realised that Robert was there to take Aaron back from John. Andy had been in John's position before of losing his partner to his adoptive brother so the memories of that would have made him defensive of John right away. Andy would be all like "you're doing this again? You just can't help yourself can you? First it's my wife and now John's husband!"
LOL! I can totally see that.
Andy's been gone for so long now I kind of forgot what his character is like, but I love it. More sibling Sugden drama for John to get entangled in!
the dynamic of all four Sugden siblings would be delicious
Vic would obviously continue this closeness John and I actually think she may put John over Andy as well as Robert... Vic rules her life based on her very rigid moral compass and i really do think John fits into that better than Andy
obv Robert and John would stay the same because it's one of my favourite dynamics the show has ever written - so intense, so clever, so tragic but also entirely believable
the interesting one is where Andy fits in, and i think his opinions would change
first and foremost he'd definitely be on John's side for sure. Robert's showing up on his usual bullshit and poor John doesn't know what hit him
BUT in the end i think Andy would change his tune faster than Vic. number 1, he has a lot of personal experience with mental illness and i do think he'd have sympathy for Rob whether he showed it or not. number 2, in the end Andy and Robert always circled back together - the protected each other when their teacher died, when Jack was shot, obv Robert helped Andy out of the country in the end. i do think that while he might not believe him in the beginning, Andy would eventually see what all this is doing to Robert and switch sides just a little
EURGH we could've had it all!!!!! and here's my thing - John shouldn't have died either! i'm a Robron shipper through and through but it's not Johnron i'm interested in - it's John himself, and his relationship with Robert, and how his relationship with the entire village could have changed after he was exposed
can you imagine him living in the village after either not being charged or being found not guilty? of being put through the Robert Sugden school of literally no support system as a method of redemption? of Robert being stubborn initially but being able to read people like a book and seeing that John is really struggling? OMG IT WOULD BE FANTASTIC
(another one lol) the Sugdens are such a believable fucked up family and John really did fit right in - i also don't think he was the worst villain the show has ever had, not even Cain level tbh, so he was definitely redeemable - and probably would have been a more interesting long term villain-ish than Joe as well (dgmw i love Joe but John >)
In 1993 John Sugden is taken to live on Emmerdale Farm. In 2014 Aaron Dingle meets John Sugden and his sickly older brother who he takes care of and finds out there's more to them than meets the eye.

there are a couple of bigger/more active blogs on here that feel lowkey kinda hostile even when i agree with them and i don't know what to do with that
i've not posted on wednesdays or sundays for a week or so now so here we go!!!
this is from a little 2017 ons fic i've been working on... there's nothing explicitly referenced in this section tw wise, but i will put it under the cut just in case
Robert told the story a lot, in those first few weeks after people knew. he didnāt want to, of course he didnāt, he would rather lock it down tight and pretend it never happened, but he cheated on Aaron Dingle and thats something unforgivable, especially from someone like Robert Sugden.
so he told the story. it came easily, at first. because he thought about it. all the time.
all. the. time.
the guilt of it, he assumed. he had to think it was the guilt, and if it wasnt the guilt then it was some weird obsession and that was something just as justified to be guilty about. he was a cheat, he couldnt handle being obsessive too.
he let people talk, let them say what they needed to say, focus on the way he put it about, let himself ignore the pit in his stomach as they went.
the penny dropped a few weeks later, through no choice of his own, and it was Pete Barton of all people that seemed to do it. he was telling the story, knowing full well that the other Bartonās were living for this fresh hell of a downfall he was going through, when something he said caused Peteās face to drop.
āyou do know you can report her? right?ā
āwhat?ā he was about to respond when Finn popped his head through the door of the cafe, looking thoroughly flustered. Pete shot Robert an apologetic look and muttered something about speaking to him later.
you can report her.
not sure who's already posted soooooo apologies if i'm tagging you again ššš @dreamer-of-ships @robrondale @aelric @barnbert @capseycartwright @livflahertydingle @mellaithwen @sugdendeeznuts @jackiemerrick and anyone else who wants to add!!!
What happened to the Dingles? I think we can probably trace it to Cain playing a bigger part than Zak, honestly. I love Cain dearly (even with all this shit going on right now), but it's always felt like they very, very much had a different dynamic while Cain was out of the picture for a while.
hi anon! i'm so sorry - i had this as a draft for ages and kept forgetting to post ššš
this is a very good point and i think i agree with you, for sure. i think it comes down to Cain being such an antagonistic character throughout a lot of the 2000s that when he became the patriarch over Zak, the kind of chaotic energy that a family led by Zak had was negated by that heavier, angstier side of Cain (i do also love Cain, especially circa 2016 lmao)
but yeah i miss the days when they were properly chaotic and weird bring them backkkkkkk
Aaron will say it later, and no one will believe him, but he knew then, when he saw Mack, that something was terribly, terribly wrong.
āItās Robert, isnāt it?ā Aaron managed, a wobble to his voice he couldnāt control as he spoke.
āYeah, mate,ā Mackenzieās voice was soft, and sympathetic, in that way everyoneās voice tended to get when they were about to deliver bad news, and Aaron hated it. āItās Robert.ā

this fic is about suicide, rather explicitly. it deals with suicidal ideation, and self harm, and is about a suicide attempt and aaron's response to it as someone who's been suicidal. ok. those are your warnings!
a horribly belated wip wednesday from me because in all honesty i only managed to write something today for the first time since posting my fmi fic. and i had fomo for having not posted any wee snippets in what felt like ages
thanks for tagging me @dreamer-of-ships @livflahertydingle @barnbert @butteredsc0tch @bartonmatty @aaronsugdens @kellykadesperate @thatnervouswreck @jonathan-harks @illbeyourreasonwhy @maybemystcha @nerdyfangirl76 @jackiemerrick @robrondale!
āI missed you all the time, when you were inside,ā Aaron admitted, because these sort of things were always easier to admit in the quiet, the only sound in the room the steady rise and fall of Robertās breathing. āI donāt tell you that enough.ā
Robert tried his best to give Aaron a wry smile, but the expression was insincere, no joy reaching his boyfriendās eyes. All Aaron could see there was pain, and exhaustion - and god, how hadnāt he noticed how bad it was getting?
āYouāre only saying that because Iāve gone mental,ā Robert croaked, voice hoarse from not being used. He was curled onto his side, bundled in the fleece Aaron had brought from home, the thin hospital duvet not enough to keep him warm.
Aaron shook his head, twisting his fingers tightly around Robertās cold ones. āIām saying it because itās true,ā he murmured, pressing a kiss to Robertās shaking knuckles. āI miss you even when youāre right next to me. Youāve got to - Robert, you canāt go somewhere I canāt follow you. Okay? Not again.ā
not tagging anyone as itās definitively not wednesday anymore
Thanks to all these lovelies for the tags! @robrondale, @jackiemerrick, @nerdyfangirl76, @maybemystcha, @illbeyourreasonwhy, @stuckinanothertimezone, @thatnervouswreck, @aaronsugdens, @bartonmatty, @barnbert and @livflahertydingle!! Love you all long time š«¶
I wasn't going to post lol, but then I got FOMO so here you have it lmao. I have noooo self-control at the best of times.

"Pint please," he asks Robert, and has to refrain from their usual back-and-forth where he pours him his drink, and Aaron takes the opportunity to check him out.
He still tries doing it discreetly, though. He's a man of simple pleasures, and so he will not miss any opportunity to ogle the man he loves.
"Oh!" Victoria shouts. "I forgot you two know each other!"
"What's this?" Chas says, sidling up beside him, and placing a hand on his lower back.
Her nosy mithering is ever-present as always, it seems. Still, Aaron missed her, so he can't hold back the small smile that threatens his lips.
"These two," says Vic, pointing between Robert and Aaron. "Apparently their paths crossed when they were both in London."
Chas looks between them, her eyes curious, but slightly concerned.
"You know Robert Flaming Sugden?"
"I do indeed," Aaron hums. "Any more questions, or are you gonna let me get bladdered?"

Serena Sugden appearing later this month... by my calculations the time Dryan started filming again would bring them back final week of June... i'm feeling good about this ladssssss
