Taron, I meant what I said last night. I can talk about your talent and beauty and professionalism all day, but what I am most impressed with and grateful for is who you are as a man. Your kindness, humor, accountability and heart really do radiate and it made my Larry Hall experience palatable and possible. I love getting to make you laugh. I loved getting to act with you. And I’m so glad we’re in each other’s lives. Your mother raised an absolute gentlemen. Dennis, you were always one of these writers that I thought “I probably won’t get to do their work because they’re classy and intelligent and brooding and high level”. What a wonderful surprise to get to say your words and see inside your creative mind. I didn’t know I’d get to become a friend of your beautiful family and be invited in, like I have. Thank you for the inspiration, the guidance and your friendship. To tell a story with you and Taron was such a joy and the awards recognition is reflective of our triumvirate and the creative people who surrounded us on the project. I love you guys a lot.

Why Are Marvel and DC So Islamophobic?

SPOILERS EVERYWHERE IN THIS POST (for Arrow, Batman v Superman, Iron Man 3, Daredevil Season 2, Supergirl)

Like, seriously. What is up with that?

I remember watching Arrow a while back and cringing when they introduced Ra’s Al Ghul. Oh boy, I thought. Here we go. Just what we need, another allegory for the U.S. “war on terror.” 

Ra’s Al Ghul is coded as Muslim. The CW show doesn’t try to make a secret out of it. A member of the League of Assassins recites the Shahadah - THE MUSLIM DECLARATION OF FAITH - before committing suicide. Many non-Muslims would just hear it as Arabic, but because Islam is RACIALIZED, western audiences are conditioned to link the Arabic language with Islam and Muslims.

Furthermore, as Laurel Brown writes, “Beyond the basics of the affront to Islam exhibited by the evil killer, there is the fact that Western audiences — particularly those in the United States — are trained to expect a Muslim to be a killer.”

If you say "never again" but consciously choose to ignore what's happening to the Uyghurs in China then you've missed the point.

If you say "never again" but turn a blind eye to the genocide, ethnic cleansing, concentration camps, rape, stolen children, torture, destruction of mosques, harvesting of skin and organs from living detainees, and religious persecution happening in front of your eyes to the Muslims in China - then don't bother saying it at all.
