Surprise!  Sally and I are back and starting to record new episodes of our EEnE rewatch podcast.  Danny Antonucci happened to notice it the other week coincidentally, so better strike while the iron's hot, lol!

We don't have a set release schedule yet, it's currently a "do 'em when we can" type of thing, but I'm currently editing ep 2, so we've got a little more momentum this time.

SuperED on Patreon... Friday, June 25!

In case you didn't know, I used to make EEnE animations! Between ages 13-19, Ed, Edd n Eddy characters lip syncing to songs/plays/movies was my main artistic mode of expression, as well as the main reason anyone knew me online. More recently, I've been starting production on animating new original cartoons, which will eventually be on my Youtube and stuff.

BUT tomorrow, exclusively on Patreon, I'm posting a special surprise from my past that I thought I should tell you guys about! I'm not sure how far I want to spread word...

Does anyone remember my fabled old project titled SuperED? It was something I animated between 2009-2012 when I was finishing high school and going through college, but I never finished or released it because it had many file-loss issues.

5 or 6 years ago, I did a big background art dump from it right here! Here's some other old SuperEd lore. Since those days, I eventually did find a second copy of part 9 that was not missing the storyboard art!

WELL, a few weeks ago, I was recovering from a medical procedure and revisited SuperEd. Miraculously, the first 10-minute-part was finally working for me! Now, I have succeeded in recovering the full project, and a full-length video of the SuperEd animatic is complete.  It's surreal for me to finally be able to see the first part for the first time in nearly a decade, let alone all 9 parts running together without having to start the next part myself.

I loved seeing it all again so much that I decided to finally release the unfinished 90 minute animatic on Patreon... Friday, June 25 at 9am EST (so basically in a few hours). I have also gathered some behind-the-scenes content that I've found from back when I originally made it, which will be posted on there a few hours later. I might eventually record a commentary if I can find time, because this thing's filled with obscure easter eggs.

I totally understand if you only donate to view this and do not intend to stick around, that's fine! I only ask that everyone please respect that I'd like to keep this private. Hey just wanted to shoot you a message because I spent hours last night looking for an old flash animation I usedwatching a bunch back when I was in middle school on NewGrounds because I wanted to watch it again before Flash died. This video being your "Don't Try This At Home" video. I'm happy to see you are still animating! I had no idea you are also the person who made all those SU videos, you've come a long way! Anyway, just wanted to say thanks for the memories and keep up the good work!

That really means so much.  I’ve been kind of depressed this week because, with the end of Flash looming over us, I’ve been desperately recording all my old animation off deviantART (even hidden ones like my Newgrounds stuff).  Essentially watching my entire artistic/young adult development as fast as possible really took me out of my body and had me questioning if any of it was ever actually worth uploading, so I really appreciate any time I hear someone was nostalgic for my work.  It always restores my energy because I’m so used to receiving random hate, so thank you again!  Perfect timing! :)

It also means a lot to me to hear it about DTTAH specifically, cuz I usually just get nods for the EEnE videos but DTTAH was my baby all throughout high school.  I did a bunch of followup DTTAH cartoons on deviantART and I’ll always feel bad that I was too nervous about my sound quality to bring those to Newgrounds, since that seems to be where the real DTTAH fandom was, lol.  I’ve screen-recorded almost all of them I think, maybe I could do a “museum” series on Youtube someday to rerelease my old cartoons and give some context on the quality and such.

PARKER PLAYS Season 2 ( Summer 2018 )

Pics 1-3: Short 1 “Space Team” is a cartoon that reimagines Live-Action Parker, Shubble and Jimmy playing a mobile game, Space Team, as their caricatures running a fast food space kitchen filled with demanding/confusing screens (and audio from their gameplay is repurposed for the dialogue). It was the first cartoon from season 2′s higher budget and new month-long production time, and I think those improvements show in the design work. The audio I was given for this cartoon was very confusing and didn’t make sense until I finally saw it edited into the live action story on TV, lmao.  It turned out it was presented to the actors as a special prize for beating a game in the episode, which kind of explained the random premise.

Pics 4-10:  Short 2 “First Job” involves Parker reminiscing about his first job at a Halloween store, where I provide an extended animated flashback.  This one was interesting to create, because I had no script, just his improvised audio filled with random sound effects and I had to just guesstimate what visuals in his story I could match to the sound effects.  I ended up having a lot of fun with the design of this one, though, there’s a lot of characters and interesting angles.

This season was significantly shorter than the first season, but these shorts were both a bit longer and more prominent than the ones from season 1.  There was also a third Cold Opening short that introduced one of season 2′s 6 episodes, but I already posted the design for that version of Parker.  

This season’s shorts were very different from season 1′s 3 completely random cartoon segments (a fake theme park ad with generic extra characters, a fake TV show AU where Parker’s a giant with extas, and those unaired rougher-quality shorts with him and his friends)-- season 2′s shorts were more focused on Parker, his friends, and the comedy between them. This finally allowed me to figure out what I would call the “Parker House Style.”  Parker and his friends tend to be relatively close to my main “Hoop-a-Joop” art style, making them easy to get wild expressions from. The side characters tend to be more like the 90s-influenced Hanna-Barbera/Cartoon Network style used for the extras in season 1′s shorts.  The main idea is that hopefully some of these extras can be reusable, and that they may work well enough to assume a stock role in a script.  Everyone’s a little offbeat but interesting to look at... I hope!?

PARKER PLAYS Season 1 ( Summer 2017 )

Pics 1-3: Short 1 “Park Parker” was a greenscreen-heavy fake advertisement where I animated the world behind Parker, including several terrified cartoon children Parker sends to his squid-infested theme park.  It has my favorite art of the first season, probably most influenced by 90s Hanna-Barbera.  My main intention with these one-off characters was to make their style distinct from any of the styles I work in more commonly.  Working in short 2 week production times, I rarely got any guidance and had to make my best judgments as quickly as possible while also working a regular job during the day.  It was an animation rampage, so to avoid stagnation I liked to aim for different aesthetics each short.

Pics 4-7:  Short 2 “Giant Cop” is about a fake TV show where Parker is reimagined as a gigantic police officer who accidentally crushes his one-week-from-retirement partner Ramirez.  This was the first appearance of the Parker cartoon character in the series proper (i.e. outside of the pilot) so it was interesting to be reimagining his scale and age and career, playing around with different color schemes and settings, right off the bat.  This short ended up being really focused on the background work to play with the illusion of Parker’s height, but I had fun filling out the city with all these one-off characters for the show within the show.

Pics 8-10:  Short 3 was never aired.  Based on the information they sent me, it was meant to be part of the episode “Speedrunners,” but it was produced in under a week, even less time than a usual Parker cartoon, and lower budget as well.  So I intuited that it may not be considered essential in a loaded season, and took the opportunity to experiment with a more monochromatic style.

A screenshot from this short was held up by Parker in a season 2 episode to introduce one of the new shorts, however, so that was a cute nod to include it in some way.  I was also originally told the pilot’s cartoon short would’ve been included in season 1, so between that and the number of scenes in episode descriptions that weren’t in their episodes, it seems like there may have been a number of deleted scenes.

Finally making some more posts about the TV show I did character designs, animation and backgrounds for on DisneyXD, Parker Plays!  

It’s a live action show aimed at gamers, with a lot of skit comedy.  Occasionally Parker will slip away into 1-2 minute cartoon fantasy sequences.  Most of the art above is from the second season, but the designs at the bottom are from a short I was given at the last second with like 2 days to design, board and animate the whole thing.  I was having trouble getting started so Erica sketched that original uncolored Parker caricature on the left and then I had a lot of fun developing his design and finding his kinds of expressions.  

Although animation is not an every-episode thing, about 90% of the animation in the entire show was done by me, Kevin Lordi!  There was at least one other animator replicating my style at some point in season 1, and sometimes the studio’s in-house staff does some FX animation for a live action segment, but other than that, as far as I know I am the series’ main animator.

In the second season, I was the ONLY animator on the show and they even added a clip of mine to the theme song.  They also used one of my clips prominently in the advertising for season 2.  DisneyXD put my two main shorts from the season up on their Youtube.

As you can see from the designs above, Parker Cartoons tend to feature a wide array of extras, so I will also make separate posts for some more of my favorite extra designs from the show.
