Life Update - Late Post?
Well here I am, back! I know I know holy crap she is back. And I know the next question...WHERE THE HELL HAVE YOU BEEN??!!
Well that’s an interesting question. I thought I was going to do a video but then thought maybe not. I wrestled with whether or not I needed to explain at all. I know a lot of online people say there is no reason to explain. While others say they feel obligated to explain.
For me, I don’t feel obligated, but I do feel like I owe you all something. What that something is I am not sure but, I am going to explain as best I can without giving too much detail. As it is my personal life.
Since I last posted or uploaded a video, I have had quite a bit happen in my life. One of which was my surprise pregnancy! After 7 years of nothing, I found out I was pregnant. Pregnant with a little girl! I was supposed to be due January 22, 2016. But my little girl, being just like her mother, decided she was coming 10 days early....AT HOME! That is a story for another post though. I named her Rylee. And she is the best thing in my life.
Rylee 2 Years
Shortly after her birth, her father and I ended our relationship...not on good terms, might I add, but I won’t go into major details about the reasons. This left me as a single mom. Which for me is not too bad.
I ended up getting together with someone else and we moved into a larger house and we renovated the basement into an apartment for my mom so she could be closer to me and the new baby. Sadly, that relationship did not pan out as planned. And he moved out. Mom, Rylee and I rebuilt our lives and had things going well.
I was getting back to filming and back to crochet and art, when October 14, 2017 happened. The worst day of all our lives to date. Our home burned down. Thankfully, mom, Rylee and I all made it out safely. Sadly we lost everything we owned and the family dog Allie, my guinea pig and rat to the fire. (I will make a full post about the fire at a later date). Somehow, my mom’s cat Spirit and my cat Jazzy survived.
RIP Allie
Spirit
Jazzy
Since then, we have found a new apartment, and have been very slowly trying to rebuild our lives and replace items lost.
I know someone will ask, yes there is a GoFundMe set up if you want to donate. I will include a link or button somewhere on the post. https://www.gofundme.com/lidstone-family-fund
So, that explains where I have been and why I have been gone for so long. It has been a crazy couple of years and only now does there seem to be a light at the end of the tunnel.
I want to take a moment to thank all of you who have stuck around and stuck with me over the years, through thick and thin. Without all of you I would not be where I am today in the online journey. Also I would like to apologize for all the missed time.
But that being said, good things are coming. Big exciting things are coming. New posts, videos and more are also coming.
Don’t forget to follow my social media so you don’t miss any updates. I have missed you all and can’t wait for the future to get moving.

When I think I of yarn, I try to think of what kind of yarn I want to work with. I want to work with a yarn that is colorful, and fun. Something that when I look at it, it fills me with excitement and makes my muse scream out creativity!
There are other things that it looks at too. Is it acrylic, wool, mixed fiber, recycled? Is it sock weight, medium weight, or bulky? Sometimes I’ll ask myself what project I have in mind or am I just planning on designing with it? I’ll be honest, sometimes I just want it stash. LOL, you get it!
Price is also something to think about, as well as finding the price you are willing to spend will depend on the project you are going to be making with it. If you are wanting to make a nice warm sweater for a family member, you may want to invest in a nice wool, but if you are making toys for your kids or pets, you may be better off with some less expensive acrylic. Lots of stuff to consider.
I bet you think that that’s good to stop thinking right? Well, that is true and false, and a personal decision.
For me, I like to get my yarn from many companies. Everyone has a favorite yarn and/or company. For a long time, I have loved Vanna’s Choice from Lion Brand, but I also have a love for Knit Picks. Both companies are well known and have beautiful yarn, hooks, and needles. Their prices are good and both have wonderful customer service.
Though I love both companies and have for many years, I recently discovered a little company with a beautiful product…
CLick on image to head to Darn Good Yarn
Darn Good Yarn was founded in 2008 by Nicole. She is an extremely creative person who has a passion for helping others. Which helped her create the yarn company that helps others. All the yarn is made by hand, from ripped sari scraps, which are sewn together by people in India and Nepal. This gives people steady and reliable work, which in turn provides a sustainable income.
This little yarn company provides not only better and safer jobs to those who need them, but also prevents sari scraps from ending up in landfills and the oceans. Which in my eyes is a pretty awesome thing!
DGY is also partnered with Schenectady ARC, which is a non-profit, dedicated to providing people with disabilities, with gainful employment. Though they are a very small business, they are a making a big difference in the world. Saving well over a million pounds of waste one skein at a time.
They have wonderful people in their head office in all areas. Each one has a special skill they offer up. I have had the amazing opportunity to speak and work with 2 such ladies. Keri who is their Marketing Director and Katie their Fiber Arts Specialist. Both are amazing, easy to work with, and extremely devoted to Nicole's Dream.
I think I should get to talking about the really good stuff. The YARN!
I have had the opportunity to work this some of their yarn and I LOVE IT!
If you were not aware yet. I Recently worked with DGY on a design for their yarn of the month which went out on July 1. It was Silk Retreat fingering weight silk yarn. And it was beautiful to work with. Very easy to work with and such pretty colors. I designed a beautiful summer shawlette with it which they included in their monthly subscription kit for the yarn.

I was also sent a yarn I fell in love with on their site. “Sparkle Collection Lace Weight Silk in Watercolors.” It is the most beautiful yarn I have ever seen! It is a little finicky getting it from hank to cake or ball, but it is well worth it. This yarn is easy to work with and so pretty when crocheted or knit.

They offer so many yarn options, colors and much more. Patterns, materials clothing, yarn bowls (Which I want one so bad btw. lol)
Their customer service is fantastic and their “Start With Love” guarantee is awesome, with excellent communication with their customers on every detail of their order as well as returns and exchanges with no hassle.
To say DGY is an Awesome company would be an understatement. They have everything and more that you would ever want in a yarn company.
That makes them DARN GOOD!
I hope you enjoyed this read. Be sure to check out all the links and when you head over to DGY be sure to let them know who sent you!
